Again, Magnus Abe Defects To APC, Dumps SDP

For the umpteenth time, Senator Magnus Abe of Rivers State, is dumping another Political Party and defecting to another. The Senator has gone back and forth major Political Parties since 1999.

He began with the Action for Democracy, AD, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. While in the Party, he was appointed a Commissioner under the Governor Peter Odili Government, and the Secretary to the State Government under the Rotimi Amaechi Government.

He later contested, and won a Senatorial seat. When Amaechi dumped the PDP for the APC, Abe was one of his loyalists who followed him.

But mid-way, he fell out with Amaechi over his ambition to succeed him  in office as Governor. Thereafter, he dumped the APC, and began moonlighting in mushroom parties from where he contested for the Governorship seat. He made no headway.

In the February, 25, 2023 Governorship election, Abe was the Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, even though he remained a very strong ally of then Candidate Bola Tinubu.

However, speaking on Channels Television on January 2, 2024, Abe announced that he is headed back to the APC.

“Politically, I am headed back to APC”, he said.

Not a few people think Abe’s decision to head back to the APC is the best for him if he is to remain politically relevant. With his ally, Tinubu, as President, and his estranged former boss, Amaechi, reduced to a nobody in the APC, Abe’s decision to head back to APC is smart, they said.

Death On The Plateau: CAN Sues For Peace

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Daniel Okoh has called on Nigerians to pray for the victims of bandits attacks on Plateau State.

Some suspected bandits had attacked two communities on Christmas Eve resulting in the death of many, including children and women.

According to reports, close to 200 persons were killed while over 220 houses were burnt by the bandits.

Unconfirmed  report also claimed that over 10,000 persons have been displaced following the attack.
Okoh’s message was contained in his new year message to Nigerians. He described the bandits as evil people who sought to turn the joy of Christmas to sadness for Nigerians.

He urged Nigerians not to be swayed by the terrorists, adding that what is required at this time is unity to lead the country to prosperity.

Okoh said, “In the face of these adversities, it is imperative that we, as a people, refuse to be discouraged. Instead, we must come together and remain resolute in our commitment to build a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation.

” It is in our togetherness that we find the strength to withstand the trials that beset us. In unity, there is hope, resilience, and the power to rebuild. Let us embrace our diversity and allow it to be the bedrock upon which we build a stronger, more harmonious nation.

“Together, as one united people, we are capable of creating a Nigeria where peace, justice, and prosperity are not just ideals, but realities for all.”

Plateau: Suspected ‘Killers’ Of Christmas Eve Attack Arrested

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has disclosed that some suspects who attacked two local governments in the state on December 24 have been arrested.


The Defence chief made this known on Monday on Channels Television, saying security agencies are working with local authorities in the state, to reclaim areas under the control of the criminals.


Once the areas have been recovered, Musa said those displaced from the two communities would be resettled back to their homes.


Reacting to the allegation that the military did not respond on time to the attack, the CDS said his men have been overstretched, and cannot be “everywhere” at the same time.


He said the intension of the terrorists was to embarrass the government, vowing that such would not be allowed to repeat itself.


“We are working with the state governments to identify these areas, this year God willing we will make sure bandits hold no community.


“I think the purpose is to embarrass everybody and to make the government look stupid and whoever did this, we are up on their heels and making some arrests.”


Recall that over 150 persons were killed by the terrorists in two communities, leaving many people displaced.

FG Spends N100bn To Boost School Enrolment

The federal government has allocated N100 billion from the 2024 Budget for the school feeding programme.

President Bola Tinubu disclosed this on Monday while signing into law the monetary estimate for the year, in Abuja the nation’s capital.

Top government officials who witnessed the signing, include the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, among other members of the National Assembly.

According to the president the federal government is deliberate on the school feeding programme in other to reduce the number of out of school children in the country.

To ensure that the programme succeed, Tinubu said the federal and state government would collaborate.
Nigeria has one of the highest number of out of school children in the world, according to UNESCO.

According to federal government records, the programme have encourage many children who could have dropped out of school due to poverty, particularly in the northern part of the country.

Tinubu said, “One of the priority areas of the bill we just passed is the N100 billion provision for the feeding of school children. I believe that is a stimulant that will encourage school enrolment and also address malnutrition among school children.

“I will be meeting with local government at sub-national levels so that we can collaborate and jointly implement an all-inclusive programme.”

APC  Asks Ladi Adebutu To Face His Criminal Charges, Accuses Of Patronizing President Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ogun State Governorship, Ladi Adebutu of patronizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over criminal charges leveled against him.

The Ogun State Chapter of the APC said that Adebutu had been evading Court Papers since his return to Nigeria recently after over eight months of “medical vacation” abroad, was quoted to have said at a new year party that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu belongs to us all. Nobody can claim to the presidency, it belongs to all Nigerians. Stop harassing us, we are all Tinubu’s children.”

The Ogun State APC in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the State Capital on Monday and signed by its state publicity secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, advised Adebutu to “stop evading court papers and answer to the criminal charges against him rather than resort to vaingloriously patronising President Bola Tinubu.”

The statement said: “It was not Tinubu who asked him to print over 200,000 ATM-like cards allegedly used to carry out vote buying during the election. Tinubu will never support criminality and attempts to destroy the democratic process in the country. He will not condone people who subvert the democratic process through vote buying. He should wait patiently for his day in court rather than trying to patronise Tinubu. He should count Tinubu out of his predicament.”

The statement reads further: “President Tinubu is, no doubt, the father of the nation, just like Prince Dapo Abiodun is the father of Ogun State . Mr. President needs no reminders on that. As a genuine pro-democracy activist who paid enormous sacrifices for the democracy we now enjoy, President Tinubu will never provide cover for criminality by anyone no matter how rich or solicitous. Our dear President will never stand in the way of the law.

“Our advice is that Adebutu should stop gambling and running from pillar to post. No one is above the law. The returnee should stop evading court papers and answer to the criminal charges of vote buying and money laundering against him. He is only being intimidated by his own shadow

“Adebutu should stop advertising his ignorant and stubborn position that he could not be tried for laundering his “own money”. If he feels so strong on this naïve claim and funny stance, he should go and express it in the court of law.”

It would be recalled that the Ogun State PDP had in a press statement issued on the 9th December, 2023, said some of its members were charged for vote-buying by the Federal Government. It gave their names as Ogunbona Hammed, Tiramisu Waliu, Egunsola Owolabi, Moliki Badmus and Sanni Adejoke. The PDP, by its own account, said its members who are standing trial for vote-buying made statements linking Adebutu and four others who were at large. Over 52 debit cards with the inscription “Madam Caroline Adebutu” were found on the accused , along with PDP polling agents cards; and they have since been admitted in evidence by the Police.

“Adebutu should forget about patronising our dear president and demonstrate leadership by facing the law and not use his members and agents already facing trial as pawns. How can those who were found with thousands of preloaded debit cards with the inscription of “Madam Dame Caroline Adebutu” be charged for vote-buying and the person who provided the funds, as attested to in writing his bankers, Zenith Bank Plc , would shun court papers and carry on as if he is above the law?”, the APC asked.

APM Urges Nigerians To Hold FG Accountable In 2024

Yusuf Dantalle, Chairman, Allied Peoples Mandate, APM, has called on Nigerians to hold the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Federal Government accountable in 2024.

Dantalle made the clarion call stressing that at all levels of governance, the Government should be held accountable.

The APM National Chairman acknowledged the economic hardships endured by Nigerians in 2023 but remained optimistic about the future.

He stressed the need for improved leadership and policy-making in 2024.

The statement read: “Poor leadership and ill-conceived policies need to be things of the past

“In 2024, it is imperative that we take our national destiny into our own hands, hold governments at all levels accountable in a renewed effort to build a better society.”

The party described the New Year as an opportunity for a national rebirth that promises economic growth, political stability, and social cohesion.

“The beginning of 2024 marks a new dawn for us all. It is a time when we must come together, regardless of our differences, to build the Nigeria of our dreams—a nation where no one is oppressed,” said Dantalle.

The APM called for a renewed sense of patriotism and service to the nation, urging Nigerians to work towards a country bound in freedom, peace, and unity.

NDF Inaugurates New Office, To Create Robust Support Network For Over 20 Million Nigerians

The Nigeria In Diaspora Forum, NDF, has inaugurated its new office in Abuja, the nation’s Capital.

This is to create a robust support network and relationship for over 20 million Nigerians who live in diaspora.

The inauguration of the new office was disclosed by the newly appointed Country Director, Chike Amadichi.

Joachim Okafor, Board Chairman of the NDF, made this known in a statement, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to the wellbeing of Nigerians abroad.

He stated that these strategic moves were aimed at enhancing the welfare and advocating for the rights of Nigerians in the Diaspora.

Okafor said, “The establishment of the Home Office in Abuja marks a pivotal step towards bringing our services to the nerve center of Nigerian diplomacy.

“With Hon. Chike Amadichi at the helm in Nigeria, we are confident in our ability to foster stronger collaborations with embassies and high commissions to support our compatriots across the globe.”

The NDF, a non-governmental organization established by Nigerians in the Diaspora, is focused on enhancing living conditions for Nigerians abroad and harnessing diaspora resources for national development.

“The NDF stands as a formidable platform for all Nigerians living outside our shores.

Governor Makinde Says Past Seven Months Most Challenging

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has disclosed that his administration went through a lot in the past Seven months.

Makinde stated that the continual rise in inflation in the past has been worrisome, following his administration’s inability to successfully ameliorate the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and the Naira to Dollar exchange rate.

He stressed that the removal of fuel subsidy and the peg on the Naira to Dollar exchange rate has had negative impact on the people of the state, making it seem his administration has done nothing to help their plights, coupled with other challenges governance is tied with.

In an address at the State House, Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, Governor Makinde said, “ The last seven months under Omituntun 2.0 have been challenging. The removal of fuel subsidy and the peg on the Naira to Dollar exchange rate has taken a toll on our economy and people.

“For this reason, in the past months, we have taken steps that show that we continue to put our people first.

“We have initiated actions through the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery programme that ensured that we provided immediate relief for our poorest population through food relief packages. We also extended this package to pensioners and civil servants.

“ We set up low-interest loans for our traders, market men and women, youth agropreneurs and smallholder farmers. We also distributed grains and other inputs to our smallholder farmers. We paid for health insurance for our pensioners and other disadvantaged people in our society. We also provided low-cost transportation through our Omituntun Buses both within and outside Ibadan.

“We know this is not enough as inflation rates continue to rise. And so, as we cross the halfway mark of our first year with the Omituntun 2.0 mandate, this is an auspicious time to remind you that our administration was built for times like this. The implementation of our 2024 Budget of Economic Recovery will serve to reinforce the reforms that we are introducing to secure our economy further.”

He, however sought more support from the people of the State as his governance moves towards the first year in his second term.

He said, “We again ask for your support as we take the tough decisions that will see our dear State deliver prosperity for all. We have so far been bullish about bringing investments into Oyo State, and as the new year unfolds, you will see more and more ways in which we have continued to put you first.

“This year, we look forward to completing more road projects like the 76.67 km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road construction and the 38 km Ido-Eruwa Road reconstruction. We will also be reconstructing and rehabilitating more feeder roads across Oyo State.

“We look forward to welcoming more industries into our dear state as we commission the pilot Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub and start work on the Eruwa Agribusiness Industrial Hub.

“We look forward to reaping revenue from the solid minerals sector and completing our first Independent Power Project.”

Speaking further, the Governor said, “ We look forward to welcoming investors into our tourism sector as we seek to revitalise the Ibadan Cultural Centre and Agodi Gardens while opening the Eleyele Lake, and the Iyake Lake, Ado-Awaye, to investor interest.

“We believe that by following this economic blueprint, with God on our side and your continued support, our administration will continue to put our dear State on the map for all the right reasons.

“While we promise to continue making decisions that will make us proud to be from Oyo State, we implore you to work with us as we seek to bring sanity to the State by implementing the rule of law. It will be impossible to enforce laws without stepping on toes.

“I urge us all to see the bigger picture – a State where investors and tourists will be happy to come to and live because they know that they can feel safe and secure. May 2024 be that year when things turn around for us all for good!”

After several Save Our Soul appeals Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun and Political Stakeholders, the Lagos State Government  remained defiant and finally demolished the Police Officers’ Wives Association Shopping Complex in the Computer Village, Ikeja area of Lagos.

The demolition exercise which took place in the early hours of Sunday, December 31, 2023, saw Traders counting their loses as they struggled to gather some of their properties from the rubbles.

Counting their loses, The Chairman, Computer Dealers Association, in Computer Village, Tayo Shittu, said the demolition began around 12 am in the early hours of Sunday morning, as they were caught unawares, though, the LASG has informed it had no  intention to demolish the Complex.

According to Shittu, “ Around 12 am, I was called that about 300 policemen had stormed our plaza with up to three bulldozers that they were bringing down our plaza. The whole plaza, Phase 1 and 2, has been brought down. We are talking of about 300 shops, more than 1000 occupants. In some shops, we have two, three or five people.

“We are not feeling good at all. A lot of our members have travelled for the Christmas holidays. If at all it was supposed to happen, there must be a roundtable discussion. They just came suddenly and brought everything down.”

Some of the Traders couldn’t hold back tears as they counted their loses.  Millions of Naira worth of  properties and goods were destroyed.

Lamenting their loses, a Trader, Omobayo Azeez, said, “Around 12 am on Sunday, over 200 heavily armed police officers stormed the place. According to eyewitnesses, they blocked all entrances to the place and sent away anyone around.”

In the same vein, another shop owner, identified simply as Emeka, who also spoke with PUNCH Metro, said traders lost valuable goods to the demolition.

Emeka said, “Goods including air conditioning systems, inverters, solar panels, burglary, and laptops were taken away. They used hammers to break in and collected valuables before they started breaking. As we moved around here, we could not find some of the things we left. Two months ago, the Lagos State Government came here and collected taxes from all of us but the appreciation they could show us for electing them and paying our taxes is to come and demolish our businesses. Many people working under us are out of jobs. They are sending another set of Lagosians to the IDP camps.”

It was gathered that over 1,000 Traders are been rendered jobless with the demolition, as Shittu lament the inconsiderate gesture of Governor Sanwo Olu, and its insensitivity to the plights of the traders.

Also, this news medium was reliably informed that the Government with armed policemen allegedly stormed the plaza on Thursday afternoon, to give them a 24-hour deadline to vacate the over 300 shops in the POWA complex, and came early Sunday morning to wreck havoc.
