Primate Ayodele Indicts Judiciary, Buhari, Laments Nnamdi Kanu’s Continued  Incarceration

Primate Elijah Ayodele

The continued detention of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has been criticized by the Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele.

Ayodele said the Nation’s fledgling democracy is under threat following the continued trial and detention of Kanu, and that there is no hope for Nigeria’s democracy and judicial system because both systems have become irredeemably corrupt.

Primate Ayodele In a Statement signed by his aide, Oluwatosin Osho, said that there is nothing like democracy in Nigeria anymore, noting that “selection” is what is now obtainable.

Democracy in Nigeria,as it is presently is under threat, he said, and  has become a selection process

“The system to strengthen democracy in Nigeria is corrupt already. We are in a democracy of bondage.”

Ayodele condemned the Nigerian judicial system for not upholding the tenets and principles of the law in discharging its duties.

He said, ‘’Judges don’t also allow justice, they have forgotten that we will all be judged by God at the end. The cases surrounding this election will not come out as expected. The judiciary system is nothing to write home about.’’

He condemned the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government’s flagrant disobedience of Court judgments while referring to the IPOB leader’s case.

According to him, Kanu had done nothing to necessitate his continued detention even after the court had ordered his release.

‘’Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention all these while despite the fact that the court has approved his release. The government in charge of our democracy didn’t allow him to go. What did he do? Did he kill anyone?

“Or what exactly did he do that can’t allow the rule of law to be effective? There is no judgement in Nigeria, those at the helm of affairs will determine if a judgement will be followed or not, and that’s pointless,” he said

Abure Is Substantive National Chairman Of LP – Court;  Warns Apapa’s Faction To Steer Clear

Julius Abure - Labour Party National Chairman

By Akinwale Kasali

A High Court in Benin, Edo State, has dismissed the notice of suspension issued against the embattled National Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure, by the Lamidi Apapa faction.

Justice Emmanuel Aihamoje said the case lacked merit, threw it out, and affirmed Abure as the National Chairman of the Party.

The LP Acting National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, confirmed the position of the Court.

The action was filed by Abure and the Executives of LP Ward 3 in Esan North East of Edo State.

Justice Aihamoje said that the Party’s Ward Executive in Uromi, Ward 3, lacked the power under the Labour Party Constitution, particularly Act 13 & 17 and the Electoral Act 2022, as amended to remove the National Chairman of the Party.

The Judge in Suit No: HUC/21/2023, therefore, went ahead to impose a perpetual injunction against Lamidi Apapa and his faction from removing or suspending Abure as the National Chairman until a new National convention of the Party is held.

Aihamoje further stated that the purported Ward 3 Executives who suspended the National Chairman of the Party acted outside the powers vested on it by the Labour Party Constitution.

Reacting to the ruling, LP Ward 3 Chairman, Thompson Ehiguese, told Journalists at the court premises that the judgement has put an end to impostors who are masquerading as members of the labour party in the ward.

He said, “These charlatans claiming to be members of our party are from Edo North and members of APC. I want to use this medium to congratulate the Labour Party and the Obidient Movement that stood firmly with Comrade Julius Abure while the sponsored crisis in our great party lasted.

“The judgement is explicitly clear that Barrister Julius Abure remains the national Chairman until the party convention holds next year. Nothing can change our collective resolve to reclaim Nigerian masses’ mandate freely given to Mr Peter Obi and the party in the last presidential election.

On his part, Edo State Labour Party Chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi, affirmed that the Party has been vindicated, adding that the court has confirmed Apapa and his faction are ‘tragic power seekers.’

“Apapa, who, before then, was a Deputy National Chairman and a custodian of the Constitution of the Party, knew that the act of those who came to Abuja to announce the suspension of the national chairman was not doing so legally, since the action was an aberration to the provisions of the party’s constitution, instead, he ran to the court, seeking ex-parte motion to restrain the national chairman.

“Today they have been basically told that the charade can no longer be entertained by the court”, he said.

Following the ruling of the Court, the Lamidi Apapa led faction is yet to issue a statement, as its spokesperson, Abayomi Arabambi, is yet to comment on this development.

The number of Nigerians that have registered for the National Identity Card has hit over 100 million, according to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.

The minister said the NIN enrolment expanded by over 61 million in less than three years, adding that the registration did not cost the federal government a dime.

According to him, the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, was supported during the registration by some tech companies in the country as part of their Corporate social responsibility, CSR.

The data of Nigerians in the NIMC database before October 20 was barely 30 million, the minister said while unveiling 4366 Digital Economy pojects executed under the supervision of his ministry on Thursday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

“ Pantami was directed to supervise, from Oct. 2020 to May 2023, which is 2 years & 7 months, and the enrolment was increased by more than 61 million. Now over 100 million citizens are in the database,” the minister said.

Don’t Be Like Change Mantra, Make Your Renewed Hope Realistic, Bishop Ajakaiye Tells Tinubu

Felix Ajakaye and Bola Tinubu

The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye has charged the president elect, Bola Tinubu to ensure that his political slogan ‘Renewed Hope’ is meaningful, positive and concrete, unlike the outgoing President Buhari’s ‘Change’ mantra.

The cleric also tasked the President-Elect, to cut the cost of governance and initiate people-oriented policies in his administration.

“The in-coming administration of Asiwaju Tinubu should engage in people-oriented policies and it should not abandon the necessary on-going projects of the out-going Buhari government.

“In looking for the right path to good governance, Asiwaju Tinubu needs to choose and decide to do things right for things to be right with him and his administration.

“His must not be ‘business as usual’. His must be business unusual where the rule of law will be upheld for the benefit of all.

“I equally appeal to him not to allow the Presidency to be more powerful than the President. Nigerians would like to be hearing and seeing their President more than those he has appointed at the Presidency.

Bishop Ajakaiye stated these in Ado-Ekiti, in a message to Nigerians titled “A New Us Is Possible In Nigeria” charging Nigerians to think and act positively as the incoming government is expected to takeover on May 29th.

While calling on Tinubu to practice an inclusive government irrespective of the political platform, he urged the political parties to practice internal democracy for the growth of the country.

“We need to continue to emphasize internal democracy in all the political parties for real democracy to be an avenue of good governance in Nigeria.

“Independent Candidacy is needed now more than ever before. I encourage the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to promote politics of engagement, not politics of intimidation.

“Asiwaju Tinubu is to pray to God to guide him to be able to appoint the right people in the right places, and for him to do the right things at the right time.

“After the Inauguration on Monday, 29 May, 2023, Asiwaju Tinubu should remember that he will no more be the National Leader of the All Progressives Party, APC, but the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I humbly urge him to reduce the high cost of governance at the federal level.

“Let us start to put an end to the culture of waste in governance in Nigeria. For instance, what is the essence of having Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity and another person as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity? This old way must stop.

“A New Us Is Possible In Nigeria. A new me is possible. A new you is possible. This is my submission as a stubborn optimist, stubborn positivist, stubborn builder, stubborn encourager.

“Let us be optimists against all odds. Let us value ourselves and our Nigeria for us to be valued and for country to be valued.

“Always remember that you cannot give what you do not have. Value has a value only if its value is valued.”

May 29: Atiku Calls For Calm After Supreme Court’s Defeat

Atiku Abubakar, the defeated Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the February 25 Presidential Election has disclosed that the battle for democracy in Nigeria has just started.

The PDP candidate was responding to the Supreme Court judgment on Friday that upheld the nomination of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kassim Shetima as presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, respectively.

Atiku, however, appealed to his supporters to maintain calm as he awaits the ruling of the Election Petition Tribunal on whether he won the election or not.

The PDP has filed the suit to stop the swearing in  of Tinubu and Shetima on May 29, citing the wrongful nomination of Shetima, twice by his party.

The apex court ruling has now cleared the coast for their inauguration.

Responding to the Supreme Court ruling earlier today, Atiku said on his verified social media platforms that the battle to rescue Nigeria and enthrone a new order has just started, saying he will not give up until the court rules in his favour.

Atiku lost the presidential election to Tinubu with over 1 million votes in the February election but has filed a petition at the Election Petition Tribunal challenging the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, returning Tinubu as the winner.

The former vice president is asking the court to declare him the winner instead.

Speaking on the apex court judgement Atiku said, “The Supreme Court’s dismissal of the case of the PDP is not a setback to my quest for justice. Our legal team are primed to robustly prove that the election of February 25 was fraudulent, did not comply with the constitutional requirements and the electoral guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and that the announced winner was not even qualified to contest the poll.

“The battle for democracy and the enthronement of a new order to spur growth and development in Nigeria is one to which I have committed my all and for which I am not ready to walk away at this point when our nation is at crossroads. We know that sooner than later, our esteemed Justices will make the pronouncement that will serve as a befitting requiem for mandate bandits.

“I urge my supporters to exercise patience and conduct themselves peaceably as we diligently conduct our litigation at the Presidential Election Tribunal Court. –

What To Expect From Tinubu In 60 Days- APC Women Leader

0

The National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Betta Edu, says the president elect Bola Tinubu has already spelt out what his government will do in the first 60 days in office.

Tinubu was on Thursday, alongside side the Vice President elect Kassim Shettima, conferred with the GCFR and GCON, respectively, by President Muhammadu Buhari ahead their inauguration on May 29.

Also, ahead their swearing in, the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a suit filed by Atiku Abubakar and his party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP challenging the nomination of Shettima and vice president by the APC.

The Apex Court in its ruling after its five-man panel of justices considered the suit said both Atiku and PDP lacked the local standi to file the suit, thus clearing the coast for the swearing in next Monday.

Speaking of what to expect from the Tinubu-led Government, Edu said Tinubu will hit the ground running immediately after his inauguration, saying the President-elect already mapped out programs which will benefit Nigerians in his first 60 days as President and commander-in-chief.

She said by the time Tinubu finished his first term in office Nigerians will be begging him to contest for another four years, noting that the former Lagos state governor has studied the pitfalls of the current administration.

Edu said: “The first point we must understand is that Nigeria is a work in progress. If you listen to the speech of President Muhammadu Buhari today at the state banquet hall, he stated very clearly that he has fought a good fight.

“He said he is handing over Nigeria to someone who he believes will continue from where he stops and do better.”

“If you know Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, he is a deep thinker and doer. One who is very strong in terms of analysing and strategising,” she added.

“I can boldly tell you for free that the next 60 days have clearly been spelt out by Tinubu — what he hopes to do, what he hopes to achieve, at what point and where.

“He fully understands the task ahead of him. He is fully prepared. He wants to hit the ground running.

Residents of some communities in the southern part of Ondo state have again cried out over their continued sufferings occasioned by deplorable roads, electricity and other social amenities in the area.

In an open letter to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, by one of the residents, Oluwafemi Odofin, appealed to the governor to extend development to the area.

“Sir, Ondo South is the cash cow of Ondo State as we are richly blessed with human and minerals resources.

“However, the growth and development of the south is not commensurate with the vast human-capital and mineral resources we are being greatly endowed with.

“The social amenities and infrastructure across the length and breath of the southern axis of the state is nothing to write home about.

“Most of our roads are in a terribly deplorable state and it is not longer news as well that four local government areas which comprises: Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje and Ese-Odo have been in perpetual darkness for over 15 years now- a worrisome situation that has crippled our socioeconomic activities in the entire area.

“Presently, the Ore-Okitipupa road, which has been left unmaintained for some years now is in a horrible state.

“The bad state of the said road has negatively impacted the people as passengers now pay higher fares. Also, motorists take a longer time plying the road while the rate of auto crashes has also be on the increase.

“The nightmare that has come to be associated with navigating this road has made some drivers to stop their daily business.

“I really sympathize with our pregnant mothers plying this road on daily basis because information has it that some expectant mothers have had miscarriages because of the terrible state of the road.

“In a nutshell, this is a passionate appeal to Mr Governor to help intervene by rehabilitating the Ore-Okitipupa motorway so that the people living in this axis of the state can again experience a new lease of life.

“It is my candid belief that this plea will not fall on Your Excellency’s deaf ears. We are counting on your responsiveness in this regard, Sir.”

Supreme Court Clears Tinubu, Shettima’s Inauguration, Dismisses PDP’s Suit

0
Bola Tinubu and Shettima

By Ayodele Oni

The coast is clear for Monday’s inauguration of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as the President and Vice President of Nigeria, respectively.

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a suit filed by the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) challenging the eligibility of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu to contest the Presidential Election which was held on February 25th.

Nigerians had been patiently waiting to know the stand of the apex court in the suit which was thought to be a make or mar for the May 29 inauguration.

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court held on Friday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacked the locus standi to institute the suit.

The PDP had contended that the manner the APC and Tinubu nominated Mr Shettima as a Vice Presidential candidate for the election, was in gross breach of the provisions of the Electoral Act,

The party argued that there was evidence to establish that Mr Shettima was nominated twice, both for the Vice Presidential position, as well as for the Borno Central Senatorial seat, an action the PDP maintained was in contravention of the law.

Delivering judgment the Supreme Court held that the issue of locus is important. A plaintiff’s locus is linked with the court’s jurisdiction.

“A plaintiff must show harm or substantial harm done to him by the action he is complaining about.

“The appellant relied greatly on section 248(14c) of the constitution.

“This section deprived the appellant of the locus as it bars interference of political parties into the affairs of other political parties.

“The appellant did not participate in the election or nomination of the 4th respondent( Shettima).

“Section 84 of the electoral act only empowers an aspirant of a political party to institute an action in a pre-election matter.

“No political party can challenge the Nomination of the candidates of another political party, no matter how pained any person may be on how a political party nominated its candidate, the person must remain an onlooker.

“The determination of a pre-election matter has a time limit, the 180 of the trial court to exercise its jurisdiction and the 60 days for the appellate court to exercise its jurisdiction has lapsed.

“The suit was a waste of judicious time of the court.”

A cost of  N2million is awarded against the plaintiff.

CNPP, CSOs, Urge President-elect Not To Fall For Antics Of Anti-Bawa Elements

0
Chief Willy Ezugwu

Amid obvious plot to remove the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, from office by some forces in the country, the Conference Of Nigeria Parties (CNPP) and the Coalition Of National Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOs) have called on President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to fall for the antics of those they described as Anti-Bawa elements.

The CNPP and the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja and jointly signed by the CNPP Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu and the National Secretary of the CNCSOs, Alhaji Ali Abacha, the groups noted that from their investigations, “allegations against the EFCC chairman were mere concoctions and at best, imaginary.”

They stated that “the plots to frustrate the anti-graft war in Nigeria, as seen in the last few weeks, through consistent attacks on the country’s anti-graft agency, the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and its Chairman, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, remain worrisome.

“We almost believe what we have now discovered to be tissues of lies against the EFCC chairman and the commission itself, especially the alleged $300,000 said to have been spent by Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa for Sheraton Hotels accommodation for himself and his family in Jedda and Mecca during lesser Hajj.

“Some groups alleged that Mr Bawa spent $15,000 for 10 days per room and paid for 6 rooms, which they totalled to be $300,000 and considered same far above his means as a public servant.

“First, from the face value of the allegation, the mathematics is faulty because the figures were hurriedly generated to blackmail the executive Chairman of the EFCC. If we go by the allegation, it is obvious that figures being quoted cast serious doubts on the entire allegation.

“If the EFCC Chairman truly booked 6 rooms for himself and his family at the cost $15, 000 as being alleged, the total will be $90, 000 per day and in 10 days, it will total $900, 000 and not $300, 000 being bandied about. Therefore, anyone who believes the allegation can believe anything.

“Secondly, our independent findings show that Mr. Bawa neither spent anything close to $900,000 nor the $300,000 for accommodation.

“We therefore challenge anyone with contrary view to make available his or her evidence.

“Equally amusing is the accusation by the outgoing governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, that the EFCC Chairman, demanded $2 million as a bribe from him. He has been challenged by the EFCC about a week ago to produce the evidence of such request for the alleged bribery sum but he is yet to make his evidence public.

“It has, therefore, become very obvious that the attacks of the EFCC Chairman are sponsored by politicians who are now going for the jugular of Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa to get him out of the way.

“All conscious Nigerians will notice that the attacks on the EFCC as an anti-graft commission and the Chairman of the agency as a person have been incremental since it became public that the EFCC has concluded plans to go after some outgoing governors and other public officials after May 29.

“EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, had in March this year revealed the readiness of the commission to nab corrupt elected officials and government appointees, specifically saying that arrests would be made immediately after May 29.

“With about 18 outgoing governors and their deputies under the EFCC radar, it is expected that corruption will fight back, which is what has been happening in the last few week.

“Besides targeting those to be picked at the end of this administration, Bawa also disclosed that at least two ministries are currently under the radar of the commission for fraudulent activities that border on procurement processes.

“These are some of the forces behind the Bawa Must Step Aside campaign.

“We therefore urge the President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to start on a wrong footing by being a victim of the desperation of thieving politicians who want to mislead him into sacking Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa as EFCC Chairman.

“Suspending Mr Bawa under any guise will certainly send a wrong signal to Nigerians and the international community that the incoming administration will be corruption-friendly.

“We equally call on conscious political class and the Civil Society to rise up in defence of anti-graft war in Nigeria and support the EFCC to recover our stolen commonwealth which has been stashed away by corrupt politicians and their allies in Nigeria and in foreign lands.

“We demand for an end to the ongoing campaign of calumny against the person of Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa and the EFCC as an anti-graft agency.

“We hereby urge the EFCC Chairman and all operatives of the commission not to be deterred by the calculated attempts to use the media to intimidate and frustrate them in their avowed determination to arrest and prosecute all corrupt politically exposed individuals, including governors and others officials of government after May 29 handover date”, the statement concluded.
