“Ayade Collected Fake Certificates” – Donald Duke; Says The Governor  Presents “Obtuse, Stupid Budgets”

0
Donald Duke and Ben Ayade

By Charles Igbo

A former Governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke, has alleged that the incumbent Governor of the State, Professor Ben Ayade, parades fake certificates.

Duke, a two-term Governor of the State, accused Ayade of regressing the State by over 30 years.

Both men were in same Political Party – Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before Ayade dumped the Party for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting in Calabar,  Capital Cross of the State, a couple of days ago, Duke described the Governor as “an acquaintance that amuses me when I an bored.” He said they, in the PDP, made a grievous mistake in 2015 when they “brought him from nowhere” and made him a Governor. He, also, questioned Ayade’s Professorship and said the Governor was collecting fake degrees. “You can stay here and say this is a Professor. Professor of what?”, Duke fired.

Usually calm and collected, Duke did not quite say why he was this angry with the Governor. But he mentioned that Ayade had the temerity to send to him a text message which he dismissed as “nonsense.”

He also dismissed Ayade’s yearly State Budget as “Obtuse and stupid.” He called it “crazy”

Duke: ” I see him (Ayade) as an acquaintance who amuses me when I am bored.

“When we started this journey over 24 years ago, he was somewhere acquiring his fake degrees, fake. You can stand here and say this is a Professor. Professor of what? What has he published?

“You know, we admit something. We made a mistake in 2015, we made a grievous mistake by bringing somebody from nowhere to Governor House, Calabar, and we are paying dearly for it.

“He has regressed this State over 30 years. It is worse than I met it in ’99 (1999). And, he had the temerity to send me a text, telling me such nonsense.

“He is the most cowardly person that has occupied Government House. You know, when you are Governor, you are the Chief Security Officer of the State.

When #EndSARS struck,  he was nowhere to be found. His ADC did not know where he was.

“He says why he is the object of this campaign. Why not? You are going to campaign on your own records. It is a good thing and a blessing that he left PDP and went to where he is.

“They say water finds its level, and Ayade has found his level – the level of non-entity. That’s where he is.

“It is not in my place to interrogate anybody, but I find that  man has ridiculed our State to this level, with obtuse and stupid budgets.

“You don’t raise more than N100 billion, you say you are budgeting N1.3 trillion. Are you crazy? Then, you give it all kinds of fanciful names. Then, you have the temerity to talk to me because of politics.”

It is not known why Duke said Ayade “was collecting fake certificates.” A Google search shows that Governor  Ayade is well read, a scholar. He earned a B.Sc.(Honours)  (1984-1998), an M.Sc in Microbiology (1989-1990) and a PhD in Environmental Microbiology, (1990-1994), all from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He won the best Doctoral Dissertation Award in Environmental Microbiology.

Ayade, also, has an MBA(2000-2002) from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and a degree in Law – LLB. He was a lecturer at the Delta State University where he was appointed a Professor.

The Governor, also, invented a Sewage Treatment Plant powered by Solar Energy from his work in Ground Water Remediation In Nigeria.

Before he was elected Governor in 2015, Professor Ben Ayade was a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Commission met on, Saturday, 28th January 2023 a day after its meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal capital Territory, Abuja and deliberated on a number of issues, including the reports from RECs on the ongoing collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in its 774 Local Government Offices nationwide.

It will be recalled that at the meeting with RECs on Friday, 27th January 2023, the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu indicated that the Commission will not hesitate to consider additional measures to ensure that all citizens have ample opportunity to collect their PVCs ahead of the General Election.

Having reviewed reports from all the States of the Federation, the Commission is encouraged by the progress made so far as more Nigerians troop out daily to collect their PVCs.

Arising from reports from the various States and discussions with Resident Electoral Commissioners, the Commission has decided to further extend PVC collection in all its Local Government Offices nationwide by an additional one week. The ongoing collection of PVCs nationwide will therefore continue and end on 5th February 2023. This is the second time the Commission is extending PVC collection nationwide and this will be the last extension of the exercise. Collection period has further been extended by an additional two hours and will start at 9am and end at 5pm daily including Saturdays and Sundays.

Those that engaged in double and multiple registration should not bother visiting any of the Commission’s Offices as the Commission did not print their PVCs. The Commission will continue to act on all reported cases of sharp practices during the ongoing PVC collection and will ensure that no Nigerian is disadvantaged and all those that carried out valid registration have an opportunity of collecting their PVCs.

The Commission once again salutes the patience and doggedness of citizens.

George Obiozor: Prof, You Let Ndigbo Down

Amadi and Obiozor

By Willie Amadi

I spoke to Prof a few weeks after he lost his house and library to the arson that kept him miserable till he passed away. During my conversations with him I condoled with him on the sad incident but with emphasis on his library and literary works. I simply reminded him of the book by Prof. Wole Soyinka, “The Man Died” and admonished him not to die too. He said “Willie my good friend. Am I still living with my life burnt and I replied yes because those knowledge are still in your brain, whole being and also in the public space and the internet. He replied “Good man but I can’t touch or see the knowledge again” I told him that if he has a spiritual eye he will see them and he laughed and finally said “All these acquisitions and struggles are really vanity but that it was good he enjoyed the vanity before it became vanity“  We laughed and I said Prof idi very correct and he replied “Good man. Thank you for inspiring me and I will not let you down “

But Prof, you let me down. You let Ohaneze down. You let your beloved brother, Hope Uzodinma your great ally down. You let the academia down. You let the Diplomatic world down. You let IMO people down and finally dealt a devastating blow to your encyclopaedia and uterine brother UCHE down !

Your immediate family are in shock and disbelief. Prof why didn’t you depart after your  August 15th 2023 birthday if you must, to afford us the last opportunity to celebrate you and bid you farewell ?

To my good friend Uche, be strong and be more focused going forward. Stop thinking of what will make Prof. happy in death. He was a happy man and a jolly good fellow with incredible sense of humour and jokes while on earth. Age was never a barrier in sharing jokes. We shared a few and he always laugh from his heart. He was fond of me and loved me and I appreciated that privilege of friendship from a literary giant. Today Ugwumba Orlu has gone home with his pride after an eventful life. His legacies will surely speak for him as we allow him rest in peace profound.

May the soul of Prof. George Obiozor and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of GOD rest in peace, Amen.

Peter Obi in Borno State

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi and his Deputy, Datti Yusuf Baba-Ahmed continued their round the country national campaigns at the weekend with the Obidient team’s arrival to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital armed with solution to the insecurity that has ravaged the State for over a decade.

Obi told critical stakeholders in the state that included women and youths that if elected, he and Datti his Vice, will find lasting solution to the insecurity in the state and the country once and for all.

He noted that previous leadership failed to tackle the insecurity in the state because they were not addressing it from the root but stressed that he and Datti will squarely tackle it from the source.

The LP Presidential standard bearer said that any solution to security that is not tackling the youth unemployment and the injustice in the system will not make success in ending insecurity.

Obi said that his administration will restore the business glory of Maiduguri, take people back to their houses and farms where they should be.

“Sambisa forest that the terrorists have used as a base from where they torment this state will be turned into a farm land to produce”, Obi said

“Through our Consumption to Production policy, we will engage the youths, pull people out of poverty and return the state to its original position as the commercial hub of the region.

The former Anambra State Governor told the people that the future of the youths is infinitely intertwined with that of the country and the forthcoming election is about Nigeria youths and their desires to take back their country.

Obi further explained that the coming  election is an existential one because it’s going to change the dynamics of our political life as is going to be based on competence, character, antecedents of prospective leaders and their capabilities both in physical and mental state.

“This election is not going to be as in the past when they come with tribal and ethnic sentiments to deceive us, it’s not even anybody’s turn but that of you Nigerian youths to take back your country”

The LP Presidential candidate said that he and Datti are coming with rich private sector background and will bring them to bear if voted in as they will see education as an investment not a social responsibility.

On the ravaged war situation in the state, Obi said that it would be taken care of with massive infrastructural development for the ravaged areas.

Obi and his team also paid courtesy visit to the palace of shehu of Borno

Shehu Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi

The Vice Presidential candidate Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmad who also spoke in various outings in Maiduguri assured the people that he and Obi will turn the arable land in the North into wealth.

The National Chairman of the LP Bar Julis Abure also assured the people of Borno state that only Labour Party administration under Obi and Datti will unlock the potentials of the North and tackle the insecurity.

By Ayodele Oni

The presidency has waded into crisis and confusion over the change in colour of Nigerian currency, as it gives reason for the currency swap.

President Muhammadu Buhari, assured that government will ensure that citizens are unharmed in their businesses and no disruption is caused to the entire supply chain arising from the currency swap due to end two days time.

He was reacting on Saturday to reports of long queues of people waiting for hours for their turn to deposit old notes and get new ones, triggering public anger and opposition’s criticism.

President Buhari reiterated that the currency changes were aimed at people hoarding illicit funds and not the common man, and that it had become necessary to prevent counterfeits, corruption, and terrorist funding. This, he assured, will stabilize and strengthen the economy.

The statement, signed by Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesman, states that “Government is taking note that the poorest section of society is facing hardship as they often keep hard cash at home for various expenses.

“President Buhari gave strong assurances that the government will not leave them to their own fate.”

He reiterated that a number of initiatives by the Central Bank and all commercial banks are underway to speed up distribution of the new notes and do all that is necessary to forestall cash squeeze and chaos.

Ademola Adeleke

By Ayodele Oni

Reactions continue to trail the Election Petition judgement on Osun state governorship poll, with supporters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress, (APC) protesting against and in support of the verdict.

The tribunal had declared former Governor Gboyega Oyetola winner of July election which the National Electoral Commission, (INEC) had earlier given to Ademola Adeleke of the PDP.

As he continues to register his dissatisfaction over the Tribunal’s verdict, Governor Ademola Adeleke, has asked the INEC not to issue a Certificate of Return to Gboyega Oyetola as ordered by the tribunal.

It was gathered that Adeleke made the request following a judgement by the election tribunal.

Although, there was a split in the judgement, the majority judgement of two judges against one ordered that the Certificate of Return should be withdrawn from Adeleke and issued to Adegboyega Oyetola.

The majority judgement which was read by the Chairman, Justice Tertse Kume said Oyetola scored the majority lawful votes of 314, 921 against Adeleke’s 290, 266.

But in a letter to the electoral umpire Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, Adeleke urged INEC not to issue the certificate of return to Oyetola pending the outcome of his appeal.

Adeleke remains Governor until the final disposition of the petition by the apex court.

The letter, signed by Hashim Abioye, lawyer to Adeleke, reads, “As Solicitors to the 2nd Respondent, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, we humbly write to notify you about the dissatisfaction of the 2nd Respondent with the majority decision of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivered on January 27, 2023.

“The 2nd Respondent has applied for a certified true copy of the judgement to enable him pursue his appeal against the said judgement.

“In the light of the foregoing, we humbly ask you to apply the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, by not issuing any certificate (of) return to the 1st petitioner in the petition pending the outcome of the appeal which we are confident will be favourable to our client.”

Osun Tribunal Judgement: APC Says Victory For Democracy; PDP Fumes, Vows To Reclaim Victory

By Ayodele Oni

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have reacted to the verdict of the Election Petition Tribunal for Osun state, which annulled the election of Governor Ademola Adeleke and declared former Governor Gboyega Oyetola as winner of last year’s July election.

In its reaction, APC congratulated Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, its candidate in the election  on his victory at the Election Tribunal.

According to the party, the tribunal’s decision is an affirmation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s broad-based electoral reforms, which have seen the electoral umpire use more technology to expose over-voting and other election rigging methods.

In a statement issued Friday in Abuja, the party’s spokesman, Felix Morka, stated that the tribunal’s verdict represents a victory for democracy and the rule of law.

He described it as a categorical affirmation of the Osun electorate’s will as expressed at the polls.

“The peaceful conduct of the Osun governorship election and effective recourse procedures are eloquent testament to our Party’s commitment to bequeathing a legacy of credible elections, and independent and fair dispensation of electoral justice.

“The Tribunal’s findings and verdict on the pivotal question of over-voting yet again underscores the massive significance of the programme of electoral reform, and new and efficient technologies implemented by the APC-administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The National Secretariat of the PDP, in its comment, rejected the judgement, describing it as an attempt to nullify the mandate freely given to it and its Candidate, Governor Adeleke by the people of Osun State in the July 16, 2022 Governorship election.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement in Abuja, on Friday said, “The judgment of the Tribunal is contrary to the Will of the people of Osun State which was expressed by the overwhelming votes cast for our Party and Candidate at the election.

“The July 16, 2022 Governorship election in Osun State was adjudged by Local and International Observers to be free, fair, transparent and clearly won by the PDP and our Candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke in confirmation of the wishes and aspiration of the people.

“The Will of the people of Osun State as expressed by electing Governor Adeleke must be respected. As a law-abiding Party, the PDP will explore all available legal means to restore the victory of our Party.

“The PDP charges the people of Osun State to be calm, remain at alert and continue to support Governor Adeleke as we restate our confidence in the Institution of the Judiciary to dispense justice in this matter at the Appellate Court.”

Hope Uzodimma

Governor Hope Uzodinma has called on the Imo State Government Liaison Officers from Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri Zones to be courageous and take charge of their polling units and wards, noting that those who instill fears in them are enemies of the State.

The  Governor who spoke on Thursday when he met with them at their Secretariat at Mbari Street, in Owerri, reminded the officers who are mostly youths that “the future of every country is dependent on the young generation.”

The Governor told them that they are the Government’s Cabinet Members at the grassroots because “Government is not what one person can manage alone,” reminding them once more that they are the Government he is seeing in their different Local Government Areas.

Governor Uzodimma also enjoined them to “go home, call meetings, know who are the members of your polling units, from time to time appreciate them and inform them of the importance of having good government.”

The Governor assured them that in no time “insecurity in the State will be a thing of the past” and that his Government will do everything within its powers to stop the insecurity in the State.

“Insecurity in Imo State will be a thing of the past, everything will be done to achieve it, even if it is matching force for force.”

Furthermore, he informed them that the forthcoming elections will be done peacefully and that the APC will win in all places in the State.

Governor Uzodimma reminded the Liaison officers and the two-member nominees of every polling unit that they have a role to play to enable the government move forward and for the betterment of all and insisted that as GLOs they are to be in charge of government projects and infrastructure in their communities.

Charging them to be the eyes of the government in their different areas, he said “governance is by partnering with the people towards the development of the State.”

The Governor assured them that he will rebuild government schools such that they can compete with private schools in the State and promised not to disappoint Imo people as their Governor.

On the facilities the GLOs will need to work effectively, he promised to provide them, emphasizing that he desires that the people be part of what is happening in the government.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chief Political Adviser/Head Political Bureau,  Barr. Enyinna Onuegbu said that “the essence of the meeting is to have a roll call and identify the GLOs one by one to ensure that what they have in the list corresponds with those in attendance.”

Onuegbu further informed that the GLOs are drawn from the different polling units from Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri zones.

Meanwhile, after the meeting, the Governor proceeded to inspect the on-going MCC/Uratta road under construction where he expressed satisfaction over the progress of work, especially the quality and pace maintained by the contractors.

He assured that at the rate the construction work is progressing, the road will be ready for use in the next one month.

Governor Uzodimma described the mood of the residents of the area  as “the definition of democracy,” and regretted that enemies of democracy and the State as well as those who thought they will bring government down are not happy with the achievements so far recorded.

He pointed out that the ability of his government to achieve so much in road infrastructure and in other areas of development and at the same time, fight insecurity, is simply a factor of prudence.  “That is prudent management of the available resources at the disposal of the State under my watch.”

Obi Thrills University Of Abuja Students, Says Nigeria Must Stop Manufacturing Poverty

Peter Obi at University of Abuja

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Friday in Abuja thrilled the students and staff of the University of Abuja with his facts and figures of where Nigeria is, and where it will be if he is voted in as President on February 25, 2023.

Obi, who was a special guest at a TownHall engagement organized by the University’s Leadership Center, said that all the problems of the country, whether on economy, education, health, politics etc revolves around political leadership that has failed the country over the years.

The LP Presidential flag bearer, who spoke for over two hours while standing, said leadership failures over the years and refusing to do the right thing at the right time is responsible for the barrage of woes in our system.

He told the cheering students that the reason his manifesto is centered on turning the country from consumption to production is to stop the country from  recycling  poverty.

“The only thing this country is manufacturing is poverty. And Datti and I are coming to change all that because no country grows my consumption, without production.”

He said that poverty is increasing in Nigeria because we are not investing enough in education and health which is what makes the difference between a rich and a poor country.

Assuring the students that all that will stop under his watch, Obi noted that “life expectancy globally should be about 72 years but it’s 55 years in Nigeria because of the growing level of poverty in Nigeria, our country that is so blessed.

“This country should not be poor given its abundance natural and Human Resources.”

The Presidential front runner remarked that he and Datti are coming to halt the drift and position the country as giant of Africa that we all profess.

The former Anambra state Governor said that securing the country remains their number one priority because nothing, no matter how laudable, can be achieved without a secured environment, pointing out that his Presidency will negotiate with agitators who are amenable and deal with those who may be recalcitrant and uncooperative because there can only be one government at a time in a country.

He also spoke on a number of issues arising from the questions from the staff and students at the well attended Town Hall meeting, ranging from power, corruption and subsidy removal.

On the allegation made by one of the candidates that fuel scarcity and redesigning of the naira are deliberately created to sabotage the forthcoming election, Obi said that he runs his campaigns on issues and does not delve in candidate’s position but noted that since they are inside they may know what others do not know.

On removal of subsidy, he said that if given the opportunity, he will remove subsidy the first day in office because they have turned it into a huge racket of corruption which he and Datti will stop.

Obi told the jubilant students that the next election is about them and they must seize the opportunity to take back their country by insisting that character, competence and antecedents guide their decision, not religion, tribe and region or my turn because in truth it’s the turn of the teeming Nigerian youths who are wasting.

Earlier in the well attended Town Hall meeting, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, explained the motive of the gathering saying that intellectual engagement is the basis of political leadership.

The Vice Chancellor said that those aspiring to govern us must be scrutinized, made to answer questions and wondered why Nigeria is where they are if not for poor political leadership which is everything.
