Nobody can quite explain what the problem was. But according to eye-witnesses, it was like a movie when a Private, who  was on guard duty at a retired General’s residence   in Kano, with his superior, a Sergeant, shot  and killed him.

 

According to SaharaReporters which first broke the story, the

deceased officer, was identified as Sergeant Suleiman.

 

Sources disclosed that the suspect, attached to 21NA, allegedly fired at  the Sergeant after an altercation between them.

 

Said the source according to Sahara Reporters: “Both of them were guarding the residence of a retired General in Kano. The deceased was a Sergeant while the suspect is a Private from 21NA. The CCTV footage reportedly exposed him. They had an argument, after which the Sergeant entered the restroom. As he was coming out, the Private allegedly fired at him three times.”

 

A source also said that the suspect has just been redeployed from Borno State to Kano. In Kano, he had participated insurgency.

 

Said the source: “I know this accused soldier from Maiduguri, but I can’t remember his name. He is a Private and from 21NA.”

 

At the time of filing this report, there has been no statement from the Army.

Nigeria’s flagship carrier,  Air Peace, has disclosed  that its scheduled May 13 Lagos–London Gatwick flight returned to base (Lagos) mid-air because of an operational disruption.

The Airline, in a statement, said it encountered airspace access  obstacle which involved aviation authorities in an unnamed African country. Meaning: it was denied over-flying access into that country’s airspace.

In the statement, the Management  explained  that its aircraft was forced to return safely to Lagos in line with international aviation safety procedures.

The disruptive  incident occurred while the aircraft was en route to London Gatwick from Lagos.

It said: “Air Peace wishes to inform the flying public that its scheduled Lagos–London Gatwick service of May 13, 2026, experienced an operational disruption following enroute access issues involving the airspace authorities of an African country.

“As a result of the development and the need for immediate operational clarification with the relevant authorities, the aircraft safely returned to Lagos in accordance with established international aviation procedures.”

Air Peace added that the affected London Gatwick service was rescheduled just as efforts are being made to sort out the issue.

National Judicial Council (NJC) has rejected appeals filed by eight Imo State judges seeking reversal of their compulsory retirement over alleged age falsification.

The affected judges include Justices B.C. Iheka, K.A. Leaweanya, Okereke Chinyere Ngozi, Innocent Chidi Ibeawuchi, Ofoha Uchenna, Everyman Eleanya, Rosemond Ibe, and T.N. Nzeukwu.

NJC, in a statement issued late Thursday by its Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, said the decision was taken at the NJC’s 111th meeting held on May 13, 2026, under the Chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

However, the Council reinstated Justice T.I. Nze of the Customary Court of Appeal after fresh evidence presented before the review committee was found to be authentic.

The NJC also suspended Justice Ibrahim D. Shekarau of the Nasarawa State High Court for one year without pay over judicial misconduct linked to the grant of an ex parte order.

The Council found that he failed to observe due process and acted in breach of the Revised Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers.

Similarly, Justice Edward A.E. Okpe of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory was suspended for one year without pay over breach of fair hearing in a matrimonial case.

The Council considered 13 investigation reports on petitions against judicial officers, dismissing eight for lack of merit, want of diligent prosecution or being time-barred.

It also reviewed 98 petitions submitted by its Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committees, dismissing 68 for lack of merit.

Four Judges were cautioned, one received a final warning, and 11 petitions were recommended for further investigation.

The NJC also referred some petitioners and lawyers to relevant disciplinary bodies over alleged frivolous and unsupported petitions.

The NJC commended nine Judges for exemplary performance during the 2024 and 2025 legal years.

Two Judges are to receive letters of commendation for delivering more than 21 considered judgments within the review period, while seven others will receive letters of appreciation.

The Council also approved retirement notices for some judicial officers and expressed condolences over the deaths of three judges recorded between December 2025 and April.

NJC on vacant Judicial positions, recommended the appointment of 12 new Justices of the Court of Appeal to President Bola Tinubu.

The recommendations were made to fill vacancies created by the elevation and retirement of judicial officers.

Those recommended for elevation to the Court of Appeal are Justices Abdulhammeed Mohammed Yakubu, Monisola Oluwatoyin Abodunde, Raphael Ajuwa, Elias Ojie Abua, Mbalamen Jennifer Ijohor, Sabiu Bala Shuaibu, James Kolawole Omotosho, Emeka Nwite, Dauda Njane Buba, Sanusi Kado, Ademola Enikuomehin, and Julcit Veronica Dadom.

The Council also recommended Christine T. Clement Ende for appointment as a Judge of the Benue State High Court.

Ibrahim Abdullahi Yakubu and Bala Salisu Daura were recommended as Kadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal, Katsina State.

The Council also adopted a policy clarifying the eligibility of retired public servants for judicial appointment.

It stated that the 1999 Constitution, as amended, does not bar retired public servants from being appointed to the Bench.

According to the NJC, the decision was guided by judicial precedent, particularly Ayoola v. Baruwa, where the Court of Appeal affirmed that no constitutional provision prevents a retired legal practitioner from judicial appointment.

Under the new policy, retired public servants seeking judicial appointment must have at least 10 years of service remaining before reaching the mandatory judicial retirement age

They must also disclose any criminal conviction, full employment history, reasons for leaving previous employment, existing obligations and financial status.

The Council extended the appointment of Justice Ijeoma Agugua as Acting Chief Judge of Imo State for another three months, from March 26 to June 26, 2026.

The NJC said the extension would allow the state to complete the process of appointing a substantive Chief Judge.

It also commended Justice Ononeze-Madu for declining to be sworn in contrary to established constitutional procedure.

Ekiti Police Command Dismisses Drug Addicted Sergeant

Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed a Sergeant over his erratic behaviour on social media.

A statement on Friday by the command’s spokesman Sunday Abutu, explained that the decision was taken after Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope underwent psychological and medical tests.

Abutu’s statement reads “Ekiti State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has concluded the psychological and medical test, as well as the disciplinary procedures of one Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope, who was found behaving erratically in a video circulating on the Social media.

“The unfortunate and ridiculous incident happened at Ikole-Ekiti on the 9th of May, 2026 after the Officer allegedly consumed some illicit drugs.

“He was immediately subjected to a medical test and a psychological evaluation.

“The psychological evaluation revealed that the Officer is emotionally stable. Meanwhile, the medical test showed that the Officer tested positive for Tobacco and Amphetamine.

“During further enquiries, the Officer confessed to have taken some illicit drugs.

“Internal disciplinary procedures have been concluded and the Officer has been found culpable.

“He was recommended for dismissal and the recommendation upheld. The Command hereby, confirms his dismissal which shall take immediate effect.

“The Command states that the Force remains a disciplined organization, and will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, unprofessional practice or any act that could ridicule the image of the Force.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, charged Officers of the Command to uphold discipline, professionalism, accountability, integrity and ensure total dedication to their statutory duties of protecting lives and property.”

Current Africa’s second richest man, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has narrated how he faced humiliation and inexplicable discrimination in South Africa for no other reason other than being a black man, and perhaps, a Nigerian.

Rabiu is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the BUA Group.

He narrated the story of his embarrassment on Thursday while presenting his paper Africa at scale: Capital, policy, and the architecture of growth at the ongoing Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali Rwanda.

According to Rabiu, the incident occurred in February of 2025 when he travelled to Cape Town from Lagos for the Mining Indaba. He said that he arrived the Airport, unknowingly, with an expired visa and was asked to go back. He was refused entry and turned back by the Immigration Officers over his visa. He took responsibility for his expired visa. But his shock and humiliation were complete when European travellers who arrived the Airport  with the same problem of expired visas were allowed in.

But, in his case, he was left stranded at the Airport for hours, and, finally, returned to Lagos  while the “Whites” (with same problem) were cleared to enter South Africa.

His words: “I had a personal experience. Last year February, I was travelling to Cape Town for the Mining Indaba. I left at night from Lagos to Cape Town. We arrived at 6 in the morning.

“As we arrived, we went to the immigration, I tendered my passport, and the immigration officer looked at it and was like, ‘where is your visa?’ And I said: ‘My visa is there.’ Unknown to me, my visa had expired the day before.

“Unfortunately, our crew did not check the visa to ensure the visas were valid. We were there for four hours, but at end of the day, I had to turn back. I was turned back to Lagos.

“But the issue is this: While we were waiting to see whether we would be able to get access to the country without the visas, there were like three international flights from Europe. All three flights were mostly Europeans.

“I was standing there by the immigration desk, and every passenger on those three flights went into Cape Town without any visa.

“I do not have a problem with the fact that I was there without the visa and I was returned. I took full responsibility of that.

“I had an issue with being an African in Africa, being turned away because I do not have a visa, and foreigners from other continents were coming in and were allowed to enter without a visa. This must change.”

Rabiu’s narration of his experience came at a time when South Africans are harassing, persecuting and killing other Africans, especially Nigerians, and ordering them out of their country, insisting that they have taken over their jobs, and, for some, unbelievably, their girlfriends!

Makinde’s Presidential Ambition Dead On Arrival- Wike

Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has slammed Governor Seyi over his presidential ambition, saying the idea is dead on arrival.
The Minister also dismissed the supposed alliance between the Makinde-led Peoples Democratic party and the APM, describing the action as a ‘419’.
Wike, made the remark during the inspection of ongoing road projects in Gomani-Yangoji, Kwali Area Council, Abuja, saying the alliance is fraudulent and unknown to the authority, particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC which he said  had no knowledge about the alliance.
Governor Makinde had, on Thursday declared his presidential ambition under the APM, saying he the PDP faction under his control has formed an alliance with the APM ahead the 2027 election.
The Minister, however, describe Governor Makinde as fraud saying the PDP has not formed any alliance with either APM or any other political parties in the country, noting that the PDP will soon announce its own presidential candidate to Nigerians.
He stressed that Governor Makinde presidential ambition is dead on arrival.
Wike: “When I say people are fraudulent, they think I am joking. And that is the 419 we are talking about.
“There is no alliance between PDP and Allied Peoples Movement or any other political party, as the case may be. INEC also knows that there is nothing called a PDP-APM alliance.
“What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to be able to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival.”
Wike, the magazine recalls has vowed to support President Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Gbajabiamila: Tinubu Almost Sacked Me Because Of Desmond Elliot

Finally, the reason why Desmond Elliot, Nollywood Actor-turned Politician, is being denied a return to the Lagos State House of Assembly has been revealed.

It is not because he is seeking a record fourth-time return. It is because he miscalculated in the affairs of the Assembly, and backed the wrong  horse.


Making this public for the first time, his political godfather, Femi Gbajabiamila, who is, also, the

Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu further disclosed  how he almost lost his job in the Presidency because of Elliot’s alleged involvement in the 2025 Lagos State House of Assembly crisis which led to the short-lived impeachment of Mudasiru Obasa, the Speaker of this Assembly.


Elliot is the Lawmaker representing Surulere 1 State Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

 

Gbajabiamila spoke on Thursday during  a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, where he pointedly accused Elliot of involvement in Obasa’s January 2025 impeachment.

 

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said his job was put on the line because of Elliot involvement in the impeachment saga, saying his closeness to President Tinubu was what saved him from being sacked.

 

Recall that  Speaker Obasa’s impeachment was aborted following the intervention of Presidential Tinubu, who ordered members of the Assembly to reverse their action.

 

Eliot was among the Lawmakers who spearheaded that impeachment, Gbajabiamila said, adding that even when he called Elliot to back-off, the Lawmaker failed to listen to him.

 

According to Gbajabiamila, President Tinubu had called him to a meeting where he broached the issue and later ordered him to call Elliot to “order” over his support for Obasa’s impeachment.

 

He explained that the Surulere lawmaker refused to listen to him, and stated that people thought he, Gbajabiamila, was part of the impeachment plot because Elliot is his political godson.

 

He stressed that he defended Elliot not knowing that the Lawmaker was neck deep in the plot to impeach Obasa.

 

“I almost lost my job because of Desmond Elliot last year. You can go and verify. The President invited me to his residence in Abuja during the Obasa saga and confronted me over reports linking Elliot to the crisis, ”  he said.

 

“Mr President called me to his study in Abuja and said, ‘I hear this Desmond is your boy.’ I said, ‘Yes, sir.’ He then said Desmond was among those causing problems in the Lagos State House of Assembly,” he stated.

 

Gbajabiamila said he defended the lawmaker without knowing that Elliot was involved in the plot.

 

“I told the President that Desmond was not part of them, but the President insisted and told me to call him to order,” he added.

 

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives further disclosed that shortly after the meeting, he contacted Elliot and warned him to steer clear of the crisis.

 

“Three days later, the Director-General called me and said there was a serious issue, that my name was everywhere as the person supporting Desmond to push for impeachment,” he said.


A couple of days ago, Elliot had issued a public apology to Gbajabiamila without saying exactly what he did wrong. The apology came when he confirmed that the rug has been pulled from under his feet and that another has been anointed in his place.

Governor Hope Uzodimma has urged aspirants from Imo State seeking tickets for the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress (APC) to embrace loyalty, discipline and sacrifice ahead of the Party primaries that kicks off Friday, May 15, 2026.

 

Speaking during a meeting with aspirants, leaders and stakeholders of the Party in Imo State Thursday, May 14, 2026 at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Owerri, Uzodimma described politics as “not a lottery but a game of courage,” stressing that “some people will win and some will not.”

 

The Governor who warned against desperation, urged aspirants to remain committed to the Party before, during and after the primaries.

 

 “There is a need for loyalty to the Party. That is what our partisan democracy requires,” he said.

 

Even though Uzodimma acknowledged that political contestation could be akin to a game, he warned aspirants to weigh all the risks before throwing their hats in the ring, warning, “don’t use the money meant for your children’s school fees to buy form if you cannot bear the risk.”

 

He also called for respect for zoning and equity principles, noting that the Party would adopt Option A4 voting system in the primaries to ensure transparency and avoid accusations of favoritism where consensus did not work.

 

As a guide for a successful and rancour-free exercise, Uzodimma advised aspirants and stakeholders to respect equity and rotation formula where such exists in their communities, and assured that the APC Committee for the conduct of Primaries as well as Appeal Committee have also been set up to deal with the exercise and handle grievances arising from the primaries.

 

The Governor regretted that the number of aspirants to the different office was quite large hence the need for reason to apply in ensuring that the primaries are conducted in a manner that it will turn out to be a win win situation for the State and the Party.

 

“We don’t want Imo State to go back to Egypt,” he added.

 

The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Austin Onyedebelu reaffirmed the Party’s commitment to unity, reconciliation, and electoral success ahead of future elections. 

 

He said the State Executive Committee had taken steps to reposition the Party for “greater efficiency, unity and service.”

 

Onyedebelu acknowledged grievances arising from Party primaries but said reconciliation mechanisms had been activated to ensure harmony among members.

 

He used the opportunity to commend Uzodimma for approving the construction of a new state-of-the-art APC Secretariat, describing it as a lasting legacy for the Party in Imo State, while he praised the Governor for the feat achieved in infrastructure development of the State. 

 

Senators Osita Izunaso, Patrick Ndubueze and Ezenwa Onyewuchi took turns to speak on behalf of aspirants to the Senate to align with the laid down principles of the Party and pledged unwavering loyalty to the APC leadership at both State and National levels.

 

Others who spoke include, Rt. Hon Princess Miriam Onuoha and Rt. Hon Amara Iwuanyanwu for aspirants to the House of Representatives and House of Assembly respectively, while Prince Lemmy Akakem spoke on behalf of leaders of the Party. 

 

All pledged to accept and support “whatever decision the Party takes” in the interest of the members. They also pledged their unalloyed loyalty and confidence in the leadership of Governor Uzodimma regarding the Imo APC.

 

Present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor of the State, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru and her husband, Sir Chukwuma Ekomaru, the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Fresh $1.25 Billion World Bank Loan: Tinubu Running A Ponzi Economy – ADC

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, on Thursday May 14, 2026, expressed renewed concern over what it described as the growing level of Nigeria’s cumulative public debt profile.

 

This is as the opposition Coalition platform accused President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government of running a ” ponzi economy” using fresh loans to service old ones .

 

The party, in a statement issued by Bolaji Abdullahi, its spokesperson, expressed shock that the All Progressive Congress APC-led Federal Government has moved to secure a fresh $1.25 billion World Bank loan, despite the already precarious debt situation  of the country.

 

According to the  ADC, Nigeria’s public debt has hit the alarming threshold of about N159.28 trillion, with inflationary gap hitting the rooftop.

 

The party equally raised concern that trillions of Naira which should have been channeled into the provisions of good roads, hospitals, electricity, and adequate security, are now being expended on debit servicing.

 

The ADC, also, described as even more worrisome the speed and scale of the borrowing, noting that the Tinubu administration since inception has secured multiple World Bank facilities and other loans running into several billions of dollars.

 

The party emphasized that these multiple loans have regrettably brought about an ugly and disturbing situation where the country, according to the Tinubu administration’s projection will be spending a whopping $11.6 billion in debt servicing in 2026 alone.

 

“The African Democratic Congress, ADC, is deeply alarmed by the Tinubu administration’s latest move to seek another fresh $1.25 World Bank loan, coming barely weeks after the National Assembly approved yet another round of external borrowing running into billions of dollars.

 

“At this point, Nigerians must ask a simple question: if this Government keeps borrowing trillions of naira every few months, why are Nigerians getting poorer, and why is life getting harder for the majority?

 

“Today, Nigeria’s total public debt has risen to about N159.28 trillion, yet food prices continue to rise daily, electricity tariffs are increasing, the Naira remains weak, businesses are shutting down, insecurity is spreading, and millions of young Nigerians remain unemployed.

 

“Families are cutting down meals, manufacturers are struggling to survive and small businesses are collapsing under the weight of inflation and poor economic conditions.

 

” This is why the ADC says the Tinubu administration is running a ponzi economy where new loans are constantly being taken to service old debts, and cover fiscal failures, while Nigerians are left to carry the burden.

 

“It is noteworthy that President Bola Tinubu himself has declared that Nigeria will spend about $11.6 billion, over N15 trillion on debt servicing alone in 2026.

 

” In simple terms, Trillions of Naira that should have been gone into roads, hospitals, schools, electricity, security, agriculture,and job creation will, instead, go into paying creditors and servicing old loans.

 

“The Government removed fuel subsidy, devalued the Naira, increased electricity tariffs, and imposed painful economic policies on citizens, promising that temporary sacrifice would lead to long-term recovery.

 

“Some of the loans are ostensibly obtained to cushion the impacts of these harsh policies. Instead, Nigerians have continued to suffer one of the worst cost-of-living crises in recent history, while the Government continues to pile on more debts” the ADC stated.

 

The party expressed disappointment that the National Assembly, in the midst of the reckless borrowings, has remained complicit, rubber- stamping the mounting debt profile.

 

The party warned that Nigeria cannot continue to mortgage the future of unborn generations simply to service the gluttonous appetite of the the present administration.

 

“At some point, somebody will pay for all these borrowings and, sadly, ordinary Nigerians are already paying through hunger, inflation, unemployment, business closures and a collapsing standard of living”, ADC added.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

He made the declaration on Thursday during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid growing political realignments in the State, following internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.

Makinde, maintained that the time has come  to reset Nigeria.

The mega-rally also witnessed an alliance between the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement, (APM).

The governor, who expressed worry over the dwindling fortunes of Nigerians, said it was time for the people to engage the system and not stand by as spectators.

He said: “Without a multi-party system, there is no democracy. Where is our multi-party? “Where do we go from here?

“We have been pushed to the wall. The calculated and self opposition cannot unite, but I am here to say that the opposition is the everyday Nigerian.

“This is the time for all us to ensure Nigeria works for us. This is the time to confront its fears. It is time to engage as citizens and not spectators.

“For the opposition political parties, this is the time to unite and work in unity and give our nation the much reset it needs.

“The time to reset Nigeria is now. Ibadan is the city of warriors. The first grand alliance is formed.

“The PDP and APM is formed. This handshake will allow us to field candidates from presidency to State Assembly.”

The Governor, who hinted that the PDP-APM alliance will field candidates from Presidency to State House of Assembly, said: “And so, I declare my candidacy for office of the president of Nigeria.”
