How We Rescued Train Hostages – Obaseki, Wonders How Six People Abducted 32; Indicts NRC, Traditional Rulers

Godwin Obaseki

By Ayodele Oni

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has given details on how kidnapped train passengers were rescued by security agents.

Obaseki, who spoke Sunday morning in Benin, disclosed that the State Government is also investigating alleged complicity of some Traditional Rulers in the state in kidnapping.

According to him, Government will henceforth go after Traditional Rulers who let out grazing land to undesirable elements in their community without checking their background, an act that is contrary to the government policies and directives.

He was speaking while on a visit to the state Police Command Clinic to emphatize with rescued victims of the Igueben train station kidnapping incident about a week ago.

Some passengers waiting to board train at Igueben were last Sunday abducted and whisked away into the bush by suspected kidnappers.

The Nigeria Railway Corporation, (NRC) had since suspended operations temporarily at the station.

Obaseki said: “We thank God  that we have been able to secure the release of almost all the people that were abducted last week at Igueben train station by bandits in Edo State.

“It has been a gruelling experience, something we never prayed for, something we hope never to happen again. We have tested the will of our security forces and I am so glad that the system we have in place is resilient.

“You can see that within the last one week, we have been on the trail of the kidnappers and we contained the kidnappers within the area.

“They could not leave the area and with all the intelligence and the area support we got from the Police and the technology support, we were able to track them.

“With the training of the Special Forces we have, and with the support of all the other members of the forces we put together, we were able to secure the release of 12 out of the 14 that were being held hostage unharmed and we think it is worth something celebrating, something we should thank and appreciate members of our security forces for, for the sacrifices they put in.

“The endless and sleepless nights which they put into this effort and I think it deserves to be commended  and we thank God that today is Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

“We have something to rejoice about and so we thank our security forces and we shall continue to invest in our security system of the state and we will continue to encourage the collaboration of our security forces and make sure we continue to invest in the requisite technology and equipment to curb this kind of incidence.

“I must also express our disappointment at the authorities of the Railway Corporation because after the Kaduna incident, one would have expected that they would have secured their facilities better.

“So, for six men to have entered and kidnapped about 30 people is something I think should be investigated.

“It does not speak well of their preparedness to run a safe and efficient rail transport system in the country and it does not give Nigerians the confidence to use that mode of transportation.

“You can not tell me that that facility at Igueben train Station has only one policeman with a riffle guarding that facility particularly after what happened in Kaduna.

“I believe this agency knows what it is doing and should therefore investigate what happened to ensure that this kind of thing does not happen to any Nigerian anywhere in this country.

“We are working and consulting with the Commissioner of Police and with the service chiefs  because we have information that some traditional rulers particularly in that area are not respecting government decisions to make sure that grazing land are not given to herders in their forests.

“I have instructed that those Traditional Rulers be investigated and anyone of them that is found to be harbouring people they should not harbour in their domain will have questions to answer because in communities that have cooperated, we are not having this kind of incidents.

“There was no money or ransome paid to secure the release of the abducted victims because the special forces went into the forest and overpowered the kidnappers who ran away with only two of their victims and they left the rest and the special forces and members of the security team, the military, the Police, the DSS and the vigilantes and hunters to secure the twelve abducted victims that were brought to this hospital.”

The Edo State Commissioner of Police (CP) Mohammed Dankwara said the victims were rescued in Udo Forest in Ugboha in Esan South East Local Government Area of the State.

“Our men in collaboration with other security forces have been in the forest for a week now and it was there they intercepted those people because from the intelligence gathered, the kidnappers and the victims were roaming that area.

“So, yesterday night, the security forces laid an ambush and in trying to move the victims from one area to the other, the security forces intercepted them. So, that was exactly what happened.

“As I speak with you, we are making progress to make sure the other two victims are released unhurt.”

He said there was no casualty in the operation as the kidnappers took to their heels stressing however that they have been able to arrest some members of the syndicate involved in the kidnapping operation.

Uzodimma’s Three Years of Effective Leadership

0
Hope Uzodimma

By Oguwike Nwachuku

Change will not come, if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change that we seek – Barack Obama

Exactly three years today, January 15, 2020 to be precise, destiny thrust Sen. Hope Uzodimma on Imo State, as he was sworn in as the Governor amid pomp and circumstance.

On that fateful day, Uzodimma, like those with deep intuition, who believe in him, knew that change had come to our dear Imo, though the road leading to where the state was dumped by the buccaneers in the bush was thorny and muddy.

Therefore, the popular view now that Uzodimma’s government has kept faith with Imo people three years down the road, in line with the oath of office he took, simply speaks to the voice of reason.

It is both exhilarating and encouraging noting the general thinking about the effectiveness of Uzodimma’s government that was brought to the fore at the recent stakeholders’ meeting in Owerri, where Imo leaders painstakingly reviewed his performance after three years in office and scored him highly.

I do not need to bore us with what we already know as additional fallout from the stakeholders meeting such as the leaders’ call, via a motion for Uzodimma to seek re-election to continue with the good work he is doing in Imo. Regardless, I must add, however, that three years ago when Uzodimma’s government came on board, what he met on the ground, coupled with seen and unseen forces that coalesced to frustrate his regime, but for God’s grace, were there for any discerning mind to see and be the judge today.

That Uzodimma has provided effective leadership three years in office is not in doubt and never the sole point we are out to espouse in this intervention. Rather, what Imo people have seen, which other persons across the country are witnesses to, is that he came to office prepared, the way genuine leaders do, but there was calculated attempt not to give him a chance.

It is rather unfortunate and regrettable that those opposed to Uzodimma’s coming to Imo three years ago, and fought to derail what God had purposed for the state through him, defined him in their own way. Being blind to Uzodimma’s visionary, pragmatic, courageous, transformative and other covert leadership attributes, they never reckoned with him as a leader, perhaps not in their mould of leaders.

Three years ago, those I prefer to call our “familiar leaders” were so impatient to ask the question, what are the characteristics of a good leader?

Good leaders possess self-awareness, garner credibility, focus on relationship-building, have a bias for action, exhibit humility, empower others, stay authentic, present themselves as constant and consistent, become role models and are fully present.

I am sure our “familiar leaders” are better informed now to see the missing link in their type of leaders, who ran the affairs of Imo compared to Uzodimma, who is in the saddle.

In the course of writing this short essay, I did a little research on the leadership attributes of two key global leaders – former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama and the late Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew – in relation to Uzodimma and his mission in Imo.

I can conveniently say that the trio are visionary, transformational and pragmatic, and in their rights, possess captivating oratorical powers with which they command the attention of their audiences, whether in U.S. in the case of Obama, Singapore in the case of Yew or Imo if we are referring to Uzodimma.

One must have been part of Uzodimma’s daily routine since January 15, 2020, with its dose of vicissitudes, to appreciate the content of Audacity of Hope, an award winning book by Obama, as if he had Imo governor in mind while writing that book. Obama writes: “If you are walking down the right path and you are willing to keep walking, eventually you will make progress.”

You be the judge as Obama’s view concerns Uzodimma and his three years sojourn in Imo.

Suffice it to say that three years ago, the plan of the detractors was to cause Uzodimma to remove his eyes from the path he was headed. But to the glory of God, they failed because Hope had the will to keep walking to make progress.

What about Lee Kuan Yew’s From Third World to First? Like Uzodimma is striving courageously to turn Imo around after many years of devastation, Yew himself was courage personified. The former Singapore PM/father of modern Singapore almost singlehandedly pulled his country out of general poverty and disorder, turning a “little red dot” on the global map into a gleaming metropolis. According to Yew, “A nation is great not by its size alone; it is the will, the cohesion, the stamina, the discipline of its people and the quality of their leaders, which ensure it an honourable place in history.”

The devastation that was Imo prior to birthing of Uzodimma’s regime on January 15, 2020 was scary. But the government had a ready template, the well-articulated ‘Shared Prosperity’ programme embedded in the 3R tripod of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery. Today, virtually all the sectors in the state have something to show as regards reconstruction, rehabilitation or recovery, thereby making Uzodimma’s Shared Prosperity government a reality, and like Obama said, “I think when you spread the wealth around, it is good for everybody.”

In every sector, there is something to cheer concerning Uzodimma’s three years in office.

Many people are rather fascinated by the road revolution associated with the Shared Prosperity administration. Reason: there were simply no roads when he took over office. In three years, this government embarked on the massive construction of 70 roads, some already completed and commissioned, while others are at various levels of completion. Worthy of mention are Owerri-Orlu, Owerri-Okigwe, Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia, Orlu-Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga and Oguta-Okporo-Orlu. To say that they have nothing to do with the ongoing construction of 135 kilometres local roads across the 27 local government areas of the state is to say the least.

It is Uzodimma’s firm belief that all the urban roads are critical corridors that will link Imo to her neighbours and, consequently, help to stimulate economic activities and commerce in the state.

Today, courtesy of Uzodimma’s Shared Prosperity administration, Imo is in tune with all the socio-economic parameters that will define the scope of its development, whether in the nearest, medium or long-term basis.

Worthy of mention here is the planned dredging of the Oguta Lake and Orashi River up to the Atlantic Ocean following a Memorandum of Understanding already signed for that purpose between the Uzodimma-led government and the Naval authorities. That is visionary, pragmatic and transformational leadership at play, which was completely lacking before January 15, 2020.

Also enormous are the gains accruable from the innovations in Uzodimma’s programmes with the birthing of the Ministry of Digital Economy and E-Government, which has the potential of training 100,000 youths in different skills for future employment, the state’s operation of accountable and transparent fiscal process that earned her $30 million over the past three years under the State Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) and the recent launch of the Hope Green Revolution, the acronym that would drive the money-spinning Imo Environment Laboratory and waste recycling facility, under the Sustainable Tran-Environment International Foundation (STEI), for the purpose of reducing green house gas emission.

What, perhaps, marks Uzodimma out from the pack of other leaders that came to Imo before him is his passion for service based on open, transparent, credible, inclusive and accountable government. That remains the magic wand with which he has built trust with the government at the centre, the international community and the development partners. That he keeps increasing the budgetary allocation of capital projects, year in and out, signposts a leadership that is people-oriented and interested in relegating selfish desires.

A little of how Uzodimma concluded his speech during the January 5, 2023 stakeholders’ meeting chaired by Dr. Pascal Dozie still serves as a reminder of the man we are proud to call our governor. This is important because three years down the road, Uzodimma has remained consistent with his approach to governance. During his first stakeholders’ meeting with Imo leaders on June 12, 2020, he said he had a covenant with God to govern Imo for the good of the people.

Today, the question concentrating the minds of many Imo citizens is how Uzodimma was able to achieve so much within short a period, howbeit with scarce resources, despite the challenge of politically-contrived and sponsored insecurity. For those still looking for the answer, he did not come to Imo, like I have always said, to joke.

LP Accuses Organisers Of  Big Brother Titan Of Sabotaging Obi; Wants Date Shifted

Big Brother Titans

By Adesina Soyooye

The Labour Party has accused the organisers of Big Brother Titan, of deliberately sabotaging its Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.

Big Brother, a reality show is very popular with youths, and is watched by several millions of them who usually ignore everything else, and stay glued to television sets.

This year’s edition, tagged Big Brother Titan is scheduled to start on January 14, 2023. But the LP said the timing was targeted  at its Candidate, and meant to distract the youths from their campaign for, and loyalty to Obi.

Obi’s support base is the youths. They are his bed rock and Chief Campaigners.

But according to the Party, Big Brother Titan is being sponsored by a Presidential Candidate to chip at Obi’s support base.

The LP has, therefore, appealed to the Youths, to ignore the Reality Show and focus on taking back their country and secure their future.

The Chief Spokesperson for the LP Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Yunusa Tanko, stated this at a press conference in Enugu.

He said the timing is targeted at the Youths to stop them from casting their votes for their preferred candidate. The show starts 40 days to the Presidential election.

Said Tanko: “The essence of this press conference is to alert the ever vibrant Nigerian youths of the hidden agenda behind the new reality show tagged: The Titans

“We have credible information that it’s being sponsored by one of the major opposition parties to distract the Nigerian youths from changing the leadership that has placed them in perilous times laced with abject poverty.”

He disclosed that available information to the LP revealed that the “son of one of the Presidential Candidate, in active collaboration with others visited South Africa to hatch this plan.

“As a Party with the sole aim of turning our dear country into a place where poverty, unemployment, ‘japa’ will be seen as a taboo we are being threatened by an opposition that hates the Nigerian youths with passion.

“Big Brother Titan or whatever they may call it, will distract the youths from taking what belongs to them now.

“The Big Brother Naija ended not long ago, why the ‘Titans’ now that we are facing a major election that will determine the future of the Nigerian youths?

“As a Party, we are not against reality shows because it helps the Nigerian youths to break the poverty line, but for now, for the common good of all, it should be shifted to another convenient date.

“This should be after the General Elections must have been concluded.

“Those putting together a Reality Show at this time when we are counting days to the General Elections are enemies of the Nigerian Youths, and by extension, all well- meaning Nigerians.”

Imo PDP Shocked Over SC’s Cancellation of Orlu Senatorial Primary, Assures Of Participation; Judgement  For Senate Only

0
Jones Onyereri

By Charles Igbo

The Imo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  has expressed shock over the disqualification of its Senatorial candidate for Imo West, Dr Jones Onyereri by the Supreme Court.

The Court had, on Friday, January 13, 2023, not only disqualified Onyereri, but barred the PDP from participating in the Senatorial election billed for February 25, 2023.

The Apex Court said it disqualified him because the Primary election which produced him was held in Owerri, instead of Orlu, the Headquarters of Imo West Senatorial Zone according to he Electoral Act.

In disqualifying PDP from participation in the Senatorial election, the Supreme Court said it was late to field another candidate as the time for a replacement has passed.

However, the PDP, has appealed to its faithful to calm down, and clarified to them that the Supreme Court judgement “does not affect other Candidates in Orlu Zone.”

The statement, also, assured that the PDP “will return to the ballot for Orlu Senate through judicial review.”

The full text of the statement, issued on Saturday, and signed by Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor, reads:

“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State, is deeply in shock over the unfair cancellation of the Imo West (Orlu Zone) Senatorial Primary Election of the Party by the Supreme Court, yesterday, January 13, 2023.

“For Imo PDP, this verdict of the apex court, which,  in line with the provisions of Section 87(9) of the Electoral Act, was premised on issues of venue of the Primary Election, clearly did not factor the realities in Imo State, particularly Orlu Zone, that warranted the Senatorial Primary Election for the Zone to be held in Owerri.

“The hydra-headed monster of insecurity in Orlu which has brought open political activities to a halt in the area is already a known fact.

“It was on the basis of this insecurity that the Party wrote INEC and sought approval for the primaries in Imo and Anambra States to be held at the relatively peaceful capital cities. This request was granted by INEC and formally conveyed to the Party through a letter. It is, therefore, shocking that the Supreme Court ignored this letter and proceeded to deliver judgment against our Party.

“Further, the apex court had earlier given judgements on this matter in similar suits, where it set a precedent and established the validity of primaries held outside of the respective constituencies as a result of insecurity.  Why that of Orlu has become different is what nobody can explain.

“On the strength of the above, Imo PDP shall consult with its team of legal experts and consider the option of seeking a review of the judgement at the Supreme Court, so as to quickly return the Party to the ballot for the 2023 Senatorial Election in Orlu Zone.

“Furthermore, our Party calls on our members, our teeming supporters in Orlu Zone and, in deed, the general public to discountenance the rumours that this judgement would in any way affect our other candidates across Orlu Zone.

“Also, PDP members and supporters in Orlu Zone are enjoined to remain calm and steadfast as the Party resolves the issue, being assured that our Party will certainly be on the ballot for the 2023 Orlu Senatorial Election.”

Before his disqualification, Onyereri was a frontrunner for the Imo West Senatorial election.

Uzodimma Eulogies Oguta’s Oldest Man, Ajie Nwapa

0
Hope Uzodimma

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has eulogised the oldest man in Oguta, Chief Christopher Nwapa, on the occasion of his 90th birthday celebration held on Saturday at his country home, noting that the celebrant was instrumental to the civilisation in his area and beyond.

In his remarks at the Thanksgiving Service held in  honour of Chief Nwapa at his compound, Governor Uzodinma described the nonegenarian as one of those that championed civilization and development in  Oguta Local Government Area.

His words: “Ajie C-Fine Nwapa was part of the cradle of civilization in Oguta and this part of the world. Ajie Nwapa is among the people the younger generations are looking up to in mastering the acts of hard work for  the overall benefits of the people.”

Governor Uzodinma also prayed God to continue to keep the celebrant in good health.

In honour of the celebrant described as a devout Christian of the Anglican Faith by the Clergy who officiated the Thanksgiving Service, Governor Uzodinma promised to donate a Bus as requested by the Church, the Cathedral Church of St Mary Magdalene, Oguta, for evangelism and work of God.

Welcoming the Governor and other guests, an in-law of the celebrant and a prominent son of Oguta, Chief Ernest Nwapa, described his father-in-law as a devout Christian, hardworking and peaceful man.

He said his father in-law resisted any plan to postpone the celebration of his 90th birthday for an elaborate one, at least with the Church.

Nwapa, who is the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Imo State University expressed appreciation at the presence of  Governor Uzodimma despite the very short notice he gave to him over his father in-law’s 90th birthday celebration.

On his own, the celebrant commended Governor Uzodimma over the good works he is doing in Imo State and prayed God to lavish him with strength and wisdom he needs to provide selfless services to the people.

Imo: Fatal Attack On Ikenga Ugochinyere’s Home; PVC Centre Too

Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere

By Charles Igbo

Imo State, especially Akokwa in Ideato Local Government Area and Ahiazu Mbaise, woke up Saturday, January 14, 2023, to a morning of tears, sorrow and death.

Gunmen killed and wreaked havoc at the home of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the Peoples Democratic Party’s House of Representatives Candidate for Ideato North and South. A very active politician, he is, also, the Spokesperson for CUPP.

Same Saturday, gunmen also, struck at a Permanent Voters Card collection centre, and killed a Security man.

The attack on Ugochinyere’s home was both fatal and devastating. At least, four persons were killed, including a middle aged man said to be Ugochinyere’s uncle. He was wearing a red-coloured, traditional, Igbo dress, Ishiagu. His body was sprawled on the ground of the expansive compound.

The destruction inside the compound was massive. Houses were set ablaze. And so were, about ten vehicles, including buses and, at least, one SUV. It is a sad sight to behold. Villagers whi thronged the Compound later, gazed at the ruins in shock. Some were crying. A number of neighbouring houses were also, allegedly, set on fire.

At the time of the attack, the PDP Candidate  was at home. He was the one who sent an SOS to the headquarters of his Party in Owerri, and desperately asked for help.

The Party, on its part, sent out an SOS to Security Agencies in the State,  appealing for help.

At the time of filing this report, the whereabouts and/or fate of Ugochinyere were unknown.

In a statement issued by the Imo PDP, signed by its Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor, the Party confirmed nobody has  been able to reach Ugochinyere. Opurozo described the attack on Ugochinyere’s home as well-coordinated and said a number of people  have been killed. ” Today represents a dark day for us in Imo PDP and Imo State at large”, he bemoaned.

He also said Ugochinyere remained unreachable. “Our efforts to get back to our candidate, Ikenga Ugochinyere, who was present at his residence when this attack began, and who had personally alerted us to the attack, has proven abortive. However, a torrent of messages, a while ago, from Ikenga’s close aides bore some deeply pathetic lines like: ‘Everywhere is on fire! They are killing us! We are going, going!’

The statement read in full:

“Imo PDP Alerts Security Agencies, Nigerians, International Community To Sponsored Killings, Arson  Going On At the Akokwa Residence of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, PDP Candidate For Ideato Federal Constituency

“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State alerts that, at the moment, there is a well-coordinated armed attack going on at the Akokwa residence of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the candidate of our Party for Ideato North/South Federal Constituency.

“This has resulted in the killing of undisclosed number of persons. Also, buildings are reported to have been set ablaze.

“Our efforts to get back to our candidate, Ikenga Ugochinyere, who was present at his residence when this attack began and who had personally alerted us to the attack, has proven abortive. However, a torrent of messages, a while ago, from Ikenga’s close aides bore some deeply pathetic lines like: “Everywhere is on fire! They are killing us! We are going going!”

“Imo PDP calls on security agencies to immediately intervene and quell the attack on our candidate and our Party members at his residence in Akokwa.

“Nigerians and international community are to recall that on December 23, 2022, there was an attack on the convoy of our candidate by clearly-identified agents of the Imo State Government. It is shocking that despite our demand for the arrest and prosecute of those involved in that onslaught, neither the INEC officials nor those who came to collect had arrived.

PVC Centre Attacked, Security man killed

At Afor Oru in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area Headquarters, gunmen also attacked a PVC Collection Centre.

The PVC’s were packed inside a room in the  Chairman’s Guest House within the headquarters of the Council.

Not seeing INEC officials or anybody, they bundled the security man into their car, brought him down at the gate, and shot him dead.

On the way, they accosted one man, John Onuoha, a brother to a late popular politician, Chief PC Onuoha and double-crossed his vehicle. Asked where he was going to, he told them he was on his way to his house. They searched his car, saw nothing but a bottle of perfume. They made away with it, and told him he was lucky as he would have been killed if he was going to pick his PVC.

At the LGA Headquarters, they left the PVC’s intact because, they probably did not know they were locked up there.

My Battle With A Rare Disease

Peace Anyiam Osigwe

By Peace Anyiam-Osigwe

On her Birthday in 2021, celebrated AMAA Founder, Poet, Script Writer, Filmmaker, Philanthropist, Entrepreneur, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, MFR, gave an inkling, in writing, into the disease which finally, perhaps, took her life. Titled “God’s Tattooed Tattoo”, she wrote on her  courageous over 10-year struggle with the ill-health. She passed away on January 9, 2023 at the age of 53 years.

My birthday comes along once again; I’m so grateful. Over ten years ago, I started a journey with an auto-immune system problem that deals with skin discolouration and thickening of the skin — a form of fibrosis.

It appeared like a dot on the skin on my hand. My sister, Elvira, noticed it; we thought it was a basic fungal infection, and then we started with different fungal treatments. This was just the beginning of a long journey.

The CHI was on a journey to give me tattoos of His own on my skin. My skin changed colour, going into patches of white. My arms were worse hit, but it didn’t affect my legs. We thought it was vitiligo, but the Dermatologist said it wasn’t.

We were given so many diagnoses, yielding many names like Morphia and more. Doctors from London, India, Cuba, the US, etc., gave different names, and my body was cut up in different places for tests; injections on my butt created a work of art on it.

My whole body became God’s tattoo design. Depression had set in, alongside anger and other issues. There were also a lot of pains, as medication made me feel terrible. Steroids really slowed me down, till a Cuban doctor explained that steroids are not good for the long term. I then started a journey of alternative therapies that included spending weeks at the Ayurvedic center in Kerela, India, becoming vegetarian for a long while.

My Aunty saw me in Church one day and was shocked. She took it upon herself to walk me through the herbal alternative which worked with basically the things the Auryvedic doctor recommended. However, they added Shea butter and there were numerous leaves to be boiled and drank. The Benedictine Monks at Ewu took it up too with oils, herbal mixtures, drugs, etc.

The pigmentation started coming back.

For my late brother Micheal, he needed his sister to fully recover. The thickness of the skin made finding my vein difficult; only Dr. Chiazor could be patient enough to find it. He had to start traveling with us whenever we travelled.

Did I mention I spent six weeks in Israel? But most of my solutions were found on the African continent.

I have regained 85% repigmentation.

I found a doctor in South Africa who finally had a diagnosis — it was. Scleroderma.

There are two types of Progressive Systemic Sclerosis (PSS), sometimes known as just Systemic Sclerosis (SS), and CREST syndrome. Patients with Systemic Scleroderma may experience symptoms that affect the esophagus, intestines, lungs, heart, and kidneys.

CREST syndrome is named after its symptoms: calcinosis (calcium accumulation under the skin), Raynaud phenomenon (redness or blueness of fingers and toes), esophageal dysfunction, sclerodactyly (thickening and tightness of the skin that surrounds the fingers and toes), and telangiectasia (red skin blotches causes by dilated blood vessels).

In addition to the skin symptoms caused by scleroderma, patients may experience joint pain, shortness of breath, wheezing, constipation or diarrhea, bloating, weight loss, heartburn, or eye itching and burning.

With the CHI on my side, I didn’t have the full on. Systemic issues mostly surfaces but we had a Management team some of the best rheumatologists and Natural herb healers have been able to keep me in good health .

Yes, it’s an uncomfortable problem but thankfully, I was able to find people who helped me arrest this illness using orthodox and unorthodox methods.

It has been ten long years of having the CHI at my back. So, when you look at my patches on my skin, that’s my special God’s tattoo on my skin. I have learned to live with the lemons and made lemonade of it.

With the global COVID-19 pandemic, my team was worried — anyone with an immune issue had to be — but looking back, I think I got COVID-19 before all the noise.

On a trip, I noticed the non-stop coughing, shortness of breath, etc. We thought I had a flare-up of Scleroderma, and we applied all the remedies, but the cough and fatigue persisted.

Brother Mathew came to my rescue with some Pax mixtures which were dispatched. He had me on bitter kola, turmeric, and honey. The cough finally disappeared, the back pain was something else, but we had CBD oil to the rescue, and at a point, Moonshine was also part of the medication.

The pandemic took its toll on many of us mentally; we lived in fear, we lost family and friends. We couldn’t attend funerals to commiserate with loved ones who needed a hug.

Loneliness engulfed many, some took their lives as business crashed, and inability to cope with life demands. But in this same pandemic, some goodness appeared.

I had enough time to communicate with the CHI of the Most High. I was able to become extremely grateful for my personal journey.

As my birthday approached, my Dentist said to me, “Peace, talk about your healing.”

My brothers and I were brought to have absolute faith in the CHI of the Most High and at the height of this illness, my late brother, Michael, started saying a set of Psalms and prayers that Daddy always used for us especially Psalm 91.

When he passed, I put the collection of prayers together and published them in a book entitled, On This Rock I Stand.

PDP Advises INEC, Security Agencies On What To Do About Alleged Plan By APC To Disrupt Elections

0

By Ayodele Oni

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that there are plans by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to truncate the general elections by unleashing violence and causing constitutional crisis.

It has therefore called on security agencies to place leaders of the APC on watchlist ahead of the forthcoming elections. a

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, who disclosed this at a media briefing in Abuja, said the February 25th date for Presidential and National Assembly Elections remains sacrosanct.

“The first (of such acts) is the heightening plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to derail the conduct of the 2023 general elections.

“The second is the attempt by the APC to mislead the public by falsely claiming that the PDP has no candidate for Borno Central Senatorial District Election.

“Our Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been following the many furtive narratives being promoted by the APC with the view to blackmail critical election stakeholders to accede to its design to postpone the 2023 general elections, particularly the February 25, 2023 Presidential election.

“Our Party had earlier alerted the nation of a well-oiled plot by the APC to orchestrate security situation and promote circumstances to warrant the postponement of the 2023 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The ultimate intent of the APC is to use such unfounded circumstances to derail the entire electoral process and impose an undemocratic situation on our country.

“The PDP hereby insists without equivocation that the February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly election date is sacrosanct.

“February 25, 2023 date is already locked in for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, the security agencies have given their assurances, the Federal Government has also given its assurance.

“Nigerians are ready for the election and will not accept any postponement of elections under any guise whatsoever.

“The APC and its Presidential Candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu know that they have no chance at all in the coming elections

“They have been rejected by Nigerians because of their multiple failures, recklessness, humongous corruption, violence and continuing infliction of pains, hardship and life-discounting experiences on Nigerians in the last seven and half years.

“Nigerians are not ready to continue with a hopelessly corrupt, miserably incompetent and viciously insensitive political party, the APC, which has mortgaged the future of our country with an accumulated N77 trillion debt as revealed by the Debt Management Office (DMO).”

“The APC and its leaders are desperate to use their doomsday orchestrations to frighten and blackmail INEC to alter the electoral schedule after which the APC will take advantage of the situation to unsettle the general election, foist a constitutional crisis and truncate the nation’s democratic process,

“The PDP therefore charges INEC, as an independent institution not to succumb to the blackmails of the APC, but focus on its preparations and fix its eyes on delivering a free, fair, transparent and credible election on February 25, 2023.

“The PDP also demands that Security Agencies should place APC leaders on watchlist and take urgent steps to halt APC’s implementation of Asiwaju Tinubu’s directives to his party members, as contained in the recently leaked video, to deploy violence and underhand dealings in the 2023 general elections.

“Nigerians are eager to vote on February 25, 2023. They have suffered a lot and cannot wait to kick out the vicious, insensitive and corrupt APC and vote in the PDP and Atiku Abubakar to rescue and rebuild our nation.

“Atiku Abubakar is poised to win the majority of votes cast across the country and secure 25% in all the States of the Federation to emerge President on the very first ballot.

“Those trying to push the run-off narrative or postponement of elections should perish the thought. They should get ready for elections or quit the race.”

Access Bank Restates Expansion Drive After Cancelling Deal With Kenyan Bank

The Herbert Wigwe led Access Holdings, has terminated a deal to acquire a Kenyan based Sidian Bank.

The acquisition agreement was proposed in June last year by the two parties, but the Nigerian Conglomerate said it will no longer proceed with the deal, citing failure on the part of Sidan Bank to satisfy some requirements.

Access Holdings and Sidian Bank had agreed that the Nigerian based financial institution will acquire the 83.4 percent equity stake owned by Centre Investment Plc for the sum of $37 million.

But in a corporate filing to the Nigerian Exchange Limited, NGX, Sunday Ekwochi, Access Corp Company Secretary, the financial giant said it terminated the deal over failure by the Kenyan bank to meet some conditions required to seal the transaction.

The bank, however, stated that the termination will not affect its quest to acquire more banks in the continent as Africa’s leading financial service provider.

Access said, “The completion of the proposed transaction was subject to fulfilment or waiver of certain conditions before the long stop date as defined in the transaction agreement.

“Although regulators have all been supportive in engagements around the transaction, certain conditions precedent needed to prudently complete the transaction have not been met and the parties were unable to reach agreement on the variation of these conditions in a manner to deliver the desired outcome for the parties.

“Consequently, we hereby notify the Nigerian Exchange Ltd and the investing public that Sidian acquisition will no longer be completed by the bank.

“The bank however remains committed to growing its franchise in a safe and sound manner in Kenya and the broader East African community and will continue to explore a variety of organic and inorganic opportunities to grow its market share therein.”

As part of its expansion quest, Access Corp recently secured the French government’s approval to operate Hydrogen, a financial payment service firm which Wigwe said will function as a settlement platform for over 30 percent of intra-African trade.

” The idea is that wherever you are in the world, if you’re making a transfer to anybody across the continent, one out of every three transactions that come into the continent will be settled on Access Bank’s platform,” the Access GMD said.
