No Plans To Drop My Deputy – Gov Eno Declares

0
Governor Umo Eno

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr Umo Eno, has debunked claims suggesting that plans have been concluded to drop his Deputy Governor,  Senator Akon Eyakenyi, in the build up to his re-election bid in 2027.

The Source reports that there have been widespread speculations surrounding the fate of the Deputy Governor with reports claiming that the Governor has concluded plans to jettison the 2023 ticket to reflect the present political realignment in the State.

According to sources, Governor Eno, who, in 2025, defected to the All Progressive Congress APC ,from his original political abode- the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been under intense pressure to rejig governance structure to accommodate the old APC members

Specifically, the rumour mill has been awash with reports that the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the leader of the old APC structure in the State is allegedly rooting for one of  his core cronies to be picked as Governor Eno’s running mate ahead of the 2027 polls

There are strong indications that  Akpabio, a former Governor of the State, prefers the Akwa Ibom State representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission NNDC, Victor Antai, to replace the incumbent Deputy Governor.

The Senate President is said to be working on the theory of having Antai inherit Governor Eno at the end of his second tenure in 2031.

But speaking at the occasion of the 80th birthday celebration of the Deputy Governor’s husband, Etim Eyakenyi on Sunday, Governor Eno dismissed the speculations on the purported plans to tinker with the gubernatorial ticket as false and unfounded.

The Governor emphasized that he has no reason to drop his Deputy, noting that she has remained loyal ever since 2023 when she emerged.

Governor Eno, while denying being under pressure to alter the 2023 ticket, insisted that he has no cause to abandon his Deputy now or in the future.

“Akon Eyakenyi, has not disappointed me, even for one day as my Deputy. And if you make me Governor ten times, she will be my Deputy 10 times”, Eno vowed.

US Commends FG Over Conviction Of 386 Terrorists, Calls For  Sustained Judicial Reforms

The United States Government has lauded the Federal  Government for securing 386 convictions in terrorism-related cases, describing the development as a significant step towards justice and accountability.

The Commendation was disclosed by the United States of America Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulosin, a statement shared via X on Sunday, where the official praised Nigeria’s efforts to fast-track terrorism trials.

The Statement by the US reads: “The United States commends the Nigerian Government for its strong commitment to expediting trials addressing terrorism and related crimes.

“We welcome the convictions of 386 Islamist militants in cases that had previously faced significant delays in the courts, and we recognise this as an important step toward accountability and justice”.

The U.S. further stressed the importance of transparent legal processes in tackling extremism.

“We believe that timely and transparent legal processes are critical in confronting extremism and reinforcing public trust in judicial institutions. Upholding the rule of law remains essential to ensuring the safety, stability, and long-term security of all Nigerians,” it added.

The recognition and Commendation is coming at a time the FG announced that it has secured 386 convictions out of 508 terrorism-related cases prosecuted at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.

Disclosing the US Commendation to Journalists was the

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, at the conclusion of the ninth phase of the trials, where he said, “In total, we brought about 508 cases. Of these 508, we were able to secure 386 convictions. Eight discharges, two acquittals and 112 adjourned to the next session or phase”.

Fagbemi added that the next phase of the trials had already been scheduled.

“Don’t forget that this is the ninth phase. The 10th phase will come up between the 15th and the 18th of June by God’s special grace,” he stated.

The trial, which began on April 7, 2026, ended on April 10, 2026.

He noted that over 500 suspects were arraigned for offences bordering on terrorism under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.

The proceedings involved 10 Judges of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court and were conducted despite the Easter vacation period.

Fagbemi said the inclusion of discharges and acquittals reflected the government’s commitment to due process and the rule of law.

The latest convictions come amid ongoing international scrutiny of Nigeria’s security situation.

It would be recalled that in 2015,  President Donald Trump designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” under the International Religious Freedom Act, citing concerns over violence linked to extremist groups.

Though the Nigerian government rejected the designation, maintaining that the violence was driven by criminality and insurgency affecting both Muslims and Christians, rather than targeted religious persecution as alleged by the US.

Fayose Alleges Plot By Governor Makinde To Remove Olubadan

By Akinwale Kasali

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose,  has alleged a plot by Governor Seyi Makinde to oust the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja from the throne.

Fayose alleged that Makinde has, for months, been plotting the removal of the former Oyo State Governor.

Recall that the Olubadan was installed as the Olubadan by Makinde less than six months ago.

Taking to his X handle on Sunday, Fayose claimed that the alleged move would begin with official queries against the Monarch over his absence at a recent Coronation ceremony.

Fayose wrote: “I heard reliably that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is plotting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rahidi Adewolu Ladoja. The plot is to commence this week, with Government Query to be issued against the Olubadan, citing his absence at the failed coronation of High Chiefs in Ibadanland two weeks ago, and other allegations”.

The two term Ekiti State Governor described Governor Makinde as a ‘sigidi’, a statuette, stressing that he would continue watch his ignominious machinations.

“As for us, we will be watching the Sìgìdì of Seyi Makinde tó fẹ́ se eré ẹ̀tẹ́,” he added.

Rashidi Ladoja - Olubadan

The allegation is, however, coming on the heels of  a recent speculation about a possible disagreement between the Monarch and the State Government.

It would be recalled that the Olubadan recently  dismissed claims of any rift between the Traditional Ruler and the Governor, describing such reports as unfounded.

In a statement, the Palace said: “We wish to make it abundantly clear that there is no rift between Kabiyesi and Olori omo oba of Ibadanland.”

It also addressed reports regarding the monarch’s absence at the coronation event, clarifying that the Olubadan did not deliberately avoid the ceremony.

“In addition, the Olubadan did not travel out of Ibadan to avoid the coronation ceremony. Kabiyesi is hale and hearty in Ibadan and performing the role expected of him as Olubadan,” the statement added.

An accidental airstrike from the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has reportedly killed several  persons at a crowded weekly market on the border between Borno and Yobe States.

Several others were reportedly injured in the unfortunate incident which occurred at Dilli Market within Gubio Local Council of Yobe State.

The airstrike which was originally targeted at Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist elements with operation camps on the border areas of the two security challenged states, however mistakingly hit the market on Saturday evening.

The weekly market, according to local witness accounts, holds much attraction for traders and other market users from across many communities within the border of Borno and Yobe States, including Giedam, and Gubio from Yobe State ,as well as Chibok and Benisheikh in Borno State.

The Yobe State Police Command, however, could not provide the exact number of casualties as at the time of reporting.

Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for the Command, while confirming the unfortunate development, however informed that operatives have been deployed to the affected areas for an on-the-spot assessment.

“We are aware of the incident that occurred at Dilli Market along the Borno/Yobe border, and we are currently gathering information on what actually transpired.

“At the moment, we do not have confirmed casualty figures as details are still being gathered.

“Security agencies are on the ground assessing the situation, while efforts are ongoing to ensure proper documentation and response, after which the public will be informed.

However, some local witness accounts have put the initial casualty figures at over 30, with more believed to have  succumbed  to their injuries at medical facilities.

Several others who sustained severe injuries are said to be battling for their lives at various hospitals, with fears of more deaths rife

The Source reports that the alleged ill-fated airstrike targeted at insurgents in the aftermath of the Benisheikh military base invasion that resulted in the death of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and other soldiers .

Most of the terrorists operating within the axis are believed to be conducting their shopping at the busy weekly market, and also come regularly to  collect taxes and levies from the people.

The authorities of the NAF and the Governments of Borno and Yobe States were yet to react officially to the incident as at the time of reporting.

But a local witness informed that the market is within the jurisdiction of Gubio Local Government Area in  Yobe state, even though it is sitting on the border .

Ondo Customary Court President Involved In  Okada Accident While Riding It To Work

Court and Law

There is growing disaffection among residents of Ondo State over what they term undignified living conditions of Judicial officers, especially Magistrates and Customary Court Judges.

The situation became tense following the involvement of Mrs. Busola Ayo Dada, President of a Customary Court in the State, in an Okada (commercial motorcycles) accident which she rode while rushing to work.

The incident has intensified public concern and renewed calls for urgent government intervention in the plight of the Judicial officers.

The situation has been blamed on government’s failure to provide official vehicles for the Judicial officers.

The development has sparked widespread criticism, with legal practitioners and concerned citizens describing the situation as a glaring contradiction in a state that benefits from the 13 percent oil derivation fund.

A legal practitioner, Barrister Adedamola Ambekemo, who drew attention to the issue, described the situation as both “dangerous and disgraceful,” warning that judicial officers are being exposed to unnecessary risks despite their critical role in society.

According to him, the state government had previously pledged to provide official vehicles for judicial officers, a promise he says has been abandoned.

“It is unacceptable that those entrusted with upholding the law are left to fend for themselves in such a risky manner. These are not just commuters; they are symbols of justice and authority,” Ambekemo stated.

He argued that beyond the safety concerns, the situation undermines the integrity and dignity of the judiciary, especially at the grassroots level where customary courts and magistrates serve as the first point of contact for many citizens seeking justice.

Observers note that the image of judges navigating traffic on motorcycles not only exposes them to physical danger, but also erodes public confidence in the justice system.

“This is bigger than transportation. It speaks to how much value is placed on the judiciary and the administration of justice in the state,” Ambekemo added.

The criticism has been particularly sharp given Ondo State’s status as an oil-producing region, with many questioning how a government with access to significant derivation funds has failed to meet such a basic obligation.

For many residents, the accident involving Mrs. Dada is a stark reminder of the consequences of official neglect.

“This was avoidable,” a legal analyst noted. “It should not take a tragedy for the government to act.”

Calls are now mounting for immediate provision of official vehicles, improved welfare packages, and enhanced safety measures for judicial officers across the state.

Stakeholders warn that continued neglect could weaken the justice system, as morale among judicial officers declines and public trust diminishes.

“True Success Lies Beyond Certificates,” Chancellor Tells EKSU Graduates

Ekiti State Univesity - EKSU

By Ayodele Oni

The Chancellor of Ekiti State University,(EKSU), Ado Ekiti, Tunji Olowolafe, has urged  graduating students to prioritize character, discipline, and integrity as they step into life beyond the university.

Speaking at the university’s convocation ceremony held at the Institution’s main auditorium on Saturday, Olowolafe set the tone for the event with a strong message on values, challenging graduates to confront life with discipline and integrity as they transit into a competitive global society.

He described the occasion as a celebration of academic achievements across diploma, degree, and doctoral levels, but stressed that true success lies beyond certificates, in the strength of one’s character.

Olowolafe urged the graduates not to shy away from challenges, but to embrace them with determination, noting that hard work, humility, and honesty remain essential for long-term success.

Highlighting his contributions to the institution, the chancellor said the Olowolafe Foundation has sponsored 37 lecturers and continues to support academic development, research, and infrastructure growth within the university.

He added that the foundation is driving initiatives aimed at attracting investors, expanding opportunities for staff and students, and positioning EKSU as a globally competitive institution within the next 24 months.

In his address, the pro-chancellor and chairman of the council, Akin Oyebode, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence and national development, noting that EKSU is positioning itself as a leader in research, policy innovation, and the production of globally competitive graduates.

Oyebode disclosed that the institution has secured over N210 million annually in 2024 for academic staff development through international conferences and capacity-building programmes, driven largely by the chancellor’s support.

Also speaking, the vice-chancellor, Joseph Babatola Ayodele, announced major academic milestones, including full accreditation for 18 programs within one year and the expansion of faculties from 12 to 14.

He noted that EKSU currently runs 97 programmes, with 79 accredited, and revealed ongoing international collaborations with institutions such as Royal Holloway University of London to enhance research, staff exchange, and global exposure.

Ayodele further stressed the importance of technology in modern education, warning that universities that fail to embrace digital transformation risk becoming irrelevant in a rapidly evolving global system.

The ceremony also featured the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees and celebrated the graduation of 284 diploma students, 10,125 undergraduate students, and 550 postgraduate students.

Traffic Offence: Husband Flees, Abandons Wife,  To Evade Police Arrest In Ondo… Another Abducts Traffic Officer

It looked like Nollywood film when a husband abandoned his wife, vehicle in Ondo State and fled to escape arrest by Policemen.

The incident was one of the high points in the State by vehicle owners to disregard traffic lights and even harass Traffic Wardens that attempt to caution them.

The State Police Command’s spokesman, Abayomi Jimoh, explained that it happened when a patrol team intercepted a vehicle driving against traffic at Oba Ile.

What should have been a routine enforcement action escalated into violence when Mrs. Adeyanju Tolutope and her husband, allegedly, confronted the officers.

Police report indicate that Mrs. Adeyanju resisted arrest and physically, allegedly, assaulted an officer, Inspector Tolulope, during the altercation.

She was subsequently arrested, while her husband fled the scene and remains at large. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.

In another incident, the Ondo State Police Command has arraigned three suspects over a series of offences ranging from traffic violations to the abduction of a police officer.

According to a statement released by the Command, the incidents—recorded within days of each other—highlight growing concerns over motorists’ disregard for traffic regulations and increasing hostility toward law enforcement officers.

The most alarming case occurred at the busy Cathedral Junction in Akure. Two suspects, identified as Olopade Abraham and Emmanuel Taiwo, allegedly ran a red light while driving a Toyota Avensis.

When flagged down by a Senior Traffic Warden, Kehinde Oliniju, the situation took a dangerous turn.

Rather than comply, the driver reportedly sped off with the officer still inside the vehicle, effectively abducting her in the process.

The unfolding incident triggered a swift response from a nearby police patrol team, which pursued the fleeing vehicle and intercepted it at Winners Chapel Junction along Ondo Road.

The officer was rescued unharmed, and the suspects were immediately taken into custody.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the officers for their professionalism and restraint under pressure, noting that their prompt and coordinated response prevented what could have been a more serious outcome.

Reaffirming its stance, the Command warned  motorists and members of the public, stressing zero tolerance for traffic violations, assault on officers, or any attempt to obstruct law enforcement duties.

Residents have been urged to obey traffic laws and cooperate with police directives, as authorities vow to take decisive action against offenders to ensure public safety and order on the roads.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olukayode Ajulo SAN, had recently hinted about plan by the state government to set up mobile court to try traffic offenders.

African Democratic Congress, ADC, Presidential hopeful, Mr.  Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Brigadier-General O. Braimah and other military personnel in a Boko Haram attack at Benisheikh, describing the incident as a painful reminder of the nation’s security challenges.

In a statement on his social media platforms on Friday, Obi said the death of the senior officer and his colleagues highlights the urgent need for Nigeria to reassess how it values and protects those who risk their lives in defence of the country.

Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah: Killed by Boko Haram

“The moment I heard of the killing of  soldiers, I was reminded of what other countries commit to when it comes to rescuing their endangered soldiers on the battlefield,” he said.

He described the attack as a “clarion call” for both leadership and citizens to reflect more deeply on the value placed on human life, particularly members of the armed forces who confront insecurity daily.

Obi  stressed the importance of strengthening national resolve and improving systems aimed at safeguarding military personnel and civilians alike.

Obi also extended his condolences to the family of the late Brigadier-General, as well as to the families of other fallen soldiers, praying for the repose of their souls and comfort for those they left behind.

The attack at Benisheikh, attributed to Boko Haram insurgents, adds to growing concerns over persistent insecurity in parts of the country and the continued loss of lives among security forces.

The Commander of the South-south Unit of the Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, OPDS, Olugbenga Oladipo, has reaffirmed the Command’s unflinching commitment towards decisively tackling oil theft and other forms of economic sabotage in the country.

He, also, pledged the readiness of the Task Force  to adequately protect oil and gas infrastructures, and other critical national assets within its area of jurisdiction.

Oladipo who spoke on Saturday at a media briefing in Calabar, announced the interception of three vessels, fully laden with stolen crude estimated at the cost of over N4.2 billion.

According to the Task Force Commander, the intelligence-driven operations which began on Wednesday night, April 8, 2026, also led to the arrest of 26 persons who were crew members of the seized vessels.

He disclosed that the operations which commenced at about 11: 45 pm on Wednesday, resulted in OPDS  troops intercepting two vessels, namely MT Mkpodu and MT Westaf, all within the the Calabar/ Akwa Ibom maritime area.

He emphasized that earlier reports had indicated that the two vessels were involved in crude oil theft, following which they were trailed and arrested at Wellhead within the Joint Task Force Operation Area.

According to Oladipo, at the time of interception, the two vessels had a combined crew of 26 members on board.

He further informed that the two vessels had a combined 939 metric tonnes of suspected stolen crude as at the time of interception.

“Motor Tanker Mkpodu was intercepted in the process of siphoning crude oil, and was found laden with an estimated 480 metric tonnes of suspected stolen.

“Motor Tanker Westaf, on the other hand, had about 459 metric tonnes of suspected crude oil onboard at the time of arrest”, the Task Force Commander stated.

According to him, sequel to the seizure of the two vessels, naval and air assets, including NNS Shere, NNS Ose, and a Nigerian Air Force helicopter, were deployed to aid the operation.

While the helicopter provided real-time aerial surveillance, the naval components secured the intercepted vessels offshore, as well as facilitating their movement, to the naval jetty in Calabar, the Commander added.

Oladipo disclosed that the third vessel-MT Stellos K ,was subsequently arrested by operatives of NNS Gongola, on April 10, 2026, as a result of follow-up intelligence .

While reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the Defence Headquarters and the Nigerian Navy to the task of combating oil theft in the country, Oladipo emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration, and intelligence sharing in effectively tackling all forms of economic sabotage.

OPINION: Desperate Tinubu Rallies Former Igbo Governors

Author: Steve Osuji

By Steve Osuji

The President and his party are obviously in a frenzy. The next election in 2027 seems like a last battle for them. The passcode in the country today which gives them away is ‘support Tinubu.’  It’s as if the president is an invalid on crutches needing support. No official speech ends without a word for President Tinubu; every government activity dovetails into a subtle campaign for reelection of President Bola Tinubu. The desperation, or shall we say, trepidation, by the ruling party over the 2027 general elections is so intense one wonders if anything else is attended to by this government.

THE GREAT RUNNING DOG: The latest signpost was raised in Enugu, Enugu State capital two days ago where Works Minister, Mr. Dave Umahi corralled a few former governors of the southeast into the Support Tinubu Orchestra.

Note that Mr Umahi who ruled Ebonyi State like an emperor is President Tinubu’s Man Friday and running dog. Since he was handed (some cynics say he procured it) the highly coveted Works Ministry, Mr Umahi has been over the moon.

Let’s be fair. He gets jobs done. At least by the standards of a highly deficient and corrupt country where public officials think of little else than raiding public treasury.

Umahi manages to deliver a bit of results even though at pernicious costs. For instance, imagine the malfeasance of awarding a fifteen trillion naira contract without a public bid. Umahi woke up one dawn and proudly announced to a yet sleepy nation that he had awarded what’s probably the largest single infrastructure contract in subsahara Africa to a two-bit firm in which Nigeria’s first family has ample beneficial interest.

Such is Umahi’s persona and barbarian frame of mind. He seems to have no qualms about good or bad, and right and wrong. Indeed, he seems not to know the difference between the twain.

Therefore, as Works Minister, the man sitting on the hugest annual budget in the land, Umahi has let himself loose on his hapless geopolitical zone in the last three years. He has run roughshod on Igboland and her people like a slave master. He seems intent on recolonising Ndigbo for the interest of his master, Tinubu. He also has his bleary eyes on the presidency.

At every opportunity, he berates Ndigbo, mocks them and talks down at them as if they were bonded slaves in Nigeria.

Evidently, Igbo are kept in the fringes and margins of federal affairs in Nigeria since the end of the civil war in 1970. While this tribal exclusion has heightened since the advent of the APC in 2015, it has risen to genocidal proportions since the coming of Tinubu in 2023. But Umahi in his daily Igbo harangue would tell them Tinubu is the best thing to have happened to them.

UMAHI’S ATILOGU DANCE TROUPE: Umahi’s latest  scheme for his master, Tinubu, is to herd former governors of the Southeast into a group. He calls it Southeast Former Governors’ Forum (SFGF); they are supposed to help further the cause of the zone but in reality, they are Umahi’s new Atilogu Dance Troupe to entertain Umahi’s lord and master, Tinubu. They are to help Tinubu win the hearts and votes of Ndigbo.

He founded the group in his domain, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State a few days ago, hosted it, christened it, led the discussion and read their communique! It was an Umahi show. We may have to reformat the group as the Umahi Southeast Front.

UMAHI SOUTHEAST FRONT: A HOUSE DIVIDED:  The so-called former governors forum seems actually flawed and divided from the outset. Many former governors can already see through the Umahi scheme and they ducked. Only a few tired, jobless and hounded former governors attended.  Present were Pa Martin Elechi, Umahi’s predecessor. He is 85. Old, frail and on support. Standing their during Umahi’s press show, it was apparent Papa Elechi would rather be left alone. For a man Umahi practically shoved out of the Government House with ignominy, Papa Elechi was dragged to the meeting, we wager.

Also present were the duo of Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Their tenures in Enugu had little signature or signage. Their tenures and natures were in character but without significant character. They stood there in the Umahi line up like the stooges they are, morbidly alife.

There’s Okezie Ikpeazu too, Abia’s albatross. And Chris Ngige of Anambra who seems like the odd man out considering his glittering tenure and his stature as Igbo leader.

THE NGIGE TREATMENT:

But Ngige joining Umahi’s Tinubu orchestra must be seen from the light of trying to save his head (and of course, his rich, silky beards which he seems to treasure and nurture in an especial way).

Recall that Ngige who’s member of late President Muhammadu Buhari political school has been lukewarm and aloof in the Tinubu era. Just like all the core Buhari men, they were never integrated into the Tinubu camp.

A few weeks ago, Tinubu’s Pit Bulls, EFCC gave Ngige a bit of a run-around when they dusted up an old file of his. Before you could say Onwa, the  73-year old had been flung into Kuje prisons for about one week. Before this, he had earlier been shot at by purported armed robbers. All these were apparently to have Ngige’s brain reset to join the Tinubu Orchestra.

IT WAS A NO-SHOW: Umahi’s scheme to rally former southeast governors was a flop. Though he tried to explain why many supposed members failed to attend – he said many were on medical trips abroad. (We say shame on them for not  building hospitals and health systems in Nigeria that are good enough to afford them good health care in Nigeria.)

Only six out of about sixteen former governors answered the call. Let’s say most of the others boycotted Umahi’s call. It’s because they could see through Umahi’s disguise and dark agenda. Nobody trusts him.

Though he claims the body would work with the incumbents to drive development in the zone, everyone knows this is a blatant lie. Umahi simple wants to hijack the leadership of the Southeast for himself and his master in Aso Rock.

Why is the Southeast Governors’ Forum not functioning? All the southeast governors have been bought over by Tinubu. Even the so-called Southeast Development Commission is a Tinubu ruse just like most of his activities.

In one breath, Umahi said the body is nonpartisan and in another he says: “The Forum expressed support for President Bola Tinubu, applauding his administration for the appointments, some of them key, to the sons and daughters of the Southeast and for the infrastructure revolution in our zone.” He never names one project!

IGBO MARGINALISATION ALL THE WAY: There’s nothing Umahi and his master can do to win Igbo heart or vote. Igbo dislike for APC is mutual and total. The simple reason is that APC has an unwritten policy to put Ndigbo down and reduce them to second class citizens in Nigeria.

Just a few examples will suffice: it’s only the southeast that has no international airport in it’s zone even though the people probably travel the most. Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu which was delivered during the PDP days has been virtually damaged and localised by APC. Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, completely built and delivered by the Imo people is only used for annual airlift of pilgrimages to Mecca and Jerusalem. Why isn’t it used for commercial cargo businesses for which it was built? Igbo marginalisation. Rail lines are active in the West, Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, even on to Niger Republic. There’s none in the southeast.

Southeast has the largest gas reserve. But the gas is piped and used industrially in other zones but the southeast. AKK, the multi billion naira gas pipeline project is to take gas from the south up to Kaduna and Kano!

Seaports would not be developed in the southeast despite the hue and cry. Instead congested Lagos ports are being expanded. It is worse with Federal appointments. If it were in Tinubu’s powers, he would give the southeast zero appointments. Yet Umahi would heap coal on the injury of Ndigbo by telling them Tinubu is the best thing that happened to them.

In a nutshell, the pains of Igbo people are deep and Umahi’s antics only aggravate it.

LAST LINE: ADC VERSUS INEC: AMUPITAN WAS ALWAYS A MARIONETTE

Only a simpleton expected anything of value from Prof. Joash Amupitan’s INEC. Not in the least, this column. The reasons are plenty but let’s make do with just a few.

First, AMUPITAN was an APC lawyer, though a fringe one.

Two, he’s a buddy of die-hard Tinubu boys (yes boys!) like Babatunde Ogalla, SAN, (APC legal chief) and Abiodun Faleke with whom he’s from the same LGA.

Three, his CV and career trajectory don’t quite add up. Some lacunae are open and gapping and Nigerians inexplicably accepted it.

Finally his visage presents a fellow with seeming integrity deficiency.

Amupitan was always a marionette briefed and programmed for afore-written outcomes. Unfortunately, in APC’s desperation he showed his hands too early thus the current mistake. He got stampeded.

Even this column can fathom clearly, what ‘status quo ante-bellum’ means in this instance. It simply means don’t disrupt the matter until the court has spoken. But Amupitan, supposedly a professor of Law and a senior advocate, did the direct opposite of the court’s ruling. He didn’t only pour petrol in the matter, he knowingly and roguishly decided to barred Nigeria’s only opposition party from participating in the 2027 elections.

Here’s the test for Amupitan roguery: if the court eventually rules in favour of the ADC he suspended, but the election timetable has lapsed, would Amupitan change the election rules or the hand of the clock to bring ADC back into contention?

We wager that Amupitan is on a mission to kill the only opposition party left. Shocking!
