Unveiled Redesigned Naira: CNPP Hails Emefiele, Buhari Administration, Says New Banknotes Legacy Achievement

Conference Of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has commended the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele and the President Muhammadu Buhari administration on the successful unveiling of the redesigned naira notes, saying the redesign will remain a legacy achievement for the administration.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the CNPP Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu.

According to the umbrella body of all registered political parties and political associations in Nigeria, “President Buhari administration has, by this singular action, demonstrated a strong will not only to manage Nigeria’s ailing economy but also towards a free, fair and credible general elections in 2023.

“With the launch of the new Naira notes, if followed by strict implementation of the outlined monetary strategies for a full cashless economy, Nigerian democracy will be better for it.

“President Buhari rightly noted the ‘urgent need to take control of the volume of currency in circulation and to address the hoarding of Naira banknotes outside the banking system, the shortage of clean and fit banknotes in circulation, and the increase in counterfeiting of high-denomination Naira banknotes’.

“Mr. President rightly explained that it is on this basis that he gave his approval for the redesign of the ₦‎200, ₦‎500 and ₦‎1000 banknotes.

“For the CNPP, there is no better time to take control of the money in circulation than now, especially with the forthcoming 2023 general elections and the experience Nigeria has had in recent years in form of voter inducements.

“Vote buying is a menace all citizens must vehemently stand against in unism irrespective of political affiliation as we can only play politics where there is a level playing field.

“No democracy can survive if political activities are controlled by moneybags and corrupt politicians who market themselves based on their financial might rather than showcasing their track records of good governance and commitment to the ongoing war against corruption.

“The Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele, has immensely assisted President Buhari a great deal to demonstrate glaring commitment to the fight against electoral corruption through the proposed controlled distribution of the new notes, which will in turn control inflation, make monetary policies more effective and ensure financial inclusion.

“The best fight against corruption is to prevent it in the first place and this is one of the the gains of the redesigned high-denominations banknotes.

“For Nigeria to maximize benefits of the redesigned naira notes, including enhanced security, greater durability, attractiveness and promotion of rich cultural heritage as well as tackling vote-buying, the CBN and anti-corruption agencies must at all cost discourage over-the-counter cash withdrawals in large sums”, the CNPP said.

Babachir Lawal Reveals Tinubu’s Disdain For The Igbo; “He Told Us Igbo Votes Don’t Matter”

When the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, visited Ebonyi State, South-east, Nigeria, on Thursday, in continuation of his Presidential rally, he was given a Chieftaincy title of “Dike Di Ora Nma (A hero loved by the people). It was a first for Tinubu since the Campaign began. No other State which he visited had deemed it fit to honour him with a Chieftaincy title.

A few days ago, too, when he went to Imo State to talk with South- East businessmen and stakeholders, Imo also scored a first. The State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, announced a donation of the sum of One Billion Naira to Tinubu’s Campaign coffers. The Governor said it was on behalf of 2,000 Igbo businessmen. It is the first time any such donation was publicly given to Tinubu.

But according to his erstwhile close friend and political ally, Tinubu may be laughing at the kind gestures. According to Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to  the Government of the Federation, SGF, as far as the Presidential election is  concerned, Tinubu does not think  Igbo votes matter. He thinks they are of no use. They should be ignored.

Lawal, a chieftain of the APC, spoke on Thursday in an interview with Channels Television. He revealed that during the Campaign for the Presidential Primary, Tinubu  stopped them from going to the South-east to lobby delegates for votes, telling them Igbo votes do not matter.

Lawal “During the Convention, he did not even allow us to go to the South-east. He said it is a waste of time and money.”

Insisting that Tinubu would not win the Presidential seat in 2023, Lawal said: “South-south is not his territory. So, where is he going to get votes?”

In Ebonyi on Thursday, Tinubu had promised: “I believe in the entrepreneurial spirit of the Igbo. I encouraged a lot of Igbo businesses and investments in Lagos, and will even do more if I become President.

“If elected, there will be no discrimination. Igbo interests will be respected and protected. I will also encourage policies to aid commerce and support South-east States to reach their full potential.”

Lawal fell out with Tinubu over the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC. According to Lawal, fielding two Muslims candidates is an insult on Northern Christians.

He said being close to Tinubu, he had, on a number of occasions, advised him against picking a Muslim as his running mate. But he said it was of no use as Tinubu chose to ignore all Northern Christians, and continued with the marginalization of Christians.

Lawal: “APC is not on the ballot. I told my friend (Tinubu) before the ticket issue came up, I said if you are going for a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the consequence is that every Christian all over Nigeria would feel slighted. Not only in the country, but every Christian all over the World would feel slighted and their religion insulted.”

On Thursday, Lawal endorsed the Presidential ticket of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.

Wike Descends On Abaribe, Says Senator Lacks Integrity

Nyesom Wike and Senator Abaribe

By Charles Igbo

“He dumped PDP three days after collecting money from us, and promising not to leave”

Hurricane Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State, on Thursday, November 24, descended on an otherwise respected Senator Enyinnaya Abaraibe.

Without mentioning Abaribe’s name, Wike dismissed the Senator as lacking in integrity, and urged the people not to vote for him again to go back to the Senate.

Governor Wike spoke at the Abia PDP flag-off of the Governorship Campaign as well as those of the National and State Assemblies.

Present, in addition to the host Governor,  Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, were other members of the PDP G5, now known as the Integrity Group, led by Wike, and who are at loggerheads with the National Leadership of the PDP, as well as Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

They are: Samuel Ortom, Benue, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu and Seyi Makinde, Oyo.

Addressing the mammoth crowd in both English language and Igbo dialect, Wike told them the story of how a Senator from Obingwa came to him, and told him that he wanted to dump the PDP.

He said he urged him not to  leave, and asked him what he wanted. The Senator, Wike revealed, said he wanted money. Wike said  he was given money. But, three days later, the Senator left the PDP. He then asked the crowd if such a person has integrity. The crowd roared: “No.” He asked:”Will you vote for him again?” Again, no, roared the crowd. And he told them: “Don’t vote for him again.”

Wike: “This Senator is from Obingwa. He came and said he wanted to leave PDP. I urged him not to. He said he wanted money, and promised not to leave PDP. He promised me that he is not going to leave PDP. I called your Governor and told him that he has promised not to leave PDP. You know who I am talking about. He said he needed money. And we gave him money. Three days later, he left the PDP.

“Does he have integrity? Will you vote for such a person to represent us?  Can such a person represent us?  Fail, fail, fail, fail”

Senator Abaribe decamped to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. Both he and Governor Ikpeazu are from the same Zone, and are contesting for the Senate seat in 2023. Before he dumped the PDP, he was the Senate Minority Leader.

Soludo: People Were Shocked I Hugged Obi, We Spoke Twice Wednesday Night; Says They Will Iron Out Things

Peter Obi and Charles Soludo

By Charles Igbo

Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo  on Thursday, blamed everybody but himself for the very untidy relationship between him and the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, which became public a few days ago.

The bad relationship was blown open by Soludo, who in a long essay, accused Obi of deceiving Ndigbo when he knows he would never win the Presidential race. He said come 2023, Obi may not even take the third position. And, he said much more. Before this, he had, in an interview with Channels Television, dismissed Obi’s investment for the State, when Obi was Governor, as no use. He said they were inconsequential. Taken on by Obi’s followers, Soludo wrote the long essay where he waved Obi away from the Presidential race and called him a joker.

Soludo’s inexplicable essay attracted outrage, especially, from the Igbo race and Obi’s fans. Not a few people disparaged him for deliberately de-marketing Obi.

However, on Thursday, November 24, when the two men met for the first time since Soludo’s essay, they hugged like long lost brothers.

Both had met at St Patrick’s Cathedral Awka at a Mass to mark the 70th birthday of Most Revd. Paulinus Ezeokafor. Obi was seated before Soludo entered. As he sat down, he noticed Obi and quickly went to him, greeted him and welcomed him to Awka. They hugged.

Speaking on their reaction to each other in the Church, Soludo said people were surprised that both of them hugged. He disclosed that they spoke twice the previous night -Wednesday. Soludo blamed everybody but himself for the rift between him and Obi, and said some people tried to blow it out of proportion. He then revealed that the two of them would meet to iron things out.

The Governor, also, denied receiving the sum of $28m bribe to throw obstacles at Obi’s Presidential ambition.

He described their meeting in a Church as divine, and the day as a special day.

Tinubu, A Good Product Ndigbo Will Benefit From, Says Uzodinma

Bola Tinubu and Hope Uzodimma

Governor  Hope Uzodimma of Imo State had said that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not just a good product the Igbo will benefit from, but one who will end Ndigbo’s lamentations if elected president next year.

Governor Uzodimma, who is the South East Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, spoke at Abakiliki, the Ebonyi State capital during the Presidential campaign rally that took place on Thursday.

“There will be no more lamentation for the South East if, by the grace of God, Asiwaju becomes president next year,” Governor Uzodimma noted, adding that, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a very good product that Ndigbo will benefit from.”

The Governor said that Tinubu, as the APC candidate, will rely on his already established and known achievements to win the people’s trust just as it is a known fact that,”his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, a well-tested professional.”

Governor Uzodimma added on the APC standard bearer that, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one of our best and brightest in Nigeria and we believe in him.”

He, therefore, urged the South East to transform the huge turn out of party faithful at the Ebonyi rally into votes for better Tinubu and Shettima, insisting that their place in the decision – making body is already assured because victory is also assured in the five states of the South East for the APC.

According a well deserved honour to Governor Uzodinma in his speech, Tinubu  declared that the Governor represents the change, the hope and the Joy of not only Imo but Nigeria as a whole.

Among other promises, Tinubu who told the mammoth enthusiastic crowd that he is their best bet for the office of the president assured the audience that the South East will not be sidelined in his Government when elected president.

2023: APC’s Rejection of BVAS, IReV Confirms it Has No Genuine Followership, Says Atiku Campaign

0

The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation says that the rejection of electronic transmission of results through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and INEC Election Result Viewing portal (IReV) by the All Progressives Congress (APC) confirms that the APC and its Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, do not have genuine followership among Nigerians ahead of  the 2023 elections.

The Atiku Campaign in a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan maintained  that the APC has realized that given its mass failures across the spectrum of our polity, it does not enjoy the support of Nigerians and as such is scared of any process that will deliver a credible balloting in the elections.

In the statement dated November 24, 2022, the Atiku Campaign Office said:

“APC’s mortal fear of mass rejection at the polls is directly behind its unnecessary tantrums against the electronic transmission of results

“It is abundantly clear that the APC’s plan is to return our electoral process to the days of mass rigging through the use Incidence Forms, ballot box snatching, ballot stuffing and other electoral malpractices.

“Having become frustrated because of the introduction of technology to improve the electoral process, the APC is seeking ways to manipulate the elections to enable it to re-enact  the horrible electoral seasons of its devious act of holding electoral officers by their jugulars and forcing them to write results for APC candidates.

The APC will desire to deploy the use of armed helicopters in order to chase away Nigerians from their polling stations so as to write results and force same on INEC officials.

“The Atiku/Okowa Campaign urges Nigerians to remain vigilant on the decision reached by INEC to promote the integrity of our electoral process.

“The only option left for the APC is to accept the reality of its rejection and quietly fizzle away from our political firmament.

“After all, the APC has since lost the statutory integrity to field candidates in the 2023 general elections due to its illegal and unconstitutional congresses.

Obi Reacts To 2022 NBS Poverty Report, Says FG Failed Nigerians

0
Peter Obi

The Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi has reacted to the 2022 National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report, saying that it shows “how badly Nigeria is doing in terms of investing in the wellbeing of the people”.

In a series of tweets Obi noted that roughly 133 million Nigerians are multi-dimensionally poor, representing about 63% of Nigerians.

According to the LP presidential flag-bearer, although most of those affected are in the North,  multidimensional poverty is widespread across the country, noting that the report provides some sobering facts.

“First, the rural part of Nigeria is trapped in abject power; second, we are leaving our children, miserable and uneducated. 27 percent of school-age children are out of school and poor, 29 percent of all school-aged children are not attending school, and 94 percent of out of school children are very poor.”

Obi in the tweet also queried, “What future does Nigeria have without educated and happy children? What violent, nasty, and poor future are we building with such terrible lack of investment in our children”

He noted that “Multidimensional Poverty Index is the best mirror of failure of governance in the country” noting that “In spite of earning trillions in oil revenue, in spite of borrowing trillion naira for infrastructure development, almost half of Nigerians is poor and close to two-third of Nigerians do not have access to basic sanitation, access to basic education, lack basic nutrition and do not visit hospitals”

Obi described the situation as “terrible disgrace and disservice to a country with our tremendous natural and human resource”

He said that the political economy of this report should be made clear to every Nigerian voter because what it simply means is that government is not working.

“It means that the state is working for the few, and not for all the citizens of the country. It means that the future is terrible for every Nigerian- young or old, rich or poor.  The trending of multidimensional poverty if not arrested immediately will damage state capacity and effectiveness and therefore disarray economic and social policies that will reverse the trend in the future.”

Painting further the gloomy picture of the report Obi noted, “If we combine atrocious fiscal decline with grand and pervasive corruption and the level of incompetence of public leadership to such generalized poverty, we will end up a completely collapsed state, thrown back to state of nature”

He remarked that unless the situation is arrested, “With our population estimated to reach 400 million in the next 28 years, Nigeria would become a security risk to the entire Sub-Saharan Africa.

“This report tells a story of the failure of economic policy of government. The failure of government to invest in basic social and human infrastructure and the lack of commitment to the wellbeing of ordinary Nigerians, especially those in the rural communities is heart-breaking.

“How on earth is it that 63 percent of Nigerians do not have access to the most basic sanitation and nutrition? How come 63 percent of our citizens cannot approach a clinic or health center within two hours? The World Bank assessment of poverty in Nigeria in 2022 makes it clear that additional 5.1m Nigerians became poor this year.

The LP candidate noted that with the report, even if there was  no pandemic and the war in Ukraine, Nigeria would still not have been able to  reduce its poverty rate by any percentage because the policy administration has no impact on poverty.

“This is a clear indictment of the APC government and its elitist policy administration. It shows a failure to appreciate the need to refocus on social and economic policies that improve the access of the poor to basic services. It is the result of the old idea of development as contract and procurement of poorly managed big projects that feed into the bureaucracy of corruption.

He said that Labor Party offers a different approach to development that emphasizes the wellbeing of the people and ensures that policies and resources are targeted at materially improving the wellbeing of everyone, not just political leaders and their cronies.

Obi said that, “It is now time to end politics as usual, time to disband the army of greedy and self-serving politicians in Abuja and elect those who are connected to the people and those who share the pains and deprivations of the working and unemployed youths, abandoned women and deprived children across Nigeria”

He promised to disrupt this trajectory of failure and wickedness in high places across Nigeria and give Nigerians back their country so that every child will have access to good school, good drinking water, good sanitation, good healthcare, and their parents good jobs and the joy of being a citizen of a country that is lifting millions from poverty into shared prosperity.

“If China lifted 750 million from poverty in about 20 years and if India reduced poverty from 50 percent to 20 percent in about 15 years, we could do even better. We can wipe off multidimensional poverty in less than a decade. Lets do it together, let us end the corruption and incompetence with our votes” he concluded.

My Plans For Igbos – APC Presidential Candidate Tinubu

Bola Ahmed Tinubu

By Ayodele Oni

All Progressives Congress, (APC) Presidential Candidate Bola Tinubu on Thursday unfolded the plans of his administration for the Igbos, assuring that there will be no discrimination against them, if he is elected  into office.

He, also, promised to address all issues and policies limiting development in the South East, if he becomes Nigeria’s president.

Tinubu said this while speaking at the APC Presidential campaign rally in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State .

Speaking on his plans for the Igbo as president, Tinubu said there would be no discrimination against them, same way he encouraged them while he was Lagos Governor.

“I believe in the entrepreneurial spirit of the Igbo. I encouraged a lot of Igbo businesses and investments in Lagos and will even do more if I become president.

“If elected, there will be no discrimination, Igbo’s interests will be respected and protected. I will also encourage policies to aid commerce and support South East states to reach their full potential.

“I will engage the leaders of the South East in a heart-to-heart discussion on all issues agitating their minds.

“If elected, I will address all issues and policies that tend to hinder their commerce and enterprise. I will work with businessmen and women and encourage them to make the South East the Taiwan of Africa.”

Speaking specifically on his plans for Ebonyi State, Tinubu said, “Working with the state government, I will mechanize the Ebonyi solid minerals sector and install processing plant.

“We will expand Ebonyi agricultural sector and make it one of the largest rice producing states in Africa.”

The APC candidate commended Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi for his excellent performance in lifting the state.

“I commend Governor Umahi for lifting up Ebonyi and for his developmental projects, some of which I commissioned yesterday (Wednesday) and his transformational and impactful leadership,” Tinubu said.

“He has laid a solid foundation for Ebonyi. He remains a good testament to what is possible in Nigeria.”

Ekiti Assembly Crisis: Group Slams Afe Babalola, Others, Accuses Them Of Pursuing Personal Agenda

0

By Ayodele Oni

A group, Ekiti Development Agenda, (EDA) has accused some lawyers led by Afe Babalola, Wole Olanipekun and Femi Falana all Senior Advocates, of nursing personal agenda in the on-going speakership crisis rocking the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

In a statement signed by Odun Igbalajobi, Director, Public Affairs of the group, the trio were accused of “partisan interest masquerading as public concern for Ekiti people and her development.”

The Group notes that “Ordinarily, there is nothing wrong in elders who consider themselves as leaders of thought expressing concern about developments in their state of origin, Ekiti State and no ulterior motive should be read to such.

“It is however important to expose personal vendetta when it masquerades as public interest. This is unfortunately the case in this current controversy.

“Since the matter that has provided them with the excuse for this intervention may still end in court as they have hinted in their diatribe, we will leave that to the courts to address appropriately when the time comes.

“What is important to state here is that for the three elders, any discerning mind will know that this is a blatantly partisan interest masquerading as public concern for Ekiti people and her development. We shall explain.

“Anyone reading their letter will see how they strenuously hinted at so called nameless “political marauders”, accepting hook, line and sinker all that was parroted by the renegade member of the House, Gboyega Aribisogan, who has become a willing tool in the luminaries’ hate driven agenda.

“We have searched everywhere in the records for a similar letter by these so called concerned Ekiti elders when Rt Hon Wale Omirin was removed by seven (7) members of the 26 member assembly during Governor Fayose’s tenure and could not find any.

“If we are not mistaken, Fayose and these 7 members were represented by Dele Adesina in the suit brought by the majority members to reverse the injustice done to them.

“Yet, in the instant case eighteen members of the Ekiti House of Assembly removed their Speaker and the blame is on political marauders as though the Honourable members are kindergarten children who have no sense of proper parliamentary conduct.

“Besides, if the Police in their wisdom undertook their constitutional duty of protecting lives and property by acting on what they considered as credible intelligence (which later proved to be correct) when some hoodlums attempted to gain entry and burn down the Assembly, why blame the police for doing their job?

“Our revered legal luminaries ought to have found this out before insinuating that the Governor was not responsible for giving the orders to his Commissioner of Police.

“Who then was responsible? Of course, the agent of our legal luminaries, Gboyega Aribisogan, has been everywhere in the media shouting the name of the former Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi as the person who didn’t want him as Speaker, even though 18 of his colleagues took him out.

“One may ask, whatever happened to the principle of law back by Yoruba tradition on the need for us adjudicators, in the case these elders, to hear the other side.

“And this is why we have taken it upon ourselves to expose these luminaries for what they really are, especially since we also know that Dr Fayemi belongs to the “Silence is Golden” school and would rather continue to extend courtesies to these people who are not deserving of any courtesies.

“For us, it’s time to remove the mask from the masquerades and lay bare the ulterior motives behind this pretentious claims to Ekiti interest.”
