Former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George,  has once again criticized the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration for failing to fulfill his election campaign promise to Nigerians.

Chief George who has over the years been an antagonist of President Tinubu even before his 2023 Presidential Election triumph at the polls, said this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

According to him, Tinubu needs to fulfill his promises before Nigerians can be encouraged to speak positively of their country.

He  appealed to President Tinubu to address the sufferings of the masses and the economic woes of the nation.

He however urged Nigerians to pray for the nation despite what they are presently encountering in the country.

The elder statesman said that President Tinubu’s speech is very heart-warming but Nigerians would want him to translate what he said into giving hope to them.

He said, “Those are all appeals, what should follow is let there be some methodology economically, physically to ensure that you give hope to the people, especially young people who have no jobs, no future, no hope; that is what drives people in the opposite direction.

“And once there is abject poverty in the land, people will remain angry. I feel for our people and I want him (Tinubu) to translate what he has said which is quite heart-warming into giving the people a lot of hope.

“If there is no hope when you wake up in the morning, you don’t even know where you are going to go, you are not running for any job, you are not doing anything, to get a meal in a day was hell, people will resort in different directions,” he said.

George also appealed to President Tinubu to reduce the security tension in the country.

George was of the opinion that there is no way the 1999 Constitution would solve the issue of insecurity in the country.

According to him, the constitution should be revisited and the issue of establishing state police be taken seriously as it will complement the national police.

Labour Party, LP, Presidential Candidate in the 2023 General Election, Peter Obi, has faulted the National Chairman of the Party, Julius Abure, who was “re-elected” into office at the Party’s National Convention on Wednesday for failing to carry major stakeholders of the Party along. He also accused him of failing to make wide consultation before embarking on the Convention.

The former Anambra State Governor said that there was need for the right thing to be done to salvage the party, but added that he is more passionate about building a new Nigeria than building a new Labour Party.

Obi was absent at the Convention and thus spiked speculations about the next move of the former Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the 2019 Presidential Election.

Some Political observers had said that he was planning to leave the Party and strategize ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election.

But Obi, in explaining his absence at the Convention on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts said:

“We promised to build Nigeria, we did not promise to build a New Labour Party.”

He also threw his weight behind the call for a structure for the ‘OBIdient’ movement.

“It is the standard practice around the world where movements form themselves into blocs and are part of the political process,” he added.

How Zik Prevented The Plan To  Annihilate  Igbo During The Nigerian Civil War – Jim Nwobodo

Jim Nwobodo

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

Former Governor of old  Anambra State, Chief  Jim Nwobodo, on Friday, March 29, 2024, relieved some of the sad sides of the Nigeria civil war. He insisted that but for the intervention of late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe the igbo, as a nation, would have been annihilated.

The Elder Statesman who spoke when he received in audience the Management team of Awka Museum Foundation at his Amechi Awkunanaw Enugu Country home recounted how a crucial tripartite meeting among Dr Azikiwe ,General Yakubu Gowon then Head of State of Nigeria ,and Liberian president William Tubman eventually led to the stoppage of the massive killing of igbos ,and ended the civil war.

Chief Nwobodo a former Senator, said his reminiscence on the important roles played by Dr Azikiwe in preventing what could have led to an annihilation of the Igbo race was because the tag of  “saboteur” attached to  the great Nigerian Nationalist during the war by some Biafara leaders .

The former old Anambra State Governor remarked that Dr Azikiwe leverage his global perception as the most influential Nigerian, during the civil war  to get some African leaders particularly President Tubman of Liberia to convoke a meeting with General Gowon and others which resulted in the Nigerian Government accepting to halt any further killings of Igbo.

“One day I asked him (Zik) why are some people calling you a saboteur. He smiled and said “If not for me ,there may not be any Igbo man alive today .

“Ojukwu had invited Dr Azikiwe, for a meeting in Portugal, and when he arrived ,two security operatives were detailed to carry out close monitoring of his movements..

“So whereever Zik went those security operatives followed him, feeding Ojukwu with information about where he went ,what he said and did.

“When he, Zik ,wanted to leave, he approached Ralph Uwechie and informed him . Uwechie being aware of the security ring around Zik sold a dummy to the security operatives by giving them money to buy something outside.

“That gave Zik the opportunity to leave without being followed by the security details, and he made another decoy by claiming that he was going to ease himself.

“Dr Azikiwe told me that he didn’t want to do that initially, but had to because he couldn’t understand why Ojukwu will invite him to a  meeting abroad and surrounded him with security operatives when he wasn’t a thief and criminal ”

According to Senator Nwobodo, from there Dr Azikiwe proceeded to London where after a brief stay in hiding at his daughter’s residence, the meeting between him and President Tubman of Liberia was held.

Nwobodo noted that after meeting Dr Azikiwe, President Tubman made efforts to contact General Gowon who he said accepted to attend a scheduled meeting with Azikiwe and others on how to bring an end to the Nigerian civil war.

“At that meeting , Dr Azikiwe told Gowon that he would not want to see any further killings . Gowon accepted ,and that was how the entire process that led to the end of the war began,” Nwobodo stated
