Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, the apex socio-political body of the Niger Delta has waded Into the face off between Governor Siminialayi Fubara of Rivers State and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, which has led to political turmoil.

In a decisive move to halt the deepening political crisis in Rivers State, PANDEF has officially launched a high-level peace and reconciliation intervention, calling Wike, and Fubara ro sheathe their swords and rise above political rivalry and assume their historic responsibility as pillars of peace, unity and inclusive reform.

The intervention, led by a distinguished Reconciliation Committee chaired by former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Godwin Agabi, SAN, commenced in Port Harcourt with an urgent appeal for dialogue, restraint, and statesmanship, as political tension continues to threaten governance, security, and economic stability in the state.

Agabi addressed the Media after the meeting, describing the Rivers crisis as “a defining moment” that requires wisdom, humility and courageous leadership. He stressed that Rivers State, as the economic nerve centre of the Niger Delta, cannot afford prolonged political hostilities that weaken institutions, erode public confidence and distract from development.

“This is not a contest of personalities; it is about the destiny of Rivers State. Leaders must choose peace over pride, dialogue over division, and reform over revenge,” Agabi declared.

The committee, made up of respected statesmen, traditional leaders, legal luminaries and elder statesmen of the Niger Delta, is engaging a wide spectrum of stakeholders including political leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, youth organisations and women’s bodies, in what PANDEF described as a comprehensive peace architecture designed to rebuild trust, restore political cooperation and entrench inclusive governance.

The Niger Delta Apex Group, however, warned that the lingering crisis has already begun to stall development programmes, strain security structures and unsettle investor confidence, with grave implications for the state’s economy and the wider Niger Delta region.

PANDEF appealed to Wike and Fubara, and urged both leaders to subordinate personal grievances to the collective good, noting that their cooperation is indispensable to any meaningful reconciliation process.

“History has placed before you a rare opportunity to redefine leadership through peace, inclusion and reform. Rivers people expect nothing less,” the forum stated.

Political analysts opine that the PANDEF initiative represents the most credible intervention since the crisis erupted, given the moral authority of the forum and the calibre of personalities driving the negotiations.

While some see the effort as a potential turning point capable of resetting Rivers State’s political trajectory and restoring its reputation as a stable hub of commerce and governance.

While Edo Arrests Innocent Students, Kidnappers Operate Freely – CAPPA

Monday Okpebholo - Governor of Edo State
Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State.

By Akinwale Kasali

The Edo State Government has come under strong criticism over the unlawful arrest and incarceration of 52 Students of Ambrose Alli University, AAU), Ekpoma, in Edo State.

Civil Society Group, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa, CAPPA condemned in strong words the development, and described it as an assault on the fundamental human rights of the students.

The students were arrested in connection with a protest against rising kidnappings in the area.

CAPPA in a statement signed by its Communications Officer, Robert Egbe, Communication Officer, said the organization has demanded their immediate and unconditional release.

CAPPA described the remand of the students at the Ubiaja Correctional Centre on charges of malicious damage and robbery as “absurd, unjust, and morally bankrupt.”

The organization accused the Edo State Government and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force of turning State violence on victims while kidnappers continue to operate freely.

It was reported in the Media following an alleged eyewitness account that Security Officers carried out a midnight raid on Student Hostels in the early hours of Sunday, at about 3 a.m.

Armed Officers were alleged to have forced their way into rooms, dragged students from their beds, and arrested them in a sweeping operation that threw the campus into fear.

Some of those detained were reportedly unconnected to the protest and were taken away in their sleepwear.

The protest itself, which took place on Saturday, January 10, 2026, was a desperate cry against the wave of abductions plaguing Ekpoma, the headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area.

Students, alongside community members, had marched to demand basic security after repeated abductions near hostels and along school routes.

Just a day after the protest, another kidnapping was caught on CCTV, reinforcing claims that the area had become very unsafe.

CAPPA said the state’s response exposed a warped sense of judgment.

“Instead of hunting kidnappers who operate openly and violently, the government is punishing innocent victims who simply asked for protection,” the statement said.

Zikora Ibeh, Assistant Executive Director of CAPPA, said peaceful protest remains a constitutionally guaranteed right in Nigeria and a basic tool for holding power to account.

“These students are victims twice over. First by kidnappers and organised gangs, then by the state.

“Young people now risk abduction on their way to school and violence where they live. This situation damages learning and scars mental health. Female students face even higher risks, including sexual violence. The cost is long-term and devastating.”

CAPPA warned that students now live under siege.

“Journeys to school are becoming more and more dangerous. Hostels have become targets.

“Learning is collapsing under fear and trauma. Yet leaders hide behind privilege while ordinary people pay the price,” the statement noted.

The organization expressed solidarity with the detained students and all Nigerians living under insecurity.

CAPPA called on the Edo State government and security agencies to drop all charges and release the 52 students immediately and also demanded an independent investigation into the arrests and accountability for abuses recorded during the raid.

“Jailing frightened students will not stop kidnappings. Only political will and genuine commitment to public safety will,” CAPPA said.

As the Super Eagles of Nigeria file out for their Semi Final clash against the Atlas Lions of Morocco, host of the the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON, Championship, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Musa Gusau has dismissed fears of possible biased officiating.

Gusau quashed insinuations of possible biased officiating against the backdrop of widespread fears among Nigerian players and fans across the world that the match officials could blatantly or surreptitiously work in favour of the host nation, which is looking for a second AFCON title after its maiden gong 50 years ago.

“Last summer, we were here in Morocco, for the Women Africa Cup of Nations, and we played the host nation in the Final, even coming from two goals behind to achieve victory.

“There is nothing to fear. This is the highest level of football on the African continent, and the officials know that CAF as well as the whole world is watching, and will not do anything untoward.”

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles camp continues to radiate confidence and self-belief ahead of the encounter, as the players keep strictly and professionally to their daily schedule at the Hotel Rihab and at the training ground – Complexe Sportif Mohamed VI.

The only time Nigeria and Morocco’s senior national teams have clashed in Morocco’s administrative capital, Rabat, Nigeria dug their feet into the ground to earn a scoreless draw, win the ensuing penalty shootout and secure qualification to the 14th Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cote d’Ivoire.

Date was Saturday, 28th August 1983. Two weeks earlier, in Benin City, both teams had ended the first leg match 0-0. The return leg took place in Rabat, with Coach Adegboye Onigbinde making a number of changes to the squad that featured in Benin City.

Goalkeeper, Late Peter Rufai came in for Wilfred Agbonavbare, and Kingsley Paul, Amos Edoseghe, Anthony Edward, Segun Odegbami and Sunday Daniel came in for Charles Osuji, Henry Nwosu, Rafiu Yusuf, Dehinde Akinlotan and Tarila Okorowanta.

Coach José ‘Mehdi’ Faria, the Brazilian minder of the Atlas Lions, stuck to his regular group, including goalkeeper Badou Ezzaki, Mustapha El Haddaoui, Abdelaziz Bouderbala, Mohamed Timoumi, Abdelmajid Lamriss, Mustapha El Biyaz, Noureddine Bouyahyaoui and Khaled Labied. A closely-fought battle ended 0-0, necessitating a penalty shootout.

Nigeria won 4-3 to qualify for the AFCON finals in Cote d’Ivoire, where she emerged runner-up.

As the Super Eagles file out to the turf of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Wednesday, they will remember they had never lost a match to the Lions in Rabat.

Feelers from the Atlas Lions camp reveal that the players are in trepidation of the impact that Nigerian midfielder Alexander Iwobi can have on  tonight’s game.

Iwobi, who has become the Super Eagles Midfield generalissimo supplied 22 line-breaking passes in the Round of 16 game against Mozambique (which Nigeria won 4-0) and 14 against Algeria’s Desert Foxes in Saturday’s quarter final duel in Marrakech.

Nigeria won both games, scoring six goals and conceding none.

The 29-year-old, who debuted for Nigeria against the Democratic Republic of Congo in a friendly in Belgium on 8th October 2015, also supplied the assists for Nigeria’s first two goals of the competition, in the 2-1 win over Tanzania in Fés on 23rd December.

He will earn his 96th cap for the Super Eagles on Wednesday night.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of measures to encourage workers, has announced elevation of some staff of the Federal Capital Development Authority, (FCDA) and Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, gave approval for the immediate promotion of over 2,000 workers of the FCDA and FCTA.

The promotion was sequel to the examinations held from Tuesday, November 25 to Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, said on Wednesday that the over 2,000 civil servants cut across 165 cadres.

He described the promotion as a clear demonstration of the FCT Minister’s commitment to staff welfare and career progression, promising that promotion examinations will be conducted as and when due.

The Chairman urged civil servants to begin early preparation for the 2025 and 2026 promotions, saying “as only diligent and hardworking staff will be promoted.”

He reiterated that the commission will continue to conduct promotion examinations, using the Computer-Based Test (CBT), adding that this will deepen the newly introduced digital platform for promotion examinations that was approved by the FCT Minister.

Olubadan Clarifies Alleged Snub Of Alaafin Of Oyo

By Akinwale Kasali

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Ladoja kas debunked the viral report that he intentionally ignored the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade I, at a ceremony.

Making clarifications, the former Oyo State Governor said that he will never deliberately snub the Alaafin of Oyo. He insisted that the incident was neither intentional nor disrespectful.

The former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria described the incident as a misunderstanding that has been blown out of proportion, stressing that his actions were guided by circumstance rather than any form of royal discourtesy.

“There was no intention whatsoever,” the Olubadan said firmly.

“What happened was not deliberate. It has been misinterpreted, especially on social media.”

According to the Olubadan, his movement at the event was influenced by protocol and timing, as he arrived slightly late and attempted to take his seat quietly without disrupting proceedings.

“When I go late to a place, I try to bring good news.

“At the mosque, when prayers are ongoing, you wait until they form a line and then you join appropriately. I was simply trying to take my seat before anyone would say I could not move again.”

Speaking further, the Monarch said that his seat was located between designated zones, which required him to pass through some sections of the hall.

“By the time I returned, I discovered that other dignitaries had already moved, prompting him to retrace his steps.

“My seat was sandwiched between Soun of Ogbomosho and Alaafin. I had to pass through some people to get there. I didn’t make any decision to avoid or ignore anyone. Why should I?” he asked.

Oba Ladoja expressed concern over what he described as deliberate mischief by some commentators, noting that selective video clips circulating online do not reflect the full sequence of events.

“If you watch the full video, you will see me greeting people, including the governor,” he said.

“But social media has a way of taking things out of context”, he said.

In an interview with Daily Independent Newspaper, Oba Ladoja was asked

whether he had reached out to address any perceived grievances arising from the incident.

He responded by saying that communication had been made, dismissing claims of tension or offence.

“I don’t think anyone was being offensive, and I don’t see the issue as an insult to anybody,” he said.

Beyond the controversy, the Olubadan used the opportunity to restate his broader vision of unity and social development, particularly among younger generations.

“My goal is to unite the present generation and those coming after us.

“We must raise standards, especially in education, and focus on what truly brings progress to our society.”

The Monarch’s clarification comes amid intense online debate over royal protocol and perceived rivalries among traditional institutions in the South West,  a discourse many observers believe distracts from the stabilising role of traditional rulers in governance and social cohesion.

Detained Students: Gov. Okpebholo Meets Edo Varsity Union Leadership

0
Governor Monday Okpebholo

By Ayodele Oni

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has assured that every student among suspects being detained in connection with Ekpoma Protest will be released.

Fifty two suspects arrested in connection with last Saturday’s anti kidnapping protest at the university community were detained on the order of a Benin High Court.

Governor Okpebholo had, on Tuesday evening, met with the leadership of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, where issues surrounding the disturbance, arrests and security concerns were discussed at length.

The governor again made it clear that the recent unrest in Ekpoma the administrative headquarters of Esan West local government area was not organised by students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), describing the incident as a criminal act carried out by non-students hiding around the institution to foment trouble and extort law-abiding students.

According to the Governor, intelligence available to the Edo State Government shows that the incident was orchestrated by a group identifying themselves as the “Ambrose Alli Comrade Community,” made up of individuals who are no longer students but loiter around the school environment for unlawful activities.

“I have met with the SUG President of AAU Ekpoma. We had a very lengthy discussion, and as I have consistently said, this was not a students’ protest.

“These are people who are no longer students but are just hanging around the school, causing trouble and extorting students.

We will put an end to that,” the Governor said.

Okpebholo further assured the SUG leadership that any genuine students who may have been arrested in the course of restoring order would be identified and released without delay.

“For students who were probably arrested, we will look into it and get them released to the SUG President.

“That is a promise I made, and I will do it as quickly as possible. The protest was not theirs. In fact, it was not a protest at all; it was an avenue to loot,” he added.

The Governor also dismissed claims of kidnapping linked to the incident, describing them as false and stage-managed to mislead the public and create ethnic tension.

“The kidnapping they are talking about is fake. It was stage-managed. They were arranging to kidnap and release themselves. They even went as far as killing someone, which is the most painful part “

Governor Okpebholo condemned the burning of markets and destruction of property in Ekpoma, warning that anyone, regardless of political affiliation, found sponsoring or using hoodlums to destabilise Edo communities would be brought to justice.

“I don’t care whether you are a politician or not. If you are using people to destroy our land and economy, we will go after you.

“We know ourselves, and we will bring those responsible to book to ensure justice for our people,” he added.

He emphasized that the Edo State Government has nothing against AAU students, stressing that the institution remains closed and that there were no arrests within the university campus.

Reaffirming the students’ position, the SUG President, Osadebamen Ehizogie Michael, said it was unfortunate that attempts were being made to link the unrest to the student community.

“It is pitiable that some people want to blame what happened, on students. We are here to formally debunk that students did not organise any protest.

“His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, has been in touch with us and has assured us that any students among those arrested will be released,” the SUG President stated.

Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Ambrose Alli University, Prof. Andrew Eromonsele, confirmed that no arrests were made within the university campus, further distancing the institution from the unrest.

Uzodimma To Establish Nigeria’s First Robotic Surgical Centre In Imo

Uzodimma To establish Robotic Surgical Centre
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and Prof. Kingsley Ekwueme of IDCL Surgicals Limited after signing of the pact to establish Robotic Surgical Centre in Owerri, Imo State at the Government House Owerri... Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

Ahead of January 15 when he would have spent a total of six years in office, Governor Hope Uzodimma early Tuesday, January 13, 2026, took another major step aimed at revolutionalising healthcare delivery in Nigeria at large and Imo State in particular, signing a pact with IDCL Surgicals Limited to establish the first Robotic Surgical Centre in the country.

Through the State’s central  health management organ – Heartland Hospital Management Corporation Limited – the Imo State Government under Governor Uzodimma had reached the landmark agreement with IDCL Surgicals Limited to pioneer a Robotic Surgical Centre and manage specialist hospitals across the State.

Led by Professor Kingsley Ekwueme, a foremost pioneering Consultant in Urological and Robotic Surgery, IDCL Surgicals Limited brings expertise to this groundbreaking initiative.

The Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) which was signed at Government House Owerri in the wee hours of Tuesday, signifies a major stride towards advancing specialised, technology-driven healthcare services in Imo State and beyond.

The proposed Robotic Surgical Centre aims to provide cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedures utilising advanced DaVinci robotic systems; as the  state-of-the-art technology promises enhanced surgical precision, reduced recovery times, and significantly improved patient outcomes.

During the signing ceremony, Governor Uzodimma emphasised his administration’s commitment to attracting strategic investments and fostering public-private partnerships aimed at modernising healthcare delivery. He envisions positioning Imo State as a regional hub for advanced medical services and medical tourism.

In addition to treating patients, he said the Robotic Surgical Centre will serve as a research and training facility for medical professionals throughout Imo State and Nigeria.

“Under the partnership, Heartland Hospital Management Corporation Limited will oversee hospital administration and clinical service management, while IDCL Surgicals Limited handles technical aspects such as infrastructure, equipment procurement, and operational support.”

Governor Uzodimma reiterated that this initiative “aligns with his broader vision of strengthening the State’s healthcare system, reducing outbound medical tourism, creating skilled employment opportunities, and ensuring that Imo people have access to world-class surgical care locally.”

Earlier in his remarks, the head of the delegation and pioneer Nigeria Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon, Professor Kingsley Ekwueme, described the project as a “landmark initiative and the first of its kind in Nigeria.”

He praised the Governor for his visionary leadership and commitment to quality healthcare, notably highlighting the enrollment of over 1.5 million Imo indigenes in the free Imo State Health Insurance Scheme.

With a promise of readiness and commitment to the timely completion of the project, Professor Ekwueme expressed confidence that the Robotic Surgical Centre will significantly enhance the health and wellbeing of citizens while positively impacting the socio-economic development of Imo State.

The Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmos Iwu, the Chief of Staff, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Paul Obinatu, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu, Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Dr. Chimezie Amadi, the Managing Director of Heartland Hospital Management Corporation Limited, Dr.Emmanuel Ogueri, the Technical Adviser to the Governor, Dr. Bola Adigun were among those who  joined the Governor and Prof. Ekwueme at the signing ceremony.

Why Uzodimma Shouldn’t Slow Down After Six Years

0
Oguwike Nwachuku and Hope Uzodimma

By Oguwike Nwachuku

On January 15, 2026, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State would have spent a cumulative of six years in office, having been sworn into that exaulted office on January 15, 2020.

His first tenure came to a glorious end in the midnight of January 14, 2024, paving the way for the commencement of his second tenure on January 15, 2024 when he took another oath of office to serve as our Governor.

To the glory of God, he has already done two years into his second tenure, with no indication he is ready to slow down the pace of his activities as a Governor already on his second tenure the way most Governors in their second “missionary journey” behave.

Going by Governor Uzodimma’s giant strides so far in six years which everyone in and outside the State has acknowledged and applauded, many politically exposed characters would have loved him to sit back and be involved in what I call political reconnaissance, since he is not seeking reelection.

But how wrong would they be as we will discover shortly?

First, Uzodimma has shown beyond any fig of doubt that he is not the usual Nigerian politician, nor does he belong to the genre of such Nigerian politicians, who delight in shortchanging the people, the electorate, who actually gave the Governors the mandate to lead them.

Secondly, Uzodimma has mastered the application of the responsibility of the occupant of the office of the Governor so well, such that it will be an aberration for anyone to think that whoever occupies the office must be persons who show little seriousness when it comes to service to the people.

Thirdly, the passion with which Uzodimma approaches his duty as Governor will speak volumes if he decides to lower his governance guard, even if for a second, because the people are already familiar with his intentional  and yet compassionate approach to governance vis a vis issues that affect them directly.

Politics apart, those who were familiar with the State of Imo in January 15, 2020 when Governor Uzodimma took over the mantle of leadership, and the controversy that ensued then and now, if they have conscience, will, without blinking an eyelid, return a verdict of an Imo State that has risen from the ashes inexplicable decadence years back to that of a beautiful and yet, competitive entity, East of the Niger.

If the assessors are indigenes of Imo, they will be proud to say they are from the Heartland State, and if they are Nigerians, glad will they be to identify with an Imo State whose Governor took from almost ground zero in 2020 in virtually all sectoral classification and brought to national and even international limelight within a period of just six years.

Indeed, in six years under review, Uzodimma has caused a quiet revolution to take place in Imo State. The revolution is such that it is doubtful if those he assembled since 2020 to be part of the implementation of his programmes had the faintest of idea about what was up the sleeves of this enigmatic leader of human and material resources.

From road to other physical infrastructure, healthcare delivery system, education, sports, women affairs/social welfare, digital/technology economy, power, commerce/industries, security, housing, mining, transportation, agriculture, environment, information, rural department, judiciary, name it, Uzodimma’s governance impact is felt.

Infact, there is deluge of tangibles and intangibles that define the characteristics of Imo State of this moment, courtesy of the administration of our hard working, humble, caring, God-fearing, empathetic, generous, amiable and loyal Governor Uzodimma.

How about his politics which is without bitterness? Uzodimma is always comfortable building bridges between the political elite and the low level cadre of his Party – the All Progressives Congress – and in such a manner that anywhere he goes, his name reverberates in the ears of all who come in contact with him like the sound of a volcano on eruption.

His social standing not withstanding, he delights in seeing himself as the middleman between the old generation politicians and the younger ones, often galvanising activities that bring everyone together to look at issues from the point of common interest. What Governor Uzodimma does with the political class he also carries out with the business and economy class, all for the good of Imo State, her people, and the society at large.

Uzodimma lives his name in politics as in business, constantly investing in what is necessary for public good and making the necessary sacrifices, often humongous, most of which his associates can never dream of.

Is it therefore a surprise that he is regarded as the Governor General by his Party leadership down East and by extension, the South South and beyond?

But are we surprised that Governor Uzodimma is setting the pace in leadership in Imo State, in the South East, and in Nigeria?

Tell me one Governor in the country today who was fully prepared for leadership and governance, I will show you Hope Uzodimma. Obviously, something must stand on something.

From January 15, 2020 till date, Uzodimma has been implementing programmes and policies that are not a product of impulse,  fluke or a recourse to accidental hallucination of ill-prepared and poorly thought out ideas that will not stand the test of time when subjected to critical scientific analysis.

Not one single programme he implemented  from 2020 till date was a product of accidental ideological discharge the way Imo people were being served in the years before his coming by some regimes.

Not surprisingly, the roads are properly built to enhance the people’s economic situation and sustain their lifestyle. Hospitals are conceived to deal with primary, secondary and tertiary health needs of the people with all the value chain needed. Education programmes target, not just the old order in terms of reading and writing, but the long term benefits of a sector that educates the people mentally, physically, spiritually, psychologically, socially, taking into account the necessary skills. Not surprisingly also, his revolution in the digital ecosystem in Imo State with the establishment of the Ministry of Digital Economy and E-Government, the first in Nigeria, has sparked off a new thinking  about digital economy and existence in a contemporary world.

Forget the roads. There are too many of them anyway. Not less than 130 solidly built roads connecting Imo to her neighbours: Owerri-Orlu, Owerri-Okigwe, Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia, Owerri-Onitsha, Owerri-Elele- Port Harcourt, Mgbidi-Omuma-Akata, Mgbidi-Oguta, Airport -Aba road bypass, MCC-Toronto-Naze, Orlu- Mgbe-Akokwa-Uga, Orlu-St Joseph – Eziachi, and many more, are sitting pretty in our dear State and making movement across the nooks and crannies of Imo and beyond a delight.

Talk of the global infrastructure wonder that is the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre, the Imo Concorde Hotel (Hilton) with the complete renewal of the Boulevard overlooking the Hotel and it’s environs, the newly built Government House Annex Orlu, the rebuilt Presidential Lodge Owerri, the new Imo State Executive Council Chamber, the Imo State House of Assembly Complex, the new Banquet Hall, the First Lady’s Complex, the junction renewal across the Owerri metropolitan with traffic lights, the twin Assumpta Cathedral Flyover, the Bus terminals, to name but a few.

In fact, those who choose to measure Uzodimma’s achievements in Imo based on the tangible things they can behold today – road infrastructure and other development facilities, Skill Up programmes of the Digital Economy, constant payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities to civil servants and retirees (including the historic payment of 13th month), welfare of workers across the board, etc, may still have to hold their breath.

Reason? The benefits of the Light Up Imo Project of the Orashi Electricity Company, the gains of the Imo State Free Trade Zone, the dredging of the Orashi River to the Atlantic Ocean, the Africa Quality Assurance Trade Centre in Ngor Okpala, the gains accruing from the Governor’s investment in the health sector, among other things that will define Imo State of our future after Uzodimma’s tenure.

Just six years down the road, Uzodimma’s economic transformation speaks volumes. The infrastructure boom associated with his administration is top-notch. His worker- friendly policies are second to none. His approach to security and governance in an environment tainted with politically motivated killings and sponsored violence says a lot about his leadership discipline packed full with responsibility, transparency and accountability.

Until Uzodimma became Governor, not many people from the State could have believed that government can generate revenue from international community by merely being accountable and transparent in budgetary issues. Thus, under him, millions of dollars keep roll into the State’s coffers courtesy of the State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS), an organ of the World Bank that helps to regulate implementation of State budgets globally.

Year in and out since January 15, 2020 that Uzodimma resumed as Governor, attention is given to the capital provisions in the State’s annual appropriation bill and law, an intentional effort that sees government commiting more to the capital needs of the people as against the old order of paying more attention to the recurrent needs.

This year alone, out of a total of almost N1.44 trillion budget, 83.4% of the total sum is set aside to carter to the core needs of the people in keeping with the 2026 Budget of economic breakthrough as presented by Uzodimma. The implications, therefore, is that key ongoing infrastructure projects in the area of power ( Light Up Imo), health, education, agriculture, among others, will not suffer retardation.

When Uzodimma boasts that no project initiated by his administration will be left uncompleted, he marches such words with his numerous Executive Bills ( more than 45 of such ) that get passed into law by the State Assembly in a cordial relationship that shows institutional collaboration for common good. That is leadership. That is accountability. That is responsibility. That is governance by example. That is the legacy he has left behind these past six years. That is the legacy he will sustain two years from now when his eight years in office will be due.

Six years after, Imo is on the rise. The State is being noticed nationally and globally for the right reasons. Peace has fully returned to the State. Economy is showing greater resilience now than ever before. Nightlife is fully back, not just in Owerri, but also in Orlu and Okigwe, an indication that insecurity has been substantially degraded. More are more Imo indigenes are applauding the efforts of Governor Uzodimma to reset our dear State in such a manner that posterity will be kind to him.

The recent Christmas and New Year activities in Imo State spoke volumes about the willingness of Imo people, home and in the Diaspora to live together as brothers and sisters given the huge human traffic of our people across the three senatorial zones in celebration mood.

That there were no reports of ugly security situation before, during and after the festivities shows that the last vestiges of contrived insecurity to keep the loving people of Imo State out of their environment has been dealt the deadly blow it requires. Because government is useless without the protection of lives and property of the people, Governor Uzodimma commits what is necessary to ensure that Ndi Imo are secure anytime, anyday.

And to take the people’s protection and State security a notch further, the Governor January 9, 2026 inaugurated the Imo State Vigilance Services Organisation where 7,000 able bodied young men and women committed themselves to join Uzodimma’s administration to enhance security in their immediate environment. That’s inclusive ihgovernance in action.

Governor Uzodimma is conscious of all that fact and will stop at nothing to complete the resetting of our State which he began eight years ago, and in such a manner that posterity will bear him witness that a man who, hitherto was not given the opportunity to govern his people, was eventually drafted to do so by God to fulfill destiny –  to serve God sincerely and truthfully through serving the people.

Our prayer is for God to grant Governor Uzodimma the energy he needs to finish the work God has entrusted in his care.

Olusegun Alebiosu - First Bank MD
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has returned over N800 million recovered from a suspect to First Bank Nigeria, FBN.
The money was recovered from a suspect, Ojo Eghosa Kingsley who took unlawful possession of over N1.3 billion belonging to the bank.
The bank,  in its petition to the EFCC,  had alleged that system glitches led it to erroneously credit the account of Kingsley, a customer of the bank with the said amount.  The Commission in its investigation discovered that the suspect,  upon the receipt of the money,  transferred a good measure of it to the bank accounts of his mother, Itohan Ojo and that of his sister, Edith Okoro Osaretin, and committed part of the money to completion of his building project and the funding of a new flamboyant lifestyle.
With the recovery of the money from the identified bank accounts, the EFCC handed it over in drafts to First Bank.
The Acting Director, Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC,  Deputy Commander of the EFCC,  DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, while handing over the money,  stated that the EFCC will continue to discharge its mandate effectively in the overall interests of the society.  “The EFCC Establishment Act empowers us to trace and recover proceeds of crime and restitute the victim. In this case,  First Bank was the victim and that is exactly what we have done. We will continue to discharge our duties to ensure that fraudsters do not benefit from fraud and that economic and financial crimes are nipped in the bud,” he said.
In his response, Olalere Sunday Ajayi, Business Manager, First Bank, Benin, who received the drafts on behalf of the bank,  commended the EFCC for the swiftness and the professionalism it brought to bear in the handling of the matter and expressed the bank’s gratitude to the Commission.
