According to the Constitution, it is  the  PSC. Ogunbiyi as the second in Command, will be in-charge until a new Chairman is appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Imo: A Speaker’s Last “Buga Dance”

0
Emeka Nduka and New Imo State House of Assembly Complex

By Charles Igbo

On Tuesday, September 13, Kennedy Ibeh, until Monday, September 19, the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly was at his excited best.

President Muhammadu Buhari had visited Imo State on a one-day working visit during which he commissioned three flagship projects.

One of the projects was the completely refurbished Imo House of Assembly edifice. Until the refurbishment by the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, it was an eye-sore, a pig sty, almost, with leaking roofs and worse.

The commissioning was, therefore, a big deal. The Speaker, Ibeh, was excited. He was happy, so happy that when Mr President departed for Abuja, he and some of his colleagues, including the Deputy Speaker, Amara Chyna- Iwuanyanwu, a cat with nine lives,  converged in his office, and wined boogied-down, and made merry. They danced to the hugely popular Kizz Daniel’s “Buga.”

And, why not? Ibeh has moved into a new office fit for his office – a Speaker’s office. Spacious. Beautifully furnished. Relaxing. Inviting.

But on Monday, the 19th, lbeh’s world came crashing, literally. He resigned as the Speaker of the House.

Given the benefit of hindsight, that Buga dance was a send-off for him. It was his last Buga as the Honourable Speaker of the House. Perhaps, a couple of those who “Bugad” with him knew that his days were numbered. Perhaps, he himself knew that the notorious banana peel on the floor of the Imo House of Assembly was right under his feet, already.

Imo State House of Assembly has set a very notorious record of an Assembly where its Speakers are changed like one changes one’s underwear. It is like turn by turn, comparable only to the office of the Senate President when it was zoned to the South-east during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Every State in the South-east, embarrassingly had a taste of the office. Evans Enwerem. Adolphus Wabara. Chuba Okadigbo. Pius Anyim. Ken Nnamani.

The Imo State House of Assembly in on its fourth Speaker since 2020, the year Uzodinma became the Governor.

The Speaker of the House then was Chidi Collins. Just when the Uzodinma Government had stabilized and most members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Assembly, including Collins, dumped it for the All Progressives Congress, APC, Collins was given the boot by his colleagues. He was quickly replaced by Paul Emeziem. He too was soon to be given the boot after an unsuccessful attempt to impeach his Deputy, Iwuanyanwu.

A powerful Speaker, or so Emeziem thought he was, he suspended, in one fell swoop, six members of the Assembly, including Ibeh. His waterloo was in, according to reports, attempting to impeach Iwuanyanwu, a man after the Governor’s heart.

So, Emeziem was quickly impeached after Iwuanyanwu survived, and the suspension of the six members was lifted.

That was when Ibeh created his own record.

Straight from suspension, Ibeh became the Speaker. It was seen to be in fulfillment of a prophecy by one Pastor/Prophet that Ibeh would, one day, become the Speaker. It is not, now,  known if he also told Ibeh that he would lose the high profile office when he least expected.

Nobody knows exactly what happened. Why Ibeh resigned. While some people say he was forced to resign, a release signed by his Media Aide debunked it. In the release titled: Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Chidozie   Ibeh Resigns As Speaker Imo House of Assembly,  the Aide, Ifeanyi Onyekachi wrote: “It is with due sense of responsibility that we announce the resignation of Rt. Hon. Barr. Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, as the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly.

“Within his short period as the Speaker, IMHA, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, redefined Legislative process, restored the dignity of the legislature and placed the Imo State House of Assembly, on a high pedestal.

“He, therefore, wishes to reiterate his commitment to the 3-R Government of His Excellency, Gov. Hope Uzodinma, and to pledge his loyalty and support to the Governor, the good people of Obowo State Constituency and Imo State.

“Thank you and God bless you all.”

Many people, not conversant with the  intrigues, the dog eat dog attitude, the back- stabbings associated with politics, were shocked at Ibeh’s resignation. He was very loyal to the Governor and was seen as doing his biddings. He spoke the language of the Governor, and was always full of praises for him. Under Ibeh two members of the Assembly were suspended indefinitely.

Could his trouble have come  from his colleagues? A few weeks ago, the story was rife that his colleagues were up in arms to impeach him because he allegedly spoke arrogantly to them. That was doused.

So, what happened?

One speculation has it that he was not influential in the politics of his area. The allegation is that a female Commissioner from his area and one House of Representatives member are in charge and have the ears of the Governor when it came to appointments. He never had any hand in any appointments, not even a Councillor, it is alleged. He, therefore, resigned out of frustration, it was further alleged. Another speculation said that he has   been used and dumped. It did not explain how.

Ibeh’s replacement is also a Lawyer – Anthony Emeka Nduka. Until his elevation,he was the Deputy Majority Leader in the House. He hails from Umuezeala, Umuoma, Nzerem, Ehime Mbano. He represents the Ehime Mbano State Constituency in the Imo House of Assembly.

Nduka was on the same day he was elected, received by Governor Uzodinma at the Government House. He is the fourth Speaker of the Assembly the Governor would receive since his administration. Will the banana peel arrive soon, making way for the fifth Speaker? Time will tell.

Anambra: One Year After Youthful LP Governorship Candidate Was Abducted, Whereabouts Remain Unknown

0
Obiora Agbasimalo

By Charles Igbo

It is a mystery. None like it in the South-east yet. It is one year since Mr Obiora Agbasimalo was abducted, and till date, nobody has seen him.

Until his abduction, he was the Anambra State Governorship candidate for the Labour Party. He was on a campaign trail at Azhia, in Ihiala Local Government Area, when he was abducted by gunmen. He has since disappeared into thin air.

Nobody knows the group which kidnapped him. And why? Was it political? Was it out of envy and jealousy because he was well off? But since that September 18, 2021, nothing has been heard from him, or of him. No ransom has been demanded. Just nothing.

The questions his family and friends are asking are: What happened to him? Who kidnapped him? Is he dead or alive? If dead, why has nobody seen his body? If not dead, why have his abductors not made any contacts?

A few months ago, his mother made an emotional, passionate appeal to his abductors to please release him in the name of God, and because of her. She said the only request she is making of everybody is to see his son as his abduction and the loud silence were killing her. “He is the one who look after me”, she lamented.

Nothing much has been heard from his Party, LP.  The Party has been silent, and curiously, no statement  has been forthcoming from Security Agencies in the State.

Dr Chidi Odinkalu, a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission is agitated by the silence from both the leaderships of the LP and the Security Agencies.

On Sunday, September 18, he took to his Twitter handle and wrote: “#OnThisDay in 2021, Obiora Agbasimalo, candidate of #LabourParty @NgLabour in #AnambraDecides2021, was abducted on his way to what was supposed to be a campaign rally. He has disappeared since then & both the leadership of @NgLabour & its supporters have forgotten abt him.”

On December 12, 2021, a Coalition of Concerned Civil Society Organisation, at a Press Conference, urged the Federal Government and Security Agencies to find Agbasimalo. The Coalition gave them a seven-day deadline to find him or face a civil disobedience.

Phil Roberts who spoke on the Coalition’s behalf, expressed the concern of Agbasimalo’s family and friends. “Whether he us dead or alive, no one knows, and all these questions are begging for answers:

“Who kidnapped Obiora Agbasimalo and how was he kidnapped? Already, family and friends are seeking for Obiora’s safety and his eventual release by his captors. We are, as a matter of urgency, by this Press Conference, respectfully urging Mr President to direct the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services, DSS, and other relevant Security Agencies to get to the root of this matter in the interest of the peace and stability of not just the South-east region, but the Nation at large.”

Nothing has happened since then. Mr Agbasimalo remains missing.

And his family remains heartbroken, not knowing what to believe.

Abductions: Rivers LGA Park Chairman Bans Vehicles After 6.00pm; 40 Worshippers Kidnapped In Kaduna

0

By Charles Igbo

Helpless and frustrated over the unprecedented abductions in his domain, a Local Government Park Chairman in Rivers State has directed both private and commercial vehicles not to be on a particular road after 6.00pm.

The concerned road is the Ogbakiri/Kalahari road.

In an alert, he drew the attention of motorists to the weekly abductions on the road, and warned them never to leave the Choba/Kalabari Parks as soon as it is 6.00pm.

They were asked to obey the instruction until the State Government finds a solution to the menace of the hoodlums.

Titled ATTENTION, ATTENTION, ATTENTION, it reads:

“You are all advised against coming home as soon as it’s 6.00pm.

“The Ogbakiri/Kalabari road is now a kidnapping zone on weekly basis.

“The Local Government Park Chairman has directed all commercial vehicles not to leave the Choba/Kalabari Parks after 6.00pm.

“Private vehicle owners are also advised to obey the instruction, for now, until the Government takes positive security action to restore law and order in the area.”

In another very sad  development,  40 Worshippers were, last weekend, Kidnapped in Southern Kaduna.

According to the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, the 40 Worshippers include members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Movement. The Union said they were abducted in Bayan Kasuwa Quarters of Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna, the National President of the Union, Dr Awemi Maisamari, said the bandits have reached out the families of the victims, and are asking for N200m in ransom money. The Union said the abductions took place between September 12 and 13, a few kilometers from Kaduna Metropolis.

Said Dr Maisamari: “There is still no breathing space for Communities in the Southern Kaduna. Terrorists, jihadists, bandits and armed herdsmen have continued to plunder and wreck Communities in the Southern Part of the State.

“The latest are the mass abductions that took place on September 12 and 13, 2022, at Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru LGA of Southern Kaduna.

“Kasumi Magani is about 20 km South of Kaduna Metropolis on the Kaduna-Kafanchan Express road and hosts the biggest weekly market in Kaduna State.

“On the first day, September 12, six people were abducted in a night raid by the terrorists at Ungwan Fada part of the town.

“With no measures put in place to forestall reoccurrence, the following day, September 13, the terrorists stormed the Cherubim and Seraphim Church during a night vigil program at the Bayan Kasuwa Quarters of Kasuwan Magani town at around midnight.

“They succeeded in carting away more than 60 people from the Church and neighboring houses. However, they were not able to take all of them away because some were very little children, too aged, or had health challenges.

“While retreating with their captors to their camps, they attacked Janwuriya village, few kilometers from Kasuwan Magani, and abducted two more persons.

“As at now, 45 people have so far been confirmed abducted.

“Yesterday, however, September 18, 2022, the abductors made contacts with some people in the town, via phone calls and claimed that only 40 persons were held by them.

“They demanded for a ransom of N200m, but negotiation is still ongoing. We do not know the identity or the fate of the five missing persons yet.”

Kidnapping of innocent citizens has become a big business in Nigeria. The abductors often get away with it and make hundreds of millions of Naira monthly.

The Government, at all levels are helpless.

For the records, Kaduna hosts the highest number of Military facilities in Nigeria, including the elite Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA.

FBN Holdings Passes Fitch’s Test On Corporate Governance, Capitalisation

0

The Nnamdi Okonkwo-led First Bank Holdings, FBNH has taken bold steps to address the corporate governance problems and insider abuse raised against the first-generation bank last year by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The global rating firm, Fitch Ratings disclosed this in its report released last weekend. The agency which upgraded FBNH and its subsidiary, First Bank Limited, FBNL to ‘B’ from ‘B-‘ said the Holder has significantly tackled the issue of capitalization and disposed of all toxic credit left by the previous management.

Fitch has therefore assigned stable outlooks on FBNH and FBNL aside from upgrading their viability ratings, VR to ‘b’ from ‘b-‘.

Financial analysts insist that the ratings will further boost stakeholders’ confidence in the bank as its consolidates on the gains it has recorded in the last few months as one of the nation’s top three banks.

The rating agency said in a statement that the upgrade of the long-term IDRs followed that of the VRs, indicating that the management of the financial giant has significantly resolved corporate governance issues and that bold steps have been taken to generate more capital.

The renowned rating firm said in the statement, “Fitch has withdrawn FBNH’s and FBN’s Support Ratings and Support Rating Floors as they are no longer relevant to the agency’s coverage following the publication of its updated Bank Rating Criteria on November 12, 2021.

“In line with the updated criteria, we have assigned Government Support Ratings (GSR) of ‘no support’ (ns) to both issuers.

“FBNH is a non-operating bank holding company. Its VR is equalised with the group VR, derived from the consolidated risk assessment of the group, due to the absence of double leverage and high fungibility of capital and liquidity.

“According to management, the two related-party exposures highlighted by the CBN, which included equity and credit exposures to two companies of whom FBNH’s previous chairman was also chairman, have largely been disposed of and repaid.

“Fitch understands from management that FBNH and FBN have not been subject to penalties in relation to irregularities raised by the CBN in April 2021 and no further irregularities have been raised.

“FBN is the third-largest bank in Nigeria, representing 11 percent of domestic banking-system assets at end-2021. A strong franchise supports a stable funding profile and a low cost of funding.

“Revenue diversification is strong, with non-interest income representing 48 percent of operating income in 2021,” Fitch said.

Recall that the former management board of the bank was sacked by the apex bank in April 2021 after serious allegations of insider abuse and huge loan exposures allegation were raised against some of its members.

Security in Anambra State: Oshiomhole Lied Shamelessly – Peter Obi

0
Adams Oshiomhole and Peter Obi

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has said that the former Governor of Edo State, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, lied about security in Anambra State during his tenure.

Speaking at the Youth Conference of APC, a party he was their past Chairman, Oshiomhole said it was Obi’s successor that started demolishing houses of kidnappers in Anambra State.  Oshiomhole also said that it was Obi that brought the Bakassi boys into the State.

Replying him through his Media Adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, Obi stated that the records were clear over who did what on security in Anambra State. Citing mischief and bias as Oshimhole’s motivation, Obienyem said: “It is a pity that a former Governor, who ought to be informed, would credit the bringing into the State of Bakassi boys to Mr. Peter Obi when elementary enquiry would have shown any genuine seeker that it was under  Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, which was even before Sen. Chris Ngige, that Bakassi people operated in Anambra State.”

Obienyem said that Obi had always said on countless fora that as a private citizen, that it was the witnessing of the killing of Prophet Eddy of Nawgu by Bakassi people without compunction and the arbitrament  of the law   that contributed to his entrance into politics – to restore sanity, humanness, decency and sanity to the society.

On the claim that it was after Obi that the demolition of kidnappers’ houses started, Obienyem said it was a childish, condemnable and shameless lie. In his words: “Obi was actually the person that started the demolition of buildings associated with kidnapping in Nigeria, which other Governors started to emulate. Though evidence abounds,  as when various newspapers reported the demolition of houses by Obi as in: https://thenationonlineng.net/obi-demolishes-kidnap-suspects-homes/amp/; https://newsexpressngr.com/news/472-Breaking-News-Obi-keeps-promise-demolishes-houses-of-king-of-kidnappers ; https://www.nairaland.com/1084091/anambra-demolishes-houses-kidnap-robbery,   but we will refer Oshiomhole and his likes to the statement by principal actors during those fevered times.”

Thereafter, Obienyem provided copious statements from former Commissioners of Police in Anambra State on the matter. Starting with former Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Bello Amusu, he quoted his interview and also provided a link to it (https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2017/09/29/bello-the-security-anambra-is-enjoying-today-was-as-a-result-of-the-efforts-of-peter-obi/) , on how Obi approached security:

“There were lots of innovations brought about by Mr. Peter Obi at the police headquarters at his expense. He provided money, we put up structures and the state headquarters was given a face lift. He financed state headquarters, fenced it, provided infrastructure, procured communications vehicles, armoured cars, and provided weekly allowances of all officers and men of Anambra State Police Command. So, the morale was very high. There were constant meetings with other services, the military and other para-military services in the State. We co-opted the vigilante. We were working together because we used the vigilante very well in Anambra State. I disabused the minds of my officers who countered the formation of vigilante.  I made them understand that they have not taken over our duty. There must be synergy and that was why I often invited them for meetings, to integrate them into what we were doing.”

On other issues, including the demolition of kidnappers houses,  Bello continued: “Obi’s administration provided over 600 patrol vehicles to various security agencies in the state including Immigration, NDLEA, FRSC, Nigerian Prisons etc. He fenced some police formations and fenced the Army Barracks, he worked for the siting of Naval Outpost in Odekpe and provided over 250 vehicles for vigilance groups in markets and communities. He started the demolition of property owned by kidnappers and his Chairmanship of South East Governors Forum for years brought about the needed synergy between the Governors to chase away dreaded armed robbers from the South-East. He started Security Trust fund.”

Likewise, Obienyem also quoted the assertion of the Retired DIG, Philemon Leha on: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/10/obi-laid-foundation-security-enjoy-anambra-retired-dig-leha/ to counter what he called  “Oshiomhole ‘s shamlessness.” Leha had said:  “People who do not understand him to tag him a ‘miser’ because he does not throw public funds around like many other politicians but it is really his philosophy they fail to appreciate. From my observations as a trained policeman and interactions with him, Peter Obi has Anambra State at heart. He wanted to take the state to a greater height, which he did. In the process, he  endeavoured  to raise a team of men, women, and organizations with good intentions for the state.

“Indeed, he was highly instrumental to the success of my assignment of combating crime and criminality in Anambra State. Aside from his support for the security agencies, he promoted collective responsibility for security and initiated the demolition of properties belonging to or used by kidnappers to discourage their nefarious activities.”

Obienyem went further to also  corroborate  the foregoing with the assertion of retired AIG Usman .A. Gwari who was in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, Abia state on; https://www.pressreader. com/nigeria/thisday/.

Gwari said:  “When I came in, the first thing I did was to make sure that there was a very good synergy between the police and other security agencies. I initiated meeting with service commanders in my office; initially on a weekly basis before we later changed it to twice a week.

“And thanks to the former Governor who provided virtually all we needed to work with,  including all the logistics but not without his calculator close by. Obi was working in all institutions of Government simultaneously and became a reference point then and I was happy when Governor Willie Obiano came and continued from where Obi stopped because Obiano inherited all the institutions started by Obi. Obiano is consolidating on Obi’s foundations, because Obi was really an enigma and achieved in leaps and bounds.

“I can say yes without mincing words. Obi did very well because he helped us to reduce crime rate to the barest minimum, to the extent that the violent crime like armed robbery in banks were history, kidnappers in the state ran away. The issue of destruction of houses where criminals used to perpetuate crime in the state, started during Obi’s time but it was well publicised during Obiano’s tenure. Obi initiated it and sent an Executive bill to the House of Assembly for confiscating and demolition of property of kidnappers, I should think so because it was the magic needed to deter people from crime of kidnaping for ransom.”

Obienyem who was confident that the  verdict of the principal participants in the restoration of security to Anambra State were enough to buttress the truth, however, went further to enumerate other things Obi did on security to include purchase of Armoured Patrol Vehicles for security agencies in the state; being instrumental to the establishment of Naval Outpost at Odekpe, which he supported with N200 Million  million; fencing of Onitsha Barracks and  construction of its  internal roads;  provision for the first time, of over 250 patrol vehicles to towns and organisations in the state, among others.

Obienyem said that no amount of campaign of calumny would distract Nigerians from the peaceful movement to take back their country from the likes of Oshiomhole. Obienyem reminded Oshiomhole that the choice of Obi to lead the peaceful movement was based on his antecedents as a leader that could be trusted.

The choice of Obi, Obienyem said was informed by many factors.  “One of those factors Was his lone stand on the need to save money by the Federal Government for the rainy day, during which the group led by Oshiomhole insisted that it was already raining and that nothing  should be saved.

Obienyem recalls that it was that philosophy of saving that made Obi save over N75 billion for  Anambra  state amidst many tangible achievements, even when the likes of Oshimhole, without any tangible achievements left debts of over N800 billion for Edo State.

Insisting on Oshiomhole’s incompetence to speak about Obi, Obienyem asked the correlation between a Former Governor that  left over N70 billion debt to contractors and the one that left none; a man that owed  over 6 years arrears of pension and gratuities and the one that cleared outstanding arrears of over N35 billion and owed nothing before he left;  a man who paid himself N200 Million severance package with a house worth over N300 million and a man who received nothing; and a man whose moral example is inspiring versus a man who is evidently controlled by money.

State Police: Southern Governors’ Forum Welcomes Position Of 19 Northern Governors, Says Time Now For Action

By Ayodele Oni

The Southern Governors Forum has welcomed resolve of 19 Northern Governor and Traditional Rulers Council to use state police to check terrorism in the zone.

Chairman of Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong at the end of their meeting in Abuja revealed that the gathering reviewed the security situation in the North and other matters relating to its development.

According to him, the meeting also resolved to support further amendments of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in the bid to accommodate the establishment of State Police.

Governor Lalong affirmed that the Northern Governors and “Traditional rulers support the review and constitutional amendment to accommodate the establishment of State Police, with a view to effectively and efficiently address the security challenges in the Northern States.

Reacting to the position on Monday, chairman Southern Governors Forum and Governor of Ondo state, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu said the southern counterpart “received with great relief the news of the resolution of the 19 Northern State Governors and Northern Traditional Rulers Council to call for the immediate establishment of State Police to address the continued insecurity challenges in the country.”

According to him, “Their decision to support the call for a constitutional amendment to reflect the current realities could not have come at a better time than now when the confidence in the capacity of the Federal Government to secure the country appears shaky.

“All patriots must salute the courage of the 19 Northern Governors and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council for their stance at this crucial moment in the country.

“We, on our part at the Southern Governors forum have continued to reiterate the fact of the incongruity inherent in an arrangement which purports to be federal, nominally, but whose observances stand at variance with the best practices espoused by climes considered advanced and progressing, amenable to nuances and adaptations, which reflect and accommodate the yearnings for inclusion of the component units.

“We will continue to insist on the creation a of State Police as the only logical and pragmatic solution to the pervasive problem of insecurity in the land.

“In addition to this, we shall not fail to renew the call for the adoption of policies geared towards real devolution of powers to the federating units indeed. This is the surest path to peace and progress.”

Senator Olujinmi Absent At Ekiti PDP Stakeholders Meeting As Fayose Says He Belongs To Wike Camp, Will Vote For Atiku

PDP In Ado Ekiti

By Ayodele Oni

Another stakeholders meeting called by members of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in Ekiti state to address some lingering issues, which have caused division within the party was boycotted by prominent members including the senator representing Ekiti South, Biodun Olujinmi.

At the meeting, which was held in Ado Ekiti, former Governor Ayo Fayose told members that he belongs to a PDP faction being led by Rivers state Governor, Nyesome Wike but that he will work for the victory of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and other candidates to win the poll.

Only last weekend, members of the PDP in Ado local government passed a resolution that Joju, son of the former Governor who is a House of Representatives candidate should withdraw.

Fayose, who declared that the party will rise again in Nigeria and in particular, Ekiti State, said even though he will remain in the camp of the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, nothing will make him join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“A lot have been said, but like I have said many times, let me state it here expressly again that I will never join APC for whatever reason.

“In all the issues we are having as a party, no one has said that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is not our presidential candidate. No one has said too that Dr Ifeanyi Okowa is not our party’s vice presidential candidate.

“Also, we have Senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates here. Among them is my biological son, Joju and others who are my political sons and daughters. My interest is that all these candidates should win elections.

“Therefore, I am appealing to those who are angry to stop being angry. Those who are fighting should stop fighting. Let us face the 2023 elections together and win first. After that, we can resume the fight.”

Also speaking, the party’s candidate in the last governorship election, Hon Bisi Kolawole, thanked the party members for their support during the election. He said; “even though we lost, I am still grateful to the party for the opportunity and I wish to urge all the party stakeholders to close ranks so that together, we will rise again.”

The State Acting Chairman, Hon Lanre Omolase, who spoke on behalf of the State Working Committee members, affirmed their believe in Fayose’s leadership, saying that those plotting against him should sheath their sword in the interest of the party candidates who are standing for elections next year.

Some other leaders of the party that spoke expressed reservation on allowing Fayose to lead the presidential campaign in the state.

His name was among those that were appointed into the presidential campaign team last week.

They called on the presidential candidate of the party, not to have any dealing with the former Governor.

According to the PDP members, any attempt to allow Fayose lead the campaign committee in the state would be vehemently resisted.

The PDP members alleged that Fayose was never in support of the Atiku dream, alleging that his coming back to take up the campaign work was not out of genuine mind but for selfish reason.

The meeting had in attendance, a former Deputy Governor, Professor Olusola Kolapo, former lawmaker, Dr Samuel Omotosho, former Chairman Gbonyin Local Government, Sade Akinrinmola, former PDP State Chairman, Gboyega Oguntuase and others.

NDLEA Impound N193bn Worth Of Cocaine In Lagos

0

In what appears to be the biggest singular cocaine seizure in the history of Nigeria’s premier anti-narcotic agency, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have busted a major warehouse in a secluded estate in Ikorodu area of Lagos where 1.8tons (1,855 kilograms) of the illicit drug worth more than Two Hundred and Seventy Eight Million Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($278, 250,000) equivalent of about One Hundred and Ninety Four Billion, Seven Hundred and Seventy-Five Million (N194, 775,000,000) Naira in street value were seized.

At least, four drug barons including a Jamaican and the warehouse manager have been arrested in the well coordinated and intelligence led operation that lasted two days across different locations in Lagos state.

Kingpins of the cocaine cartel in custody include: Messrs Soji Jibril, 69, an indigene of Ibadan, Oyo state; Emmanuel Chukwu, 65, who hails from Ekwulobia, Anambra state; Wasiu Akinade, 53, from Ibadan, Oyo state; Sunday Oguntelure, 53, from Okitipupa, Ondo state and Kelvin Smith, 42, a native of Kingston, Jamaica. They are all members of an international drug syndicate that the Agency has been trailing since 2018.

Located at 6 Olukuola crescent, Solebo estate, Ikorodu, the warehouse was raided on Sunday 18th September, 2022, while the barons were picked from hotels and their hideouts in different parts of Lagos between Sunday night and Monday 19th September.

Preliminary investigation reveals the class A drugs were warehoused in the residential estate from where the cartel was trying to sell them to buyers in Europe, Asia and other parts of the world. They were stored in 10 travel bags and 13 drums.

While commending all the officers and men of the Agency involved in the extensive investigation including those of the American Drug Enforcement Administration, US-DEA, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) said the bust is a historical blow to the drug cartels and a strong warning that they’ll all go down if they fail to realise that the game has changed.
