Don’t Insult Osinbajo By Saying Tinubu Says He Has Forgiven Him – Osinbajo Support Movement

Yemi Osinbajo and Bola Tinubu

By Adesina Soyooye

The Support Movement of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has protested a statement credited to the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to the effect that he had forgiven Osinbajo.

Tinubu was quoted on Wednesday, as saying that he had forgiven Osinbajo and was prepared to work with everybody, including all those who aspired to the APC Presidential ticket with him.

Vice President Osinbajo was one of the aspirants beaten by Tinubu to the ticket. Since then, given the controversy that surrounded Osinbajo’s aspiration just because he was the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice during Tinubu’s tenure as Governor, many think that their relationship has been frosty because Osinbajo dared contest when Tinubu was also contesting.

Addressing a group which claimed to be part of Osinbajo Support Movement, a couple of days ago in Kano, and which asked him to forgive the VP, Tinubu  said he had forgiven Osinbajo.

But in reaction to that, the main Osinbajo Support Movement, OSM, said it found any talk of forgiveness both provocative and insulting, and will not take it lightly.

The OSM in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mr Liberty Badmus, asked what wrong Osinbajo did in order to be forgiven, and said the group which Tinubu addressed in Kano was speaking for itself and not for OSM.

Said the Statement:

“While the OSM welcomes the need for the APC flagbearer and other Presidential aspirants to come together, the group rejects the use of the word “forgiveness” and the implications attached to it.

“We note just like the flagbearer stated that both the VP and himself have met, at least, twice since after the primaries, any attempt to take a revisionist perspective by insinuating that an offence had been committed because a sitting VP decided to run for the Office of President is an unmitigated insult, completely unnecessary and such narratives ought to be totally discouraged.

“We recall a meeting of APC Elders in the Southwest ahead of the Primaries where the aspirants had resolved the issue concluding that all the aspirants had the right to contest. It is the spirit of that meeting that should be maintained not a derogatory effort which undercuts the solidarity required to take both the flagbearer and the aspirants including the VP forward.

“Everyone who supported the Vice President has the right to support whoever they wish after the primary, and Vice President Osinbajo has made it clear that people are free to support the party’s candidate but no one should, however, ridicule us and our Principal by going to beg for forgiveness.

“Nigeria runs a democratic democracy, and approves anyone within the legal ambit of our laws (constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the APC constitution) to seek to be elected for President and other elective offices as so desired.

“For the umpteenth time, we state that His Excellency, the Vice President has not committed any crime or offended anyone by seeking to serve his country in the capacity of President.

“We wish to call on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to face his campaign and ignore elements who want to benefit from him by regularly invoking Osinbajo.

“Osinbajo has since moved on and he is vigorously facing the task of nation building for which he was elected Vice President.”

Imo: Uzodimma, Ihedioha, Back To Trenches Over 2019 Governorship Election

0
Hope Uzodimma and Emeka Ihedioha

By Adesina Soyooye

The echoes of the 2019 Imo Governorship election have reverberated in the State since a couple of days ago.

The latest is the call by the Imo State Government on the National Assembly to probe how former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, was declared the winner of the election without meeting the constitutional requirements.

The relationship between Ihedioha and the incumbent Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has been very strained since the Supreme Court, on January 13, 2020, removed Ihedioha from office and declared Uzodinma the rightfully, duly elected Governor of the State. Ihedioha, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was only seven months in office as Governor, when he was succeeded by Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Since then, the politics of raw bitterness, raw anger and raw hatred has reigned in the State. The foot-soldiers of both high profile sons of the State have deployed all kinds of weapons either in the defence of their Principals, or to rubbish their Principal’s opponent. In doing this, nothing is out-of-bounds. There is no borderline.

The weapons include outright lies, brazen fabrications, fake news of the worst order, not excluding the supplanting of the cover of major newspapers with a fake cover, and the forging of Press Releases/ Press Statements, criminally signed off in the name of their opponent. In all these, they hardly care about the implications the lies and forgeries, fabrications and deliberate twisting of stories would have on the State and its people.

The ante of the fabrications and forgeries was raised recently over the fate of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB.

Kanu, a couple of weeks ago, was discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal, Abuja, of charges of terrorism. The Court lashed out at the Federal Government, over the manner Kanu was abducted from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021. Agreeing that it was an extraordinarily rendition, the Court said that the Federal Government broke all the laws in its action.

About 24 hours after the judgment, a forged Press Release, purportedly signed by Governor Uzodinma’s Media Adviser/Chief Press Secretary, Oguike Nwachuku, appeared, condemning the judgement of the Court of Appeal in releasing Kanu. The statement said Kanu’s release would spell danger for the South-east. The release was made in an Imo State letter-headed paper.

Not to be outdone, a couple of days later, a forged Press Release, attributed to Ihedioha made the rounds. It was to the effect that the former Governor was angry that Kanu got a reprieve from the Court of Appeal because of the danger it portents for the South-east.

Both Uzodinma and Ihedioha were said to have, allegedly, in the forged statements, protested to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN. As “jara”, an audio message, attributed to Ihedioha, where he, allegedly, threatened to keep making the State ungovernable for Uzodinma was released.

An angry Ihedioha denied knowledge, and/or ownership of both the Press statement and the released audio threat. And so did the Imo State Government deny the statement attributed to Uzodinma.

But in his denial which he personally signed, Ihedioha went a step further. He called on Security Agencies to investigate both the release attributed to him and the voice call. He put the blame smack at the foot of the Governor and his agents. And, in another interview, he attributed the insecurity in the South-east to the frustrations of the youths. He cited his case as an example. He said he clearly won an election and was unjustifiably removed from office.

The truth, however, is that neither Uzodinma nor Ihedioha made any statement on Kanu’s Court judgement. The statements were forged by their foot soldiers, especially, those who, from day one, when Uzodinma was declared winner, have been fabricating all kinds of stories. A couple of them have since “repented of such fabrications”, but they are still in the business of forgery.

But, again, not to be outdone   or intimidated by the constant refrain that Uzodinma stole Ihedioha’s mandate, the Imo State Government called on the National Assembly to institute a probe into how Ihedioha was initially declared the winner of the Governorship election in 2019. The Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, while speaking on a Radio Nigeria programme said Ihedioha’s declaration amounted to a criminal breach of the Constitution since he did not meet the constitutional requirements to be so declared winner.

The Government noted that although the Supreme Court had already declared Senator Hope Uzodimma as the rightful winner of the election, there was a need to probe the circumstances that led to Ihedioha’s declaration as Governor when he didn’t meet the Constitutional requirements.

Emelumba said there is an urgent need for Nigerians to know who flagrantly abused the Constitution and appropriate sanction meted  to them.

According to Emelumba, “Section 179 of the constitution is clear how a candidate can be declared a governor. Subsection A of the section states that if the candidate has the majority of lawful votes cast in the election while subsection B states that if the candidate has not less than one quarter of votes cast in each of at least two thirds of all the local government areas in the state”.

He said going by the Constitutional requirements, Ihedioha did not get one quarter of votes cast in 18 LGs which is two thirds of the 27 local government areas of the state. According to him,  INEC only declared him winner in 11 LGS, seven  short of the required 18 LGs, yet  he was declared winner of the election.

He alleged that both PDP, Ihedioha and others, connived and compromised the electoral process by flagrantly abusing the constitutional requirements.

“This is a  serious rape of the Constitution that should be investigated to know who the perpetrators are. It has never happened in this country before that someone who did not meet the Constitutional requirements is declared winner of a governorship election. It should not be swept under the carpet. ”

Asked if the Government was not satisfied with the Supreme Court judgement which restored Uzodimma’s victory, Emelumba said they were satisfied because justice had been served.

“But in a situation where a thief is caught and the stolen object recovered from him and he still goes about shouting that something was stolen from him, there is need for an appropriate sanction,” he said.

The Commissioner further alleged that PDP and Ihedioha also colluded with INEC Returning Officers to omit the results of 388 units where APC won convincingly so as to get “away with this electoral heist of the century”.

“From the onset, it was a deliberate plot to keep APC and Hope Uzodimma from the front to ensure they perpetrated that fraud. That is why you hear them shouting that he came fourth and has no claim, ” he noted.

Emelumba insisted that those who raped  and desecrated the Constitution including the beneficiaries ought to be brought to book.

Said he: “It is not enough that Ihedioha was removed from office. He and his collaborators need to be punished for the sacrilege they committed against the Constitution to serve as a deterrent to other would be felons, especially now that we are heading to 2023.”

He said the Government of Imo State believes that a thorough probe by the federal government into why Ihedioha was declared governor when he didn’t win the election will help sanitize the electoral process.”

Not a few people think that both men should put the 2019 Governorship election behind them, and plan ahead against who occupies the office as from January 14, 2024.

Passengers on an Airpeace Airline  Flight P47154, literally had their hearts in their hands when the aircraft experienced an engine trouble, and quickly made an emergency return to base.

The incident happened on Wednesday when the aircraft department the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos for the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.

A passenger on the flight who does not want his name mentioned, said there was panic, and  passengers were shaken and prayed no end until the aircraft returned safely to Lagos.

The Management of the Airline, in a statement, explained that the aircraft was already airborne when “the crew experienced a bleed in air challenge which prompted the flight to return  to Lagos.”

The statement, also, said that the aircraft retuned safely to Lagos, and passengers disembarked without any threat to their safety.

It apologised to the passengers who were panic-stricken and said: “We understand the passengers panic that results from situations from situations like this and we regret the inconveniences that followed.

“However, it is very important to state that air return is not an unsafe practice. It is, in fact, a recommended safety precautionary measure if the Pilots are not satisfied with any fault or event experience on a flight.”

Another passenger commended the crew for their professionalism all through the incident.

Any Medical Doctor Still Working In Nigerian Hospitals Should Be Praised –  Peter Obi

0
Peter Obi

Mr Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election has described the continued migration of Nigerian trained medical doctors to other countries as unacceptable.

Obi said this at the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Anambra Chapter’s Physicians’ Week and Scientific Conference held in Nnewi.

The theme of the Week is “Nigeria’s Healthcare Delivery System And The 2023 Democratic Transition: A Time To Change The Narrative”

Obi was represented by Prof. Chinyere  Okunna, the Commissioner in charge of Economic Planning/Budget, Office of MDGs and Development Partners during his administration as Governor of Anambra.

He said it took a high sense of  patriotism for any doctor to practice in Nigeria due to the unfriendly environment they were operating in.

“Any doctor who is still in Nigeria and is working is displaying great patriotism, this is because the working environment is unfriendly, equipment are not there, payment is not attractive and there is insecurity of doctors.

“Sadly, doctors, especially young ones, are leaving the country in their numbers,” he said.

Obi said during his administration in Anambra, there were challenges in the health sector including a period of industrial action by doctors, the problems were amicably resolved and the sector was in its optimal functional state at the time he left office.

He said industrial action was a legitimate instrument of bargaining but what matters was how the parties settle the differences and how the system came out of it.

He said his government collaborated effectively with the mission to build a virile health sector including building the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka from scratch.

“I am happy with the theme you have chosen for this Year’s Week celebration because the time to act is now, if you have good governance here, the health sector won’t be as poor as it is now, so it is good that we have resolved to enthrone good leadership come 2023.

“Strikes and picketing are legitimate ways workers can express their grievances or draw attention to areas of making the system get better, i don’t blame anybody for embarking on a strike.

“Yes there was a strike in Anambra but it was resolved, salaries and arrears were paid, doctors returned to work and the health sector was greatly improved. If there is any sector that we did brilliantly, it was the health sector

In his lecture, Dr Jide Onyekwelu, the Secretary General of NMA said the burden of brain drain on the country was huge as it was expensive to train a medical doctor.

Onyekwelu said while the UN standard recommended an average of one doctor to 500 patients, the ratio had dropped to about 1:5000 due to the declining number of doctors in the country.

He called on the Nigerian government to find out what made practicing outside the country more attractive to Nigerian doctors.

“Brain drain has devastated our medical sector. Nigerian doctors are well trained, that is why they are well sought after elsewhere but our government does not appreciate the quality of our doctors, so they leave to other countries.

“But they still travel to those countries where they are to see them, the same people they refused to make comfortable here,” he said

In her remark, Dr Jane Ezeonu, chairman of NMA in Anambra said the Week which was organised in conjunction with Nnewi Branch was to draw the attention of government to the dwindling medical human resource challenges and its impact on the sector in Nigeria

Ezeonu said the NMA would deliver free medical services to no fewer than 2,000 patients during the physicians’ week and hold its maiden zonal sports competition among the five zones in the state.

The award of Physician of the Year was presented to Dr Chukwudi Ihekweaba, a staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital by Prof. Gerald Uduigwe, Provost, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Medical College who chaired the occasion.

Flood Victims in Kogi State

By Ayodele Oni

It was a double tragedy for some victims of flood disaster in Kogi state as a storey building where they took refuge collapsed, killing five persons.

The building, which belongs to one Sunday Inajor at Ayah town in Ibaji local government area of Kogi state collapsed Wednesday night and left some unconscious with severe injuries.

The building was among many submerged by the devastating flood that ravaged many communities in Ibaji local government area recently.

It was learnt that following the flooding of bungalows in the affected communities, many residents, that could not be evacuated took refuge in few storey buildings available in their areas, for about a month.

It was gathered that the top floor of the building, which was occupied by many natives of Ayah collapsed Wednesday night leaving heavy casualties.

“A house collapsed at Ayah community, five people died instantly, many are unconscious while many were injured,” a native of Ibaji, Mr. Saturday Aromeh, raised the alarm Thursday morning on a WhatsApp Group – Ibaji Political Connect.

It was gathered that the injured persons are still within the scene of the incident as the flood could not allow rescue operation.

About 10 persons were earlier reported to have died on account of the flood disaster in Ibaji this year.

The resident lamented that both federal and state relief agencies have not shown up in Ibaji since the flood disaster over a month ago despite several alarms raised by different socio-cultural groups, non-governmental organizations and individuals.

“It is surprising that our appeals to various levels of government had fallen on deaf ears, while the people affected by the flood have been passing through hell and now to the extent of dying due to negligence by the agencies responsible for evacuating them.”

Another community, Anaocha in Ibaji local government lamented that People’s means of livelihood have been destroyed by the flooding.

The Ibaji Unity Forum, (IUF) an umbrella socio-cultural group for Ibaji indigenes both at home and in the Diaspora, had sent a save-our-soul letters to the Kogi state government and the National Emergency Relief Agency, (NEMA) to provide relief assistance to the flood victims, but there has not been any official response.

In one of the letters to the Director General of NEMA, the IUF wrote: “we write to solicit urgent support, intervention, relief materials and palliatives for the people of Ibaji whose entire land area is submerged by this year’s (2022) flood.

“The people of Ibaji LGA with a population of over 197,000, according to 2006 Population Census, are urgently in need of the following: Medicals and drugs, food, clothes and temporary shelter (IDP camps) etc.”

The SOS, signed by Stephen Ucholla and Henry Akoje, President and Secretary of the organization respectively, also made a passionate appeal to the state Governor, Yahaya Bello to pay a visit to the flood ravaged communities in Ibaji to evaluate the monumental damages done to lives and property with a view to providing relief assistance to the affected people.

Adesina quoted Buhari saying, “Daewoo Group has massive investments in the automobile, maritime, and other sectors of our economy.

”I am also aware that Daewoo is currently engaged in the execution of the NLNG train seven project and also constructing sea-going LPG vessels for NNPC and her partners.

“I looked forward to the delivery of ongoing projects, especially at the Warri and Kaduna refineries, and the NLNG Train Seven.

”This no doubt will open many more windows of opportunities for Daewoo and other Korean companies in Nigeria”

OPINION: Briturkey, Britaly and fear of Britainistan

0
Azu Ishiekwene

By Azu Ishiekwene

In a widely shared story last week, The Economist likened the political carnage in Britain to the situation in Italy in the 1940s. Italy was a major theatre of the First World War at the end of which the country was in ruins.

It is so unstable that in spite of the tenuous hold of the Christian Democrats on power for much of the time, the country has produced 69 governments since 1945, an average of one and a half governments every two years. Italy’s instability is the joke of Europe.

Britain is not doing badly. With three prime ministers in 50 days, not to mention the execution of four chancellors of the exchequer already, with the fifth barely finding his feet, the UK is the new butt of European jokes, its modern-day Italy – or if you like, Britaly – however much Italians may dislike the comparison.

But before Britaly there was Briturkey. At the peak of its powers, Turkey, or what was then the Ottoman Empire, controlled much of Southeast Europe, Western Asia and North Africa, stretching to the borders of Egypt.

Decline set in around the 18th and 19th century as the empire was soon consumed by corruption, inefficiency and instability. Turkey, under the Sultan, became not just an embarrassment to itself but also a huge joke among the powers at the time.

Russian Czar Nicholas I, fed up with the hubris of the Turkish Empire, famously described Turkey as “the sick man of Europe.” He may well have been speaking of Britain, or if you like, Briturkey – today’s sick man of Europe.

Perhaps the emergence on Tuesday of Rishi Sunak as Britain’s third Prime Minister would halt the slide into chaos. But before Sunak, let’s go back to Brexit, the moment when the chaos gathered pace and finally unravelled.

Nigel Farage, Michael Gove and Boris Johnson led the campaign. They cashed in on the growing right-wing sentiment in the country at the time and converted it into a liveried Brexit bus, fuelled with lies, hysteria and empty promises.

They forged numbers, exaggerated differences and painted a false picture of the El Dorado that the UK would become if only the country threw off the yoke of Brussels and took back control of its borders and politics again. Freedom was the buzz word. With the rise of Donald Trump and the events in the US at the time, the Bo-Jo frenzy was red meat for the right wing.

It’s true that Britain, a largely food-importing country, has always been at the receiving end of Europe’s poor trade practices, especially its obsession with farm subsidies and shambolic regulations.

But the 27 other members of the union, who valued Britain’s membership, were not willing to negotiate, especially in a hugely interdependent and globalised world. Even after Britain’s exit, the benefits of membership have still not been fully dismantled in the tangled mess that the Irish sea border has become.

Britain has always been ambivalent about Europe, which was why it formed the spectacularly unsuccessful rival European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in 1959.

The French, often impatient, but unfailingly contemptuous of British coyness, kept the UK out of the Common Market (a precursor of the EU) until after the death of General De Gaulle in 1970. After a referendum, the UK joined the EU in 1973. But the same demons which always kept it out, only now compounded by its discovery of oil (the counterweight against the European farm subsidies) and nationalism, stoked its eventual departure in 2020.

Two years down the road, the return of £350 million on the NHS alone which Boris Johnson and co promised on the Brexit campaign bus is turning out worse than a fantasy: it’s con-artistry! Johnson got Brexit done alright, but he has left British politics in chaos and its economic rating slightly better than junk bonds. Its political reputation has taken a beating reminiscent of Dardanelles and the Suez Canal.

Sure, Britain has better flexibility to manage its affairs and its way of life. It is free from the shambolic regulations of Brussels and, let’s face it, managed COVID-19 far better than most European countries, including its traditional ally on the other side of the pond. It even has an unemployment figure lower than that of most countries in Europe and an independent Central Bank.

But this modest achievement has come at a very high price. European workers have shunned the UK with devastating consequences for services, especially the fishing, agriculture and the health sectors.

Britain is broken. Inflation is at a record high, with basic food prices going through the roof and about 33 percent of the population outside fixed mortgage contracts now struggling to pay.

Savings have been damaged, pensions are tanking and public services stretched to breaking point. The British economy, which was 90 percent of the German economy six years ago, has shrunken to 70 percent, and could shrink further as another recession looms.

On top of all of this, the Russia-Ukraine war which has destabilised global supply chains, has also exposed Britain to energy shocks significantly worse than might have been the case in the comfort of the EU zone.

This is the difficult job that Sunak has taken. He steps up weeks after the Tory Party nearly exhausted its cardboard list of potential leaders that turned up Liz Truss who will now be remembered for her dizzying flip-flops and disastrous mini-budget.

Former Lib-Dem-turned-Tory, former Abolitionist-turned-pro-Monarchist, former Remainer-turned-Brexiteer and former Wage-cutter-turned-Spendthrift, the lady, Truss, was always for the turning. And this time, she didn’t disappoint. Yet, as the Tory party rank-and-file contemplates their current misery, “otherness”, in this case the migrant, whether British-born or not, will be the scapegoat.

There were two main reasons why Tory MPs didn’t want Sunak, and both have little to do with his competence. The first, of course, was his rebellion against Johnson, which opened the floodgates.

The second, which Britain squirms to discuss, but which nonetheless is rearing its head in radio phone-in programmes, is his race. Having Sadiq Khan, London Mayor of Asian origin was difficult enough, especially at a time when Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is causing some discomfort in the chemistry of the royal heritage.

By some accounts, the UK has had at least 11 non-English prime ministers. But never in its over 220-year history as a union has a non-Caucasian, a 42-year-old Hindu of Indian origin, occupied Number 10.

The reality of a UK variety of the Obama-moment will spook the conservative base, raising the spectre of Britainistan. But MPs who figured that what the Tory party needed the most to retain power was competence over race, strategically blocked the decision of the new party leader from going back to the base.

MPs knew that Sunak, a grafter, was their last card. They also knew that he would have lost at a general party conference, which might have thrown up a worse choice whose precipitous exit would have hastened the call for election – an election at which Labour would have been sure to decimate them.

But just like it happened in the US after Obama’s election, the UK will likely have its own Tea Party moment, too. A rash of right-wingers who think their country is being stolen from them by “otherness” will push back, perhaps even violently.

France has struggled to keep this dangerous fringe at bay. As the recent election of Italy’s President, GiorgiaMeloni, showed, however, right-wingers who are once again stirring in Europe, may now find their cousins in the UK.

Yet, if Sunak manages to re-unite his party, calm the markets and stabilise the country – as I believe he can from his COVID-19 record – he might well be poised for the historic role of being more than just a placeholder for the Tory Party; and who knows, get his own mandate.

It’s Sunak’s moment and I think he will seize it, even though his road will be rough.

2023:Tinubu Settles With Osinbajo, Says Fight Over

0
Yemi Osinbajo and Bola Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC   presidential candidate has not spoken about his relationship with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo since he defeated him to clinch the ticket of the ruling party for next year’s election. He has now broken his silence.

Osinbajo had ignored appeals to him to jettison his ambition and support Tinubu, who has been variously described as his benefactor for supporting him to become the nation’s number two citizen.

The vice president also served as the commissioner of Justice when Tinubu was the governor of Lagos state.

Therefore, the APC primary was said to have broken down the relationship that once existed between the two former political allies, particularly after Osinbajo was visibly absent from the presidential campaign activities of the party.

But the vice president had recently directed some of his aides nominated to the Tinubu Presidential campaign team to do all they could to ensure the success of Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

Snot a few have described Osinbajo’s action as one of the last ditch efforts to mend fences with the APC National Leader before the make or mar election next year.

Tinubu has now extended the olive branch to Osinbajo, saying he “has forgiven” the vice president.

“I have nothing against him. I have been to his house after the primaries,” the APC stalwart said.

According to him, “I saw him on the day of the goodwill message [at] the retreat organised by the president.

“And a man who forgives, a man who asks for forgiveness from Allah fully deserves forgiveness. If you cannot give forgiveness, how are you asking from Allah? To me, it is over.”

Meanwhile, the magazine learned that the APC candidate has been reaching out to Osinbajo and intend to ensure that he gets his total support before the critical election.

“Tinubu needs everybody; he needs to bring everybody in, and that’s what he has been doing since he won the APC presidential ticket. You will recall that he visited the vice president after wining the ticket, and they have been talking. Tinubu has a large heart, that’s the difference between him and other presidential candidates,” one of his aide who refused to be mentioned said.

Trader Caught Impersonating Admission Seekers

0
Emmanuel Uwakwe

Luck ran out on an impersonator, Emmanuel Uwakwe Wednesday as he was caught by security personnel of University of Calabar writing aptitude test for some admission seekers.

Uwakwe, an Aba- based trader, during interrogation, confessed he was to be paid #50, 000 for the illicit deal and had already collected #40,000 upfront.

Chief Security Officer of the institution, retired Capt. Austin Bisong, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN that the suspect was caught after writing the Computer Based Test for six candidates who were seeking admission into the institution.

His words: “the suspect, Uwakwe, was arrested by our security operatives after they detected that he had stayed longer than expected on the computer.

“When he was arrested, he was already trying to log in the personal identity number for the seventh candidate.

“He was using five minutes for each paper during the examination.

“At this point, all the six candidates he wrote for can never have their results, and they have risked their admission status with the university,” he said.

According to him, investigation was ongoing to unravel if there was any connivance with any staff of the institution or security personnel.

He said that the suspect would be handed over to external security agency for further investigation and necessary action.

Meanwhile,  showing remorse for his action, Uwakwe has pleaded with the university management for forgiveness.
