Kano Govt Behind Ganduje’s Suspension-APC

0

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, says Abdullahi Umar Ganduje remains its National Chairman of the party.

The party made the clarification following the recent suspension of the embattled national chairman by some APC executive of his ward in Kano.

The state chapter of the party had since over-tuned the suspension, and suspended the party’s official involved in the controversy.

According to a statement issued in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Monday, the party said the suspension was a nullity, stressing that Ganduje remains in his position.

The statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the action of some APC officials in Kano state, who suspended the national chairman of the party is of no effect.

The statement reads: “The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to media reports of the purported suspension of the National Chairman, HE Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, from the party by the Executive Committee of the Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

“The purported suspension was the devious act of a group of impersonators of ward officials out to cause mischief and create confusion in the otherwise peaceful Ganduje Ward chapter of our party. The perpetrators of this criminal act are not card-carrying members of APC in the ward but are individuals affiliated with senior officials and representatives of the NNPP.

“This act procured by officials of the ruling NNPP in Kano is part of the despicable programme  of political persecution launched by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf against Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State.

“The purported suspension is downright criminal, and of no effect whatsoever. The legitimate Executive Committee of the Ganduje Ward has since denounced the action and reaffirmed Dr. Ganduje as a bonafide member of the Party in the Ward, and in good standing.”

Ganduje, the immediate past Kano state governor was suspended by his APC ward officials who said the allegation of bribery against the national chairman has brought disrepute to the ruling party.

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has launched the Single Window Project, a new website that will further facilitate Nigeria’s international trade.

The project was launched in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Tuesday.

President Tinubu while inaugurating the national portal said the country could save close to $4 billion annually.

The Single Window project is a cross-government website, which according to the president would expedite cargo movement and optimise inter-African trade, thereby facilitating $2.7bn worth of annual paperless trade.

Tinubu stated: “We cannot afford to lose an estimated $4bn annually to red tape, bureaucracy, delays and corruption at our ports.

“The benefits of this initiative are immense. The paperless trade alone is estimated to bring an annual economic benefit of around $2.7bn US dollars.

“Countries like Singapore, Korea, Kenya and Saudi Arabia have already seen significant improvement in trade efficiency after implementing Single Window Systems. It is time for Nigeria to join their ranks and reap the reward of a streamlined, decentralised trade process.”

Pascal Okechukwu aka Cubana Chief Priest could be jailed for at least six months for allegedly abusing the naira.

The socialite businessman was arrested on Monday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, operatives, and has since ben detained in their Lagos facility.

Okechukwu’s arrest has further hallmarked EFCC clampdown on suspected abusers of naira, following the conviction, last week, of Olanrewaju Okuneye aka Bobrisky by the commission.

The magazine reports that the cross-dresser was sentenced to six months imprisonment, without an option of fine for tampering with the national currency by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The anti-graft agency said Okechukwu would be arraigned in the court before the end of the week.

According to the spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, the Night club owner will be arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts charge bordering on abuse of naira, by allegedly spraying and tampering with the nation’s currency at a social event, contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

in a suit filed on April 4, 2024, by Rotimi Oyedepo, a senior advocate on behalf of EFCC, Pascal Okechukwu, allegedly on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, within the jurisdiction of the court, while dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, by spraying same for two hours, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

One of the charges read: “That you, Okechukwu Pascal, sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.”

If convicted, Okechukwu faces not less that six months in jail.

Meanwhile, it was learned that the fear of arrest by the EFCC has gripped other prominent Nigerians who had in recent past abused the naira by spraying the currency in parties and other social events.

The spraying of naira and other currencies is commonplace at Nigeria’s social events.

IMF New Economic Forecast For Nigeria Falls Short Of CBN’s Prediction

0

The International Monetary Fund, IMF, has predicted 3.3 economic growth for Nigeria in 2024.

The Bretton wood United States of America, US-based body had earlier in January downgraded the nation’s economic growth to three percent from its earlier forecast of 3.1 percent, citing various challenges facing the country economically, including the shortfall in crude oil revenue due to reduction in production as a result of insecurity in the Niger Delta.

“Growth in Nigeria is projected to decline from 3.3 per cent in 2022 to 2.9 per cent in 2023 and 3.1 per cent in 2024, with negative effects of high inflation on consumption taking hold.

“The forecast for 2023 is revised downward by 0.3 percentage point, reflecting weaker oil and gas production than expected, partially as a result of maintenance work,” it said three months ago.

However, in its latest economic forecast for the country published on its World Economic Outlook for April, and released during the ongoing 2024 Spring Meetings of the World Bank in Washington DC, United States, the global institution said the nation’s economy has the potential to grow beyond its January prediction.

Meanwhile, the forecast still falls short of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s CBN, prediction for the country.

The Yemi Cardo-led CBN had forecasted a close to four percent growth for the country recently.

According to the CBN Governor, “The projections for the nation’s economy paint an optimistic trajectory as the Federal Government of Nigeria anticipates real GDP growth of 3.76 per cent in 2024, slightly surpassing the estimated 3.75 per cent for 2023.”

“What will change is that it will not be business as usual. There is a massive reorientation of the mentality of the people of this town.

In the past, you had all sorts of people in the task forces doing things recklessly. Now, we believe in the rule of law.

Before, you see task force members jumping into peoples’ vehicles ,causing accidents and all other unlawful incidents . ASHTF has six zonal operational bases; two in Umuahia the state capital, and four in Aba.

Each zone has Mobile Courts attached to it . We have four Mobile Courts in Aba Zone and defaulters will be arraigned before the courts, and the courts will in turn award penalties in line with the extant laws. Each offence, has its own penalties ,as stipulated by the law . Convicted defaulters are to pay the penalties in to the state’s Single Treasury Account STA”.Chief Wogu stated.

Ondo Anglican Communion Urges FG To Address Inflation, High Cost Of Commodities

By Ayodele Oni

The Anglican Communion has pleaded with the federal government to address the continued escalating inflation coupled with high cost of commodities in the country.

This was contained in a communiqué at the end of the third Session of the 24th Synod of the Diosese of Ondo, church of Nigeria, which was held at Araromi Obu, in Ondo state and presided over by the Bishop, Stephen Oni.

In a Communique, the church called on government at all levels to introduce measures aimed at cushioning the effects of the galloping inflation.

It condemned the unending hardship suffered by Nigerians and the worsening socio-economic climate in the country, as a result of brain drain resulting from citizens migration to foreign land in search of greener pastures.

The church also frowns at the intractable problems of kidnapping, ritual killings, banditry, terrorism and other forms of insecurity and the seeming helplessness of the Nigeria Government in tackling the hydra headed monster.

Describing as abnormal continued abductions of school children, it called on government to stem the tide of this negative phenomenon.

It thrown its support for calls on restructuring of Nigeria and urgently allow devolution of powers to allow States  control  their resources to ensure meaningful and competitive development.

The church further decried the alarming rate at which Nigeria crude oil is being stolen almost on daily basis by thieves in a cleverly coordinated manner and advised government to arrest this economic sabotage that is fast threatening the economic survival of the Nation.

Dwelling on the theme of the Synod; which is, “Divine Ownership: “The Man And The Means” Synod admitted that the church needs to be reminded of Divine ownership;as it affects the entire Christian race dealing with the acquisition of wealth and its management.

It urged the church to embark seriously on deemphasizing the menace of material acquisition particularly in a manner which has impacted negatively on the entire fabric of the society.
