How An Unqualified Nurse Injected Mohbad To Death – Police

Mohbad

By Adesina Soyooye

The controversy over the sudden death of singer, Ileroluwa Aloba, popular as Mohbad is gradually settling down with the revelation by the Lagos State Police Command that he may have died from a couple of injections given to him at home by an unqualified and unregistered “Nurse”

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and sparked off a series of allegations and counter allegations which led to the arrest and detention of his friends, including, controversial musician, Naira Marley, whose signed he was before they parted ways.

His friends were alleged to have bullied him no end, and often times physically beat him in a bid to intimidate him. Both his wife and mother confirm he lived in fear until his sudden death.

But in a detailed preliminary brief on Mohbad’s death, pending the release of the autopsy of his body ordered by the Lagos State Government, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Idowu Owohunwa, said the late singer was sent off Mother- Earth by the instruments of an unregistered Nurse who gave him injections, including one for tetanus, and an infusion in quick succession. Thereafter, Mohbad began to convulsed and vomited blood. When he was eventually taken to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The CP disclosed that a total of 26 witnesses have been interviewed.

Those interrogated were Mohbad’s father, mother, sisters, brother, wife and manager, among others.

The CP said that the “nurse”, Feyisayo Ogedemgbe, was invited by Mohbad’s friend, Ayobami Sodiq, aka Spending, to inject the singer at his residence.

She administered three doses of injections now believed  to have triggered a chain of reactions which ultimately led to Mohbad’s death.

Said the CP: “The chain of events that directly and specifically led to the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad) occurred between 10th – 13th September, 2023 and the locations of incidents stretched over Ikorodu and Lekki in Lagos State.

“Feyisayo Ogedengbe ‘f’, who, as an auxiliary nurse, administered multiple and highly potent injections which triggered an immediate reaction that eventually occasioned the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad) is the principal suspect in the homicide case.

“Feyisayo Ogedengbe is not a qualified, registered, nurse, and her illegal and medical negligence are believed to have been directly responsible for the chain reactions and eventual death of Mohbad at 1543hrs on 12th September, 2023.

“The time within which Auxiliary Nurse Ogedengbe administered the injections on Mohbad, through his reaction, convulsion and his eventual death is confirmed to be within less than an hour covering from 1440hrs when the principal suspect administered the sets of injections and 1543hrs when Mohbad was confirmed dead at Cura-Med Hospital, Lekki.

“Aside her admittance to the consequences of her actions, the Report of the Medical Panel that reviewed Auxiliary Nurse Feyisayo’s actions concluded that she went beyond her limitations as an auxiliary nurse by administering IV Ceftriaxone on the deceased and that this from their review, was the most likely cause of the anaphylactic reaction which could have been promptly resolved and his death possibly prevented, if the deceased was treated in the hospital.

“Ibrahim Oluwatosin Owoduni (Prime Boy) is also considered as complicit in the chain of events that led to the eventual death of Mohbad as the injury that culminated in actions which led to his death was sustained in the course of physical combat between him and Mohbad

“Ayobami Sodiq (Spending), is also considered complicit in the homicide case for inviting Feyisayo Ogedengbe whom he knew to be an unqualified and unregistered nurse to administer the potent medications that eventually triggered reactions leading to Mohbad’s death.’’

The result of the  autopsy conducted on the late singer’s body, said the CP, is being awaited. His body was exhumed for autopsy after it was buried on September 13, 2023.

According to the CP, “From investigation so far conducted, the sequence of events that directly occasioned the death of Mohbad and the suspects directly involved have been established as follows:

On 10th September 2023, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad) attended a musical concert at Ikorodu Town Hall at about 2100hrs on the invitation of Soso Soberekon to promote De-General Bitters beverages.

“Mohbad arrived the venue of the event at about 1900hrs in company of his wife, Mrs Cynthia Omowumi Adebanjo and their 5months old baby; his childhood friend Ibrahim Oluwatosin Owoduni (Prime Boy), and Mohbad’s Personal Assistant, Adeyemo Boluwatife (Darosa) all of whom were in the Prado Jeep which was hired by Mohbad for the event and driven by Fidelix Esanbor.

“Others that accompanied Mohbad in separate vehicles include Ayobami Sadiq (Spending), Aduragbemi Shedrack Aloba, Mohbad’s younger brother; Ajisegiri Sultan Ayobami, Mohbad’s DJ; Aderinto Fawas Ademola (Adewest), Mohbad’s friend, and Olanrewaju Idris Adedoja (OG), his Photographer.

“Other musical acts that performed along with Mohbad at the show included Zlatan, Seun Kuti, and DJ Fokati.

“At the end of his performance at about 2300hrs, as he made to exit the venue with his entourage, he discovered that his vehicle had been blocked by other vehicles, while some of his fans and Area Boys also mobbed him. Mohbad who from witnesses’ evidence was said to be tipsy and hyperactive became infuriated and as he attempted to come down to clear the road, Ibrahim, his friend, prevailed on him not to for security reasons.

“This further infuriated Mohbad and degenerated into a hot argument and physical fight between the two of them. In the course of an attempt to hit Ibrahim with a blow, Mohbad missed and smashed the rare window of their Prado Jeep causing him an injury on his forehand and he bled profusely.

“Eventually, the situation was brought under control, and they all departed for the Lekki residence of Mohbad excluding Ibrahim.

“Upon arrival at home at about 0200hrs of 11th September, 2023, Mohbad refused to go to the hospital to treat his injury despite persistent persuasion by his wife, staff and friends including the Prado Jeep driver whose vehicle was damaged.

“Later in the day, the injured hand which was still bleeding, started getting swollen causing Mohbad unbearable pains. His friend Ayobami Sadiq (Spending), who noticed the increasing pains, further insisted that he must go to the hospital for treatment.

“Mohbad still resisted and opted to call his personal nurse identified as Nurse Funmi, who unfortunately was unavailable.

“At this point, Ayobami Sadiq (Spending) offered to call his own nurse, Ms Feyisayo Ogedengbe, to attend to Mohbad, a suggestion that he (Mohbad) consented to.

“When Ms Feyisayo was contacted at about 1430hrs on Monday 11th September, 2023, she was also unavailable but promised to come the following day, being Tuesday, 12th September, 2023.

“Ahead of her arrival, she requested that the picture of the swollen hand/injury area be snapped and forwarded to her for assessment and to guide on the medication to come along with. This was eventually done.

“At about 1435hrs on 12th September, 2023, Ms Feyisayo eventually arrived armed with 1 Pack of Ceftriaxone injection; 1 Vial Paracetamol injection, Tetanus Toxoid injection, 1 Vial Procaine Penicillin, 7 ampules of IM Diclofenac, Tincture Iodine, and Needles/Syringes.

“Ms Feyisayo administered the Tetanus Toxoid on the arm of Mohbad and gave both the Paracetamol and Ceftriaxone injection intravenously.

“Immediately the Ceftriaxone injection was administered, Ms Feyisayo confirmed that Mohbad started vomiting while goose bumps appeared on the face and all over his body.

“At this point, it dawned on Ms Feyisayo that Mohbad was reacting to the administered medication. She consequently ran out to procure hydrol and nisaline infusion. While at the Pharmacy in the locality, she got a call that Mohbad had started convulsing.

“Eventually, Cynthia Omoduni Adebanjo, Aduragbemi Shedrack Aloba, Olarewaju Idris Adedoja, Ayinde Habib Idowu Damola, Aderinto Fawas Ademola, and Ms. Feyisayo rushed him to the hospital in the vehicle of Engr. Chinaka Jesse, their neighbour.

“Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Cura-Med Hospital, Lekki. Not convinced, the team moved his body to Perez Hospital, Lekki where his death was re-certified. A death certificate was later issued by Cura-Med hospital.

“Mohbad’s father who had earlier been contacted, came to the Late Mohbad’s house and after a short meeting, resolved to move the body to Ikorodu for burial, which was done the following day, 13th September 2023 at about 1400hrs.”

Mohbad’s death triggered unprecedented protests within and outside Nigeria.

Bola Tinubu and Arise TV

The Federal  Government has issued a “Final Warning To Arise TV”.

In the letter the FG urged the TV station to have what it called a “delay mechanism to guard against undesirable contents.”

The Federal Government’s warning was issued through the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

It accused  Arise Television of making derogatory and incendiary remarks. The letter was signed by NBC’s Director General, Dr Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, and dated October 6, 2023.

Addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Arise Global Media Limited, it also urged Arise TV  “to keep to its responsibility of keeping its guest on check.”

The letter titled:

“Preponderance of derogatory and incendiary remarks: final warning” read in part:

“The NBC has observed with concern preponderance of incendiary remarks allowed on Arise news.

“This letter seeks to underscore the tremendous responsibility put on the broadcaster to manage the array of guest that may feature on the station from time to time.

“The commission listed the station’s morning show programme on 5th October anchored by Reuben Abati, Rufai Oseni and Ayo Maio-Ese, which featured Oladokun Hassan and Dele Farotimi as guests.

“The programme contained unguarded incendiary remarks by Dele Farotimi against the Legislature and the Executive, the Judiciary and Mr. President.

“The station was also accused of not keeping to its responsibility while airing its programme ”Newsday” which featured Kenneth Okonkwo, (Spokesperson of Labour Party) who used derogatory remarks on air.

“The Commission, therefore, drew the attention of the broadcast station to broadcast rule and code 1.10.3, 3.3.1(a), 3.3.3(c), 3.3.1 (e), 5.3.3(b) and 5.5.6.   Arise TV is advised to install a delay mechanism to guard against undesirable contents as prescribe in section 5.5.6 of the broadcasting code.”

The NBC is in the condemnable habit of imposing outrageous fines on Broadcast Stations on one flimsy excuse or the other.

Soyinka Tells Accusers Of Certificate Forgery To Jump Off River Niger Bridge

By Adesina Soyooye

It is not known why he chose River Niger over the Atlantic Ocean. But Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has asked those who accused him of forging his academic certificates to jump off the bridge of River Niger “as a token of moral recompense.”

The Professor had come under strong criticisms in the wake of his loud silence on the controversy surrounding the academic certificates of President Bola Tinubu  submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to participate in the February 25th Presidential Election.

As a follow-up to the criticisms, a couple of social media stories had emerged which dared question the authenticity of the Nobel Laureate’s certificates.

In a statement on Friday, Soyinka gave the purveyors of the story 30-day ultimatum to prove their allegations by providing evidence(s). If proved, he said he would strip himself of all academic laurels he has garnered. Otherwise, he asked them to “undertake to jump off the bridge of the symbolic River Niger, provided with life jackets to ensure a life of remorse after this ritual of purgation, but chained to one another in a commendable unity of purpose.”

Following is the full text of Soyinka’s statement titled “A Moral Call To Amoral Conscripts” which he released on Friday.

“A document of unmatchable scurrility, last encountered during General Sani Abacha’s global campaign of calumny against opponents of his despotic, infernally venal and homicidal reign, is back in circulation. Duly modified to suit a debased internet culture, it is making its grimy rounds ironically under the auspices of a democratic political party, supposedly dedicated to an ethos of freedom of opinion and expression. The contents of that script are attributed, as before, to the scholastic industry of a Bristol schoolteacher.

“While awaiting a decision from my lawyers whether or not to dignify the current sponsors of this mouldy tract with legal action, I wish to state in advance that I voluntarily waive all protection under the statute of limitations, and insist that the laws that govern fraudulent academic claims be invoked and applied to these allegations to the uttermost limit.  I also declare, in advance that, if found culpable, I shall strip myself of any titles and honours I may have garnered in my entire career, from the most obscure to the most coveted.

“In return, I expect the purveyors of this sordid material to submit all evidence, however minuscule, to the nation’s investigative agencies – Directorates of Prosecutions, EFCC, ICPC, plus affected institutions and others – within the next thirty days. Failing this elementary service in public interest within the stated time, and/or If such allegations are yet again proven baseless, thus indicating that their sponsors can boast of neither honours to their careers nor honour to their births and origins, then, as a token of moral recompense, they should undertake to jump off the bridge of the symbolic River Niger, provided with life jackets to ensure a life of remorse after this ritual purgation, but chained to one another in a commendable unity of purpose.

“This is being copied to the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria, Pan-African Writers Association, Accra, Nigeran Association of Authors, the Nobel Foundation, Stockholm, the University of Leeds, the alleged Bristol Primary Source and his school, and the infested media.”

Hope Uzodimma

Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma on Thursday commissioned another ultra- modern hospital built by his government at Omuma in Oru East Council, declaring that he wants his people to be healthy.

Oru East is one of the oil-producing local government areas in Imo State and the hospital, Michael Uzodimma Memorial Hospital, brings to three the number of such hospitals commissioned recently by the Governor.

All the hospitals were furnished to international standard to meet the primary health care delivery needs of patients in the rural areas seeking services therein.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, an elated Governor Uzodimma said that “the services being offered by the hospital are world-class.”

His added: “I want our people to be healthy. The body system is like a vehicle. If you don’t service your vehicle it will break down and if you service your vehicle, it will move.”

The Governor said that the Michael Uzodimma Memorial Hospital, Omuma will be managed by the Catholic Diocese of Orlu.

He also handed over the key to a brand new Ambulance to the management of the hospital.

Earlier while commissioning the ones located at Umuokanne in Ohaji Egbema and at Oguta, the Governor said Umuokanne would be manned by the Anglican Church while the Catholic Church will manage the one at Oguta, both,  “as strategic managers and partners with the state government.”

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Board of ISOPADEC, Eze Prof. Dele Amuzienwa Odigbo applauded Governor Uzodimma for the initiative to build the hospitals in the oil bearing Communities, noting that posterity will not forget him in a hurry.

He also used the opportunity to reassure the Governor that the affected communities will not only support his government, but will massively vote for him in the November 11 governorship election.

We Are Continuing With Peter Obi’s Legacy in Education – Soludo

Peter Obi and Charles Soludo

Nine years after leaving office as Governor of Anambra state, Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s good governance record continues to reverberate.

At the weekend, the Anambra State Government under Prof Charles Soludo praised the educational policy of Obi in Anambra state and pledged to continue with it.

Governor Soludo noted with commendation the significant educational contributions Obi made during his tenure. The Government observed that those remarkable achievements have continued to serve as a foundation for the ongoing educational development in the State.

Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, expressed these sentiments at the funeral mass for Chief Alexander Ejesieme, Snr., held at St. John’s Catholic Church, Agulu, at the weekend. He highlighted the enduring value of the educational reforms initiated by Peter Obi in the State and emphasized the importance of further advancing educational development. Additionally, the Deputy Governor revealed that Gov. Soludo recently allocated substantial funds to support mission schools in the State.

“I thank Mr. Peter Obi for his numerous legacies in the education sector, upon which we are building. Yesterday, Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo allocated the sum of N1.5 billion to missionary schools in the state as part of his administration’s efforts to sustain the quality of education in the state,” Ibezim said.

As a part of his efforts to transform education in the State, Mr. Peter Obi, in 2011, returned all mission schools to their original owners, the church, while guaranteeing adequate funding from the State government. Moreover, he bolstered these schools, both public and mission ones, with computers, libraries, Internet connectivity, generators, and laboratory equipment. Additionally, he made sure that each secondary school in the State received school buses and other essential academic resources.

Army Debunks Allegation Of Shooting At Protesters In Rivers State

Contrary to speculations making the rounds that the 6th Division, Nigeria Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, shot at Protesters and manhandled Youths and Women at Rumuekpe Community, Emuoha Local Government  the Army said nothing of that nature took place.

The Nigeria Army through the Acting Deputy Director, Public Relations, 6th Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Major Jonah Danjuma Jonah in a statement issued said that the situation in Rumuekpe was an attempt by some miscreants who disguised as protesters to take the laws into their hands.

Major Danjuma said even though the ‘miscreants’ barricaded the road and attempted to stop troops on routine patrol access to a flow station where they were providing security, soldiers did not shoot to disperse them.

He noted that the allegations against the army were false and malicious, and said the troops are trained professionals who conduct themselves by adhering to the rules of engagement with respect for the rights of citizens, adding that he was at the scene and saw things for himself.

He stated, “I’m sure you are aware of the situation at Rumuekpe, where there was an attempt by some miscreants who disguised as protesters to take the laws into their hands.

“I was there; these miscreants barricaded the road leading into the community and attempted to stop troops on routine patrol access to a flow station where they are providing security from carrying out their responsibilities.

“The allegation that troops shot at peaceful protesters is illogical, malicious, and totally untrue. It is false and must be disregarded.

“Our troops are well-trained professionals who conduct themselves and operations by adhering to the rules of engagement and utmost respect for the fundamental human rights of the citizenry.

“So, there is no iota of doubt in what they are alleging. Good a thing I was there and if they have any evidence that what they are alleging happened, they should provide us with such evidence.”

While urging members of the public to disregard what he termed an ‘illogical allegation’, the spokesman said ”it is a futile attempt to malign the reputation of the Nigerian Army.

“I will reassure the good people of Rivers State, particularly Rumuekpe and environs to go about their normal businesses as no criminal gang would be allowed freedom of action to operate in the area,” he added.

It will be recalled that Executive Director of the Youths and Advocacy Centre, Fyneface Dumnamene in a statement issued in Port Harcourt alleged that two persons were rushed to the hospital while the whereabouts of a third person allegedly injured by the soldiers at the scene of the protest was unknown.

Also, some of the protesters alleged that in a bid to disperse them, the troops destroyed canopies they erected and seized their electronic equipment.

It was also gathered that some people in Rumuekpe, including women and elders in the community have been protesting the alleged failure of multinational companies operating in their community to meet their demands.

APC Chieftain Says Amaechi Never Ordered APC Members To Vote Against President Tinubu

0

By Akinwale Kasali

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi is not in the good books of a faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State and it seems the same at the  national level. This follows allegations that he worked against the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the February 25th Presidential Election.

But, this has been debunked by Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a Chieftain of the Party in the State. Eza stated that Amaechi could not have ordered members and supporters of the party in the State to vote against President Tinubu, during the 2023 Presidential election.

It will be recalled that Amaechi contested against President Tinubu in the APC Presidential Primary in Abuja, but he lost to the former Lagos State Governor.

He was second in the Primary won by Tinubu.

Eze, while reacting to a statement credited to a factional leader of the APC in the State, Tony Okocha, accused  him of carrying out of smear campaign against Amaechi.

Okocha, who led a delegation to the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje alleged that prior to the election, Amaechi called a meeting where he informed them that he had struck a deal with the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and directed them to vote the PDP against the Party’s candidate, Bola Tinubu.

However, in a media statement on Friday, Eze said the claim peddled by Okocha was fictitious and a cocktail of lies consciously schemed against Amaechi by adversaries who see such engagement as necessary to please their pay masters.

He said that Okocha was never a member of the APC during the period leading to the election and had no insight into the workings.

Further, the APC chief commended the party’s National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, for disappointing the people he described as Wike’s conflict mercenaries, Okocha and company, who had gone to meet him.

Eze said the meeting was to seek Ganduje’s approval to proceed with their onslaught through campaigns of calumny against Amaechi and the mainstream APC State Executive in Rivers.

“Okocha and his team were disappointed when Abdullahi Ganduje cautioned them not to over-heat the polity and allow the leadership of the party at the centre work out modalities to calm frayed nerves and resolve every issue affecting the party in the state before delving into constituting another party structure in the state,” he said.

He reiterated that Wike, Okocha, or any member in their circle cannot remove Amaechi from APC, as he remains a founding member of the Party.

Kogi Guber: Tinubu Storms Confluence State For APC Candidate Sunday

0

The Kogi All Progressive Congress, APC, governorship Campaign rally will be flagged off on Sunday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the ruling party has said.

Usman Ododo, the APC governorship candidate is seeking to succeed the outgoing Governor Yahaya Bello.

The party made this known on Friday in a statement signed by Kingsley Fanwo, the Campaign Spokesperson/ Director, Media and Publicity, Kogi APC Governorship Campaign Council.

Apart from the president, other chieftains of the party expected at the event include, Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of APC, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, and Chairman, APC National Campaign Council for Kogi Governorship Election, amongst others.

Fanwo said APC remains a party to beat in the state, adding that the rally will be used to make a statement that the state belonged to the ruling APC.

The statement said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the National Leader of the party, His Excellency Alhaji Dr Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of our great party;  Prince Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State and Chairman, APC National Campaign Council for Kogi Governorship Election, shall be leading other leaders of the party, esteemed members of our party and the general public to the epoch-making event to start our journey to victory on November 11, 2023.

“The ultra-modern Mohammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, one of the aesthetic beauties of the GYB administration, will play host to the event, starting from 10 am.

“The Kogi State APC Governorship Campaign Council has put modalities in place to ensure a hitch-free Flagoff Rally.

“On Sunday, the 8th of October, 2023, our party will make a big statement ahead of the election as Kogi remains APC and APC is Kogi State.”

The state governorship election is one of the off-season elections to be held in November this year. Apart from Kogi, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is expected to conduct governorship elections in Imo and Bayelsa states next month.

Meanwhile, watchers of the ruling APC insist that the governorship election in the three states would serve as a litmus test for President Tinubu and the APC after the party swept to power on May 29, 2023.

Petrol: NNPC Urges Nigerians To Ignore Price Hike Rumour; Landing Cost Hits N720 P/L

0

No plan to increase the current pump price of Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited.

The company made the clarification following the suggestion that a new price hike was imminent due to the rising price of crude oil and the scarcity of the dollar.

Some petroleum markers, had, on Wednesday said the current price of N620 per litre is no longer sustainable under the present situation, claiming that the landing cost of the product has gone as high as N720 per litre.

The marketers under the aegis of the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, said some filling stations are being shut down due to the shortage of the product, pleading with the government to intervene

NNPC however denied planning a new price hike, in a statement published on X on Friday.

The terse statement said, “Dear esteemed customers, we at NNPC Retail value your patronage, and we do not have the intention to increase our PMS pump prices as widely speculated.”

Since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, declaring that “fuel subsidy is gone“, the NNPC has increased its prices at least twice, now costing three times the cost at the time: below N200 per litre.

Speaking at the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of NOGASA, yesterday, its president, Benneth Korie, said a lot of depots were running out of stock.

He also lamented commercial banks’ refusal to give out loans to marketers to purchase the product.

Korie said, “Depot owners are so terribly affected by the increasing cost of crude oil and exchange rate, to the extent that many depots are practically deserted as their owners are unable to secure bank loans to fund their business due to high-interest rates.

“Banks are not willing to guarantee funds release to stakeholders as a result of the difficulty, instability and galloping rates of foreign exchange and high cost of the dollar. Many depots are presently dried up or out of stock, and this is no gainsaying as it is evidently verifiable.”

He explained further that,  “Worst hit are filling stations whose owners find it extremely difficult to secure funds to procure products for their retail outlets. Both the independent and major marketers are so terribly affected.

“As of today, filling stations are shutting down in great numbers on a daily basis and dealers are going out of business, with many more on the verge of bankruptcy because of their inability to secure funds to facilitate orders for their stations.”

The magazine observed that some petrol stations have shut down in Lagos due to the non-availability of the product. Some marketers who spoke said Nigerians should brace up for scarcity ahead the festive period id nothing is done quickly by the government.

Tinubu’s Presidential Victory In Rivers State, A Miracle – Ganduje; “Wike Is Our Leader” – APC Faction

0

By Charles Igbo

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has described the victory of the Party in Rivers State in the February 25, 2023 Presidential Election as nothing but a miracle. That miraculous feat, Ganduje said, was performed by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The Minister was the Governor of the State during the Presidential Election.

Ganduje made this statement when a faction of the Rivers APC, led by Tony Okocha, paid him a courtesy visit. During the visit, Okocha, who was the Chief of Staff to the immediate past Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, when he was Rivers State Governor,  conferred on Wike the title of Leader of the APC in Rivers State.

For the records, Wike is, according to him, still a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but turned rogue during the Presidential Election and worked for the Presidential victory of the then APC Candidate, Bola Tinubu.

During the visit to Ganduje, Okocha, obviously in reference to an earlier visit to the National Chairman by the other faction of the Party led by its Governorship Candidate, Tonye Cole, told Ganduje to deal with Wike and shun other persons  “parading as leaders and members of the party in the state.”

He dismissed them as impostors who worked against Tinubu’s  Presidential victory Tinubu in the State. He said they lack the morals to “visit the APC national secretariat to ask for appointments in a government they worked against.”

Said Okocha: “We pray, Mr Chairman, to discountenance the machinations of the pretenders, who via hues and cries and trumping up lies, want to negate the natural law that aptly recommends that ‘one reaps where the one sows.’

“Those persons never supported the party nor are they sincere in their hearts, to be happy that President Tinubu made it to the Presidency.

“Mr Chairman, we summarise that the only group in APC Rivers state legitimate to seek compensation for the victory of APC/Tinubu in RIvers state, is the one here. Please contact us through the leader of the political infantry in Rivers state, who is serving in the federal cabinet presently.”

Ganduje, in his response agreed that the victory of the  APC and President Tinubu during the Presidential Election was miraculous, and attributed it to Wike. “Wike must have been the messiah used in actualising the victory”, he said.

Ganduje: “There is no doubt River state is a very important state in Nigeria, an oil state and also a reasonable population, which is an asset for election and an asset to any political party. So you can see how we cannot rubbish the State. Rivers, as a State in politics, is a very important state.

“In summary, our party in River state is highly fictionalised, that is a fact about it. Our party in Rivers state was killed by litigations, that one is a fact. And one important question that you asked is how come we won presidential election and lost state election. You said that was a miracle. Yes, if you say a miracle, there must be a messiah.

“We have to thank and congratulate you over the positive outcome of the election and what you did was as a result of what we are enjoying now because without winning Federal Election across many states, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed could not have become the President of this country.

“We have to congratulate you for that. What we are saying, is that yes, there is confusion in the Party, but we don’t want members to overheat the system. We are focused, we are organised, we work scientifically in politics.

“Therefore, give us an enabling environment, give us a chance so that we can put a round peg in a round hole, square peg in a square hole to maintain our dignity as a party.

“We have to capitalize on what we have, we have to capitalize on the fact that we have won the National Election in River state.

“We are not extracting anything less again, but give us a chance to see how we can have both the State and the National Election together. Whatever it is, we have received your address, and the party will come in and see how we can get a solid party leadership that we can move forward.

“But what we are begging is do not overheat the system. In overheating the system, some will go for litigation and then a vicious cycle will come again. We don’t want too much analysis because they say too much analysis leads to paralysis. So give us a chance so that we can consult, so that we look at the constitution of APC and then we wait and see how we can put things in order.”

Recall that while the APC won Rivers State in the Presidential Election, the PDP won in all other elections, including the National Assembly Election which was held same day as the Presidential election.

Not a few people have described the outcome of the Elections in the State as not only a miracle but controversial.

For pulling off that feat for the APC,  Wike was rewarded by President Tinubu with a Ministerial appointment.
