Nigeria Ranks Highest In Female Genital Mutilation – UNICEF

Olayemi Oyebanji - Ekiti State First Lady

By Ayodele Oni

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has promised  to step up the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) through a collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Dr. Oyebanji gave the assurance when she received a delegation from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and two civil society organizations, Balm in Gilead Foundation (BIGIF) and Gender Mobile Initiative.

Represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Peju Babafemi, Dr. Oyebanji declared that a total war would be waged and sustained against FGM which she described as a form of Gender Based Violence (GBV).

She explained that her office has developed a work plan in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development noting that the Civil Society Organizations would receive the support of the state government in sensitizing the citizenry against FGM.

Describing the practice as “degrading and dehumanizing,” the First Lady told her guests that various initiatives had been put in place to reduce FGM in the state which include the “Drop the Blade” Campaign across the grassroots to discourage the practitioners of the practice and save the girl-child.

According to her, other initiatives like Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) and Back to School Programme are complementary to the fight against FGM and other forms of GBV.

She said: “FGM is degrading and dehumanizing and so in all our advocacy programmes, we are making sure that we speak against FGM and we are also taking practical steps in organizing sensitization programmes in conjunction with CSOs on the issue of FGM.

“With the commitment of the Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji Administration to eradicating GBV especially FGM, we are going to have a great success.

“In a coupe of days, GBV Management Committee led by the First Lady will start working after the inauguration as Mr. Governor has approved the composition of that Committee.

“For us here in Ekiti, it is a total war against FGM and UNICEF will not be disappointed by supporting our CSOs in supporting our vision. We pledge our unflinching commitment to the movements to end FGM.”

Earlier, the Nigeria Chief Child Protection Specialist, United Nations Child Education Fund, UNICEF, Mrs. Hadiza Ibrahim noted that the country has one of the highest prevalence in Africa.

She remarked that much successes had however been made through national policies and action plans with the support of local government, religious leaders and traditional rulers.

Mrs. Ibrahim emphasized that  Nigerians needed to be involved, by standing up against those that were actually perpetrating, aiding and abetting the scourge.

The UNICEF chief described the Office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as the rallying points for galvanizing, mobilizing and encouraging all women-led organizations and groups to make commitment and join the movement to end FGM for good in the state.

Prof Cyril Ndifon and UNICAL Female Law Students

By Adesina Soyooye

Gunmen have abducted the  suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Professor Cyril Ndifon.

The Professor of Law was abducted from his residence, Akpabuyo Local Government Area,  Cross River State.

Ndifon had earlier raised an alarm that he was trailed by masked gunmen who attempted to abduct him to a Church.

Professor Ndifon was suspended by the University  authorities over allegations of se€ual harassment by female Law students of the University who protested against him in front of the Vice Chancellor’s office. He denied all allegations, but an Investigative Panel set up on the matter indicted him as well as on other sundry issues.

Confirming the abduction of  Ndifon, his son, David, said the gunmen invaded their home between 11pm Wednesday, and early Thursday morning, fired several gunshots, and harassed the family by pointing guns at them.

He said: “It is true. He was taken away by gunmen. The incident happened between the hours of 11pm on Wednesday and the early hours of Thursday.

“We have been trying our best and making necessary calls to ensure his safe return.”

Neither the Police nor the University authority has, so far, issued a statement on the incident.

Kano: Protesters To High Commission In UK Demanding Justice-NNPP

0

The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has denied the allegation that the party sponsored a protest at the Nigeria High Commission in London on October 1.

Some Nigerians staged a protest to the High Commission office to show their dissatisfaction with the recent ruling of the Kano State Election Tribunal which invalidated the election of Governor Abba Yusuf.

On September 20, the tribunal declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nasir Gawuna, the immediate past Deputy Governor,  winner of the governorship election.

In its reaction to the protest, the National Coalition of All Progressives Congress, APC Stakeholders blamed the ruling NNPP in the state.

Responding, the NNPP said the protesters were only expressing their anger over the judgment, which has nothing to do with the party.

The reaction came from a chieftain of the NNPP,  Ladipo Johnson, who stated in a statement on Wednesday that the outrage over the nullification of Governor Yusuf caused the protest in the UK, adding that it’s within the fundamental human rights of Nigerians abroad to show their dissatisfaction over what is happening in the country.

Johnson said: “As far as we know those protesters are Nigerians resident abroad who merely denounced what they see as an act of injustice as they proclaimed in their placards.

“Obviously, they are not the usual rented crowd like we see by the APC but true patriots who drew our attention and that of the global community to a sense of injustice. It is only reasonable to take into account their messages for redemption.

“The truth is that the protest obviously touched the nerves of the APC and we could see that in their negative reactions.

“However, the protest by those patriotic Nigerians has brought to the consciousness of the global community the fact that the Nigerian judiciary now needs help to be truly independent. So contrary to such negative colorations by the APC, the protesters only stressed this point rather than fighting the judiciary or any agencies of government.”

Meanwhile, the NNPC-led government in the state has called for calm among the residents, after filing an appeal at the Court of Appeal to overturn the ruling of the lower court.

FG To Increase Annual Medical Schools Enrolment To 10,000

0

Efforts are ongoing to tackle the dearth of medical doctors in Nigeria, the federal government has said.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa made this known on Wednesday in Abuja, saying part of the plan is to increase the enrolment quota for medical schools in the country.

Nigerian hospitals have been faced with shortages of medical doctors after many doctors left their jobs to seek better opportunities abroad.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, no fewer than 5,600 Nigerian medical doctors have migrated to the United Kingdom, UK, in the last eight years.

The implication is that Nigeria now suffers from insufficient doctors and has a doctor-patient ratio over five times worse than what the World Health Organisation, WHO, recommends.

Experts in the sector insist that the brain in the sector will get worse as the number of doctors leaving the country is bound to increase.

Speaking on how to address the problem, the minister said part of the strategy being adopted by the government is to double the population of medical and dental doctors from 5,000 to 10,000 from the next academic year.

This will be done by increasing admission into the medical and dental schools in the country, Alausa stated at the induction ceremony of foreign-trained medical and dental graduates by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, in the nation’s capital.

He explained that the 3000 medical doctors produced annually in the country are no longer adequate for the expanding health sector, adding that good incentives for medical staff would to their exodus to Europe, the US, and Asia where they are well remunerated.

He said the federal government “shall expand these opportunities to all other health professionals like pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, community health extension workers, radiographers, and others. Although, this will be in phases. We shall create room to produce more and excess because globally, there’s a shortage of health manpower, which has been estimated at a shortage of 18 million people.”

According to the figures provided by the NMA, In 2015, 233 Nigerian doctors moved to the UK; in 2016 the number increased to 279; in 2017 the figure was 475, in 2018, the figure rose to 852, in 2019 it jumped to 1,347; in 2020, the figure was 833 and in 2021 was put at 932.

Over 2000 doctors, according to the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, left the country last year.

Uzodimma’s 4,000 Foreign Jobs: The Efficacy Of The Unthinkable

1

By Declan Emelumba

Cynicism is an age-long bane of the human race, but it is often the trademark of those described by the holy book as “men of little faith.” In ordinary parlance, it could be the apt definition for “men who are bereft of vision and insight.” Either way, it leads to the same end: such people are often thrown away by the prospect of new ideas, particularly the ones that jolt or beat human imagination.

In my days as a student of political science, one of my lecturers in foreign policy repeatedly urged us to always think of the “unthinkable”. At the time, it sounded weird, but because he kept harping on it during his lectures, it dawned on me and my classmates that the lecturer made a lot of sense. When you think of the unthinkable, nothing will shock you. Thinking of the unthinkable is actually another way of dreaming big, beyond human imagination. It is about the power of positive thinking, which can shatter all barriers to progress. This was what President Barack Obama referred to as ‘The Audacity of Hope”.  All those whose ideas and inventions have changed the world belong to this mould. But they are a tiny minority. The majority of us are cynics and men of little faith who are quick to dismiss big dreams as unthinkable and impossible.

One of the reasons why Jesus Christ always had brushes with the Pharisees was their hypocrisy laced with cynicism, unbridled argumentative predilection, and, of course, their unbelief For a people who were so unreasonable to the point of even rejecting the healing miracle because it was to be done on a Sabbath day, the Pharisees always shot themselves on the foot. Of all their encounters with Jesus, the one that amuses me most was when the paralytic man was to be cured. Jesus asked him to go home that his sins were forgiven. The Pharisees took umbrage that Jesus didn’t have such powers. He then asked them, which was easier to say, “the man’s sins had been forgiven” or to ask him to “stand up and walk”? Long story cut short, Jesus instantly healed the man, and he walked home.

Governor Hope Uzodimma is a mere mortal and can never be compared to Jesus. Of course, that would be heresy. But such stories in the Bible offer us the best narratives with which to illustrate the fact that cynicism is as old as the human race. It is not surprising, therefore, that cynics have sprung up so quickly in the army of misguided mischief makers who have descended on the Governor of Imo State since he made a promise to help 4000 youths of Imo origin with digital skills and, thereafter, help them secure jobs in European and Canadian companies. From musicians who can’t manage their homes to failed politicians who are simply envious of the governor’s achievements, the Pharisees and naysayers have concluded that Uzodimma ‘s vision is unthinkable and impossible. What a pity!

For people who are afraid of challenges, for people cocooned in their little world of always avoiding risks, such a projection from the visionary governor is strange and out of the world to achieve.

Unfortunately, they don’t have the history of the man. From 1992 till the date he became the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma can’t recall the exact number of people he has sponsored abroad just as he can’t place the faces of the beneficiaries of his scholarship programmes.

He can not also place the faces of the women and young people who have benefitted from his various empowerment initiatives. If he could do so much as a private citizen, how much more can he do as a governor with the enormous goodwill available to him?

Going by the baying of the young audience in response to the Governor’s promise, it appears that the detractors do not even have a handle on what is at stake. Some even went to the ridiculous extent of criticizing the governor for looking for jobs for his people abroad, instead of here in Imo State. Others imagined he could be trafficking them, while the ignorant claimed it was just a political gimmick to catch votes ahead of the governorship elections in November. Just like the Pharisees, they are neither interested in the details nor the logic. So long as the proposal does not conform to the imaginations of their little minds, there is suspicion in it.

Let us look at the facts: So far, Governor Uzodimma has trained 20,000 Imo youths in different digital skills, and equipped them with start-up kits. No other state in Nigeria has achieved this feat. Many of the Skillup Imo graduates have already secured jobs abroad. Many more are gainfully self – employed in various parts of the country.

Secondly, it is doubtful that the legion of cynics now polluting the social media space and making mockery of the promised 4000 jobs even listened to the rest of the governor’s speech wherein he laid the background and provided the justification for his big vision.

These are excerpts from his speech: “In 2018, digitally transformed enterprises accounted for 13.5 trillion US Dollars of the global nominal GDP. In 2023, they are forecast to account for 53.3 trillion US Dollars – more than half of the overall nominal GDP. This signals that digital supremacy in the global economy is near. For those who may not understand, it is this looming digital supremacy in the global economy that Uzodimma seeks to buy into. This is why his government is targeting to train a total of 300,000 in digital skills. In addition to the 20,000 already trained under the Skillup Imo project cohorts 1 and 2, arrangements have been concluded to commence the training of another 40,000 under Cohort 3 of the project.

Thirdly and even more importantly, what the governor said is that he is entering into an understanding with some European and Canadian companies, who are interested in specific digital skills for their companies at home, to train Imo youths to meet such specifications.

For the records, he never said European and Canadian governments but private companies.

Thereafter, such youths will be employed by these companies. For those who may not know, employment of people with specialized skills is trending in Europe, America, and the rest of the developed world.

There is clear, verifiable evidence of this. I refer this obviously uninformed army of Uzodimma’s critics to a  Vanguard Newspaper publication of June 28th this year. That publication quoted Canadian authorities of opening their boarders for youths with digital skills for employment. Reason?. The ageing and declining population of that country has made such policy necessary and even urgent.

The programme plans to employ over 500,000 youths  with digital skills across the globe between now and 2025. Nigeria was specifically mentioned in that report ( Google

http://www.vanguardngr.com for details). Governor Hope Uzodimma is only angling to get a very tiny portion of the available 500,000 digital jobs for Imo youths. It is only incurable pessimist and cynics that will see this laudable and doable ambition as mission impossible!

Against this backdrop, such an ambitious project by both a pragmatic and visionary leader ought to be applauded and not derided by those who know next to nothing about governance, entrepreneurship, mentoring, and networking.

The fourth point is that experts in this trending field of digital technology did not waste time in acknowledging that Uzodimma was on the right track. Chief Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman of Zinox Technologies, averred at the ceremony that he would have been a billionaire long before now if he had received the kind of head start the governor was giving the youths.

Describing the feat by Uzodimma as unprecedented, Chief Ekeh, who is a key player in the industry, predicted that he could see 5,000 billionaires emerging from the youths who graduated that day because their skills were in high demand. Now, Chief Leo Stan Ekeh is not a politician. He is a technocrat. He immediately saw the potential in what Uzodimma is doing. Typically and sadly, those blinded by ignorance and partisanship could not see that.

It was as well that the Federal Government was represented at the occasion by the Minister of Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, who, like Ekeh, is knowledgeable in  the digital economy. He not only lauded the Imo State governor for that initiative but pledged that the Federal Government will partner with the state to start off a similar project for the youths. It is important to emphasize here that Imo is the first state in Nigeria to successfully equip this large number of young citizens with vital digital skills, thus getting them ready for today’s technology-driven world and economy. As an investment by Uzodimma to create a future for the youths to enable them achieve success like Elon Musk and Bill Gates, finding jobs for 4,000 of them across the globe is the least the governor can do, particularly when there is clear evidence of global demand for such skills.

The highly revered President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, only has pity for those cynics who believe that Uzodimma was playing to the gallery and has no intentions of fulfilling his promise of finding jobs for the trainees. He concluded that casting doubts on the Governor’s proclamation was borne out of ignorance and mischief since Uzodimma had in the past achieved groundbreaking feats that will make the job promise look ordinary. Such soothing words will always gladden the heart because Chief Iwuanyanwu has been around and has witnessed firsthand the developmental strides of the governor. He hails from Atta in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, and he used to spend over two hours to make the 16-kilometre journey from Owerri to his country home. This was because of the deplorable condition of the Owerri – Okigwe road. Following the recent reconstruction of the road by the Uzodimma administration, the journey now takes 15 minutes. When Governor Uzodimma promised to reconstruct and expand the 60 – Kilometre road between Owerri and Okigwe, some cynics doubted him as they are doing now. But today, Uzodimma has turned the road to a delightful one, making it one of the smoothest roads in the South East as confirmed by no less a person than the former power minister, Professor Chinedu Nebo.

Indeed, Uzodimma did the same magic to the Owerri – Orlu road, which has been transformed to a dual carriageway with functioning street lights. One of the country’s respected columnists, Dr Ugorji Egbufo, whose hometown is along that axis, described what Uzodimma did as a sheer miracle because the road had defied solutions for decades. In other words, something that looked impossible to others was made possible by Uzodimma. That is the efficacy of thinking of the unthinkable, the audacity of hope.

Let it be known that Uzodimma is an ardent believer in the dictum that where there is a will, there must be a way. When early in the year, the state government announced plans to sponsor a record 1,000 Christians on a pilgrimage to the holy land, the same opposition urged prospective applicants to stay away, describing the scheme as a scam. Today, the beneficiaries received the full sponsorship as promised. Their Muslim counterparts were also treated equally. In local parlance, “the man na talk na do”. He does what he says. He keeps his promises. His other name is “Ekwueme”.

The workers of Imo State can also rightly testify that Uzodimma does not make empty promises. He promised to rebuild their secretariat to make it comfortable and befitting. He did it. He promised to pay their salaries regularly and on time. He did it and is still doing it. He went beyond that by paying them a 13th month salary every year. This is a case of doing more than he promised. He gave them  health insurance. He gave them free transportation with breakfast. These are things that were unthinkable in the past. Things people thought were impossible, Uzodimma has done them rather effortlessly, same way he recovered government properties and revived Adapalm Limited, Ohaji; the same way he returned potable water to Owerri after two decades of dry taps. That is the same way he will  accomplish the promise of 4000 jobs to the chagrin of perennial cynics.

The way opposition candidates in the state jumped in to join the bandwagon to question

Uzodimma’s sincerity confirms that they are looking for ways to demean the progress made by the government in the empowerment of the youths of Imo State. It is all part of their plan to diminish the achievements of a hardworking governor who knows the needs of his people. They know that any family that is fortunate to have their family employed in Europe or employed by a Canadian company will owe tons of gratitude to the benefactor. They also know that empowering Imo youths means depleting the market from where they source manpower for the furtherance of insecurity in the state. This is why they are not applauding the governor for a programme obviously aimed at reducing poverty in the land. Fortunately for the youths, the man who made the promise is more than determined and capable of fulfilling it irrespective of the ranting of the interlopers, alarmists, and incurable pessimists Soon enough, this too will come to pass like the other unthinkable feats that Uzodimma has accomplished. Time will again vindicate the governor.

CSU: “Tinubu Should’ve Saved Nigeria From Embarrassment” – Ezekwesili

0

By Gideon Njoku

Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister for Education, has slammed  President Bola Tinubu over the Chicago State University certificate controversy.

Ezekwesili, also,  a former Presidential Candidate said Tinubu should have saved Nigeria from embarrassment if he had  voluntarily asked CSU to publish his academic records. If he had done that, Ezekwesili posited, it would have been less traumatic and, more important, exemplary.

In a post on X, she  lamented that Nigerian leaders abhore transparency.

Said Ezekwesili: “How so much easier it would have been for Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu to have saved the country and people the embarrassment of this Chicago State University -CSU court case by instantly and voluntarily asking the institution to publish his academic credentials!

“How difficult could that have been?

“How so less traumatic such exemplary disclosure to remove all doubts would have been for Nigerians.

“Like most Nigerians, it is profoundly embarrassing to field mocking questions on this matter that strikes at the heart of our National Integrity from foreigners.

“Our Public Leaders of a certain genre despise Transparency and yet it is an antidote to fiascos like this one.

“As Citizens, at the end of the 2023 electoral process that follows the judgement by the Nigerian Supreme Court @SupremeCourtNg, our work is cut out for us to uncompromisingly demand a root and branch reform of the entire Electoral @inecnigeria and Judicial Systems @njcNig.”

Obi to Teachers: You Are Critical To Nation Building

0
Peter Obi

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has encouraged all the teachers in Nigeria to remain committed to the task of nation building, by discharging their duties diligently, and showing good examples to their students, and society at large. Obi explained that there cannot be any true development in society without the immeasurable contributions of teachers.

Obi made the remarks in his message to mark World Teachers Day 2023. He reiterated that at the foundation of the development of any society is human capital development, which can only be achieved through education and immeasurable contribution of teachers.

“The great rigor, hard work, patience and dedication most teachers in different schools and institutions, especially at the basic level, put into their work to ensure that their students can become the best in learning and character, deserve commendation.

“I have always celebrated teachers in Nigeria, whenever the opportunity comes, for example, Mr Akeem Badru, who won the 2023 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Award. I have also maintained that the government should begin to celebrate Nigerian teachers, who through hardwork and dedication, have distinguished themselves in many ways, rather than celebrating individuals who contribute to the challenges facing us a nation,” he added.

Speaking further, Obi revealed that while serving in Anambra State, his administration would not have been able to achieve the many feats they recorded in the education sector in Anambra State, without the devotion and commitment of teachers in the State. “We need to revolutionalise education in the nation, by aggressively reducing the present 22 million out-of-school children and bringing them back to schools. This we can achieve by making more investment in education and employing more teachers,” Obi said.

He also urged the government to take teachers salaries seriously and ensure that they are paid as and when due. “At the basic education level, which is the most critical, governments at all levels, should intervene in schools owned by private and voluntary agencies, and ensure that their teachers are paid as their counterparts in public schools,” he advised.

Obi, finally, called on the teachers to remain resolute and patient in the present hardship prevalent in the State and look forward to a better Nigeria, the New Nigeria.

Presidency Insists Tinubu’s Certificate Not Fake, Atiku Says Forged Document Submitted To INEC

0
Bola Ahmed Tinubu

By Ayodele Oni

The Presidency has debunked claims that the certificate presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by President Bola Tinubu to be able to contest the 2023 presidency was forged.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, who issued a statement regarding the controversy on Wednesday said there is nowhere in the deposition made by the Chicago State University (CSU) did the institution admit that the certificate presented to INEC by President Tinubu is fake.

He argued further that the University affirmed under oath that Tinubu attended and graduated from the institution and that the school does not handle replacements for lost certificates.

His rebuttal comes amidst reports that the Chicago State University has said in the testimony of the institution that the Nigerian President presented a forged degree certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) when he filed his paperwork to lead Nigeria in June 2022.

Also Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) insisted that Tinubu’s certificate submitted to the electoral umpire was forged.

However, Ajayi in his submission said there is no truth in such claims as no man can forge a certificate he already possesses and it is only what you don’t have that you forge.

Taking to his account on the X micro-blogging platform, the presidential media aide wrote: “We should be clear.

“In the deposition made by the Chicago State University, there was nowhere the University said the certificate presented to INEC by President Tinubu is fake.

“The University insisted under oath that President Tinubu graduated with honours and even at that, replacements for lost certificates are done by vendors not the University.

“The claim that President Tinubu submitted fake certificate to INEC does not make sense. A man can not forge the academic records he possesses. You can only forge what you don’t have.”

But Atiku’s aide said documents released by Chicago State University, alongside President Bola Tinubu’s academic records, indicate Nigeria’s leader submitted a fake certificate to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu, in a statement, said: “The samples of redacted certificates handed to us by CSU show that the one submitted to INEC by Tinubu was indeed a forgery, and this will be made known during the deposition, which will be done under oath.”

Reps Mandate Works Ministry On Urgent Completion Of Deplorable Ogbaru Road

0

The House of Representatives has mandated the Federal Ministry of Works and the House Committee on Appropriation, to include the completion of Onitsha-Atani-Ossomalla-Ogwuikpele-Ndoni Road project, in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state in the 2024 budget estimates.

This directive was given during plenary at the floor of the House on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, in response to a motion by the representative of Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Afam Victor Ogene, which drew attention of the House to the grueling experience of the people on that singular dilapidated road that connects the local government to the rest of the state.

The House also mandated the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, to provide palliative measures on the road in the interim, to ease transportation.

According to Ogene, the badly flood-ravaged Ogbaru road is also the shortest route to get into Rivers State from Anambra.

The motion read in parts: (The House) “Notes that the Onitsha-Atani-Ossomalla-Ogwuikpele-Ndoni Road, is the only road that connects the 15 communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area/Federal Constituency of Anambra state to the rest of the state, and is the shortest route to Rivers State from Anambra;

“Concerned that the road is in deplorable condition, making commuting a grueling experience, which is made worse by the yearly flood disaster in the area;

“Also concerned that the people in Ogbaru Local Government Area/Federal Constituency, who are predominantly farmers, find it extremely difficult to transport their produce to different markets via the dilapidated road, thus impacting their contribution to the nation’s food security;

“Worried that this important road has become tortuous and treacherous to road users, leading to loss of lives, valuable farm produce, properties and man hours;”

Apparently in agreement with the motion, the House therefore resolved as follows:

“(i) Urge the Federal Ministry of Works and the House Appropriation Committee, to include completion of the Onitsha-Atani-Ossomalla-Ogwuikpele-Ndoni
Road Project in the 2024 budget estimates;

“(ii) also urge the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), to in the meantime, provide palliative measures on the road to ease transportation thereon;

“Mandate the Committee on Works and Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to ensure compliance.”
