Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has said that metamorphosis from analogue to digital economy has made it imperative that we pay attention to the digital age where Space travel is pregnant with so many economic benefits.

While suggesting that Nigerians should not joke with Space economy, Governor Uzodimma insists that as a person he believes in it and will stop at nothing to support any collaboration in the area of Space Research.

Speaking Thursday at Government House Owerri when he paid host to members of the National Space Research Development Agency (NASRDA) and Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA), Governor Uzodimma told his guests to count on the State’s support and partnership in the establishment of Space Research Centre for its economic benefits in Imo.

He maintained that “the issue of Space Research is a serious business and should not be toyed with,” noting that “it is estimated that soon there will be tourism in Space and Nations will want to share in the economy thereof.”

Governor Uzodimma noted that innovation and research have gone beyond discovery on earth “as the planet, rather the world, has gone into research on how to help manage the Space as a market for both the military and civilian alike.”

He said that the gains of Space Research and travels are for both private and public sectors and that “every conscious State or Nation will like to participate and be part of the gains.”

The Governor insisted that he strongly believes that the National Space Research Development Agency has the mandate of the federal government to give opportunity for at least two Nigerians to visit the Space every year and would wish that an Imo citizen fits the mould.

He expressed gratitude for the choice of Imo State for the Space Research pilot project and reminded his guests that Imo State will be glad to have her own Astronaut.

Governor Uzodimma said that while the older generation may not be interested in the unfolding dynamics in the new world of digital existence, “the younger ones, especially our students in mostly tertiary institutions, will be encouraged to develop interest and participate.”

He therefore directed the Commissioner for Education and that of Science and Technology, to ensure that the visitors are introduced to our schools “so that the students will, on their own, show interest in astrology.”

Explaining their mission to Imo State, Dr Ayantunji Benjamin Gbenro who is the Director of Physical and Life Sciences of NASDRA and representing the Agency’s Director General, Dr. Marthin Olumide Adepoju, said that they came to

express their interest in establishing and domesticating the National Space Research Development Agency in Imo State “because of the person of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma,” whom he said they regard as “the best Governor in Nigeria.”

He added that it has become necessary to “build the Space Satellite in Nigeria for Nigeria as against what was done in the past when it was built in United States and called Nigerian Space.”

Dr. Gbenro who furthermore explained that the essence is to put Nigerians in the Space, added that “we looking at the bigger picture of Nigeria reaping in the Space economy which has a lot of potentials bigger than that of oil and gas.”

“Again the target is to make Nigeria to be the first Nation in Africa to send man to the Space,” he explained and congratulated the Governor for quickly accepting to align his government with the project, accepting to receive them and discussing the issues, including signing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmas Iwu, the Chief of Staff, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, Commissioner for Education, Prof. Johncliff Nwadike, Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Ikenna Elezieanya, Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba and other members of the State’s Expanded Executive Council joined the Governor in receiving the visitors.

Others who accompanied Dr. Gbenro on the trip were Sam Hutchinson ( co founder of SERA), Joshua Skrula ( co founder of SERA), Victor Hespahai ( Astronaut) and Ure Utah, technical adviser to the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Uche Nnaji.

Cholera Outbreak in Lagos

By Akinwale Kasali

The cholera outbreak ravaging the country has continued as Lagos State has recorded additional six deaths, and over 50 persons hospitalized across medical facilities in the State.

The number of deaths recorded has increased  from 15 to 21 and hospitalized patients from 350 to 401.

Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo- Olu, on Health, disclosed Thursday that the total number of cholera cases has increased to 401 across Lagos, with Lagos Island, Kosofe, and Eti Osa recording the highest numbers.

Providing update on the outbreak after meeting with members of the Lagos State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, PHEOC,  Ogunyemi said that the death toll has also risen to 21, an increase of six from the previously reported 15 fatalities.

According to her, the rise in cases was anticipated following the Ileya festivities, during which large gatherings occurred. She, however, noted that suspected cases are subsiding across LGAs particularly in previously affected LGAs due to State Government interventions and surveillance efforts.

She added  that the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Health and other sister agencies, is maintaining rigorous surveillance and monitoring of the situation and implementing planned programs and activities to curb the spread.

“The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Environment and its agency, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), continues to collect samples of water sources, food, and beverages to identify the source of contamination. We have also intensified our surveillance activities in communities, particularly in affected local government areas, to address the situation head-on.

“We are also working with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education as well as the Ministry of Tertiary Education to ensure all precautions are taken in our schools to protect children and scholars as they return. Residents must, however, remain vigilant, practice good hand hygiene, and participate in community sanitation activities to stop the spread of cholera,” the Special Adviser stated.

She advised that citizens seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as watery diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, general malaise, and fever, stressing that treatment for cholera is provided free of charge at all public health facilities.

While noting that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains committed to ensuring that residents of Lagos receive quality and affordable health care, the Special Adviser extended the gratitude of the State Government to local, national, and international partners—including UNICEF, WHO, NCDC, NIMR, Red Cross, and others—for their support in combating the outbreak.

“Appreciation is also extended to the dedicated team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab scientists, environmental health officers, Water Corporation officers, surveillance officers, heads of agencies, members of PHEOC, and volunteers who are working around the clock to combat the disease and keep Lagos safe,” Ogunyemi said.

The Rivers State Government has dismissed recent calls by the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, Tony Okocha, for an Emergency Rule in the State.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, characterized Okocha’s demands as “Bobo juice,” implying that they were frivolous and unworthy of serious consideration.

During a press briefing, the Commissioner expressed that Tony Okocha’s statements were merely “ranting” and did not merit a response.

He accused Okocha of being notorious for spreading misinformation and engaging in scare-mongering tactics that lack credibility.

“Nobody would take such a character serious in the State,” Johnson added, reflecting the government’s dismissal of Okocha’s influence and assertions.

The Commissioner also referenced a past incident where Okocha had caused a public stir by claiming an outbreak of cholera in the State.

“Following these claims, a team of medical experts was dispatched to investigate, only to find that the allegations were false.

“On Tony Okocha, I don’t think that what Okocha said is worth giving any attention. We should not break our heads over what Tony Okocha said.

“The other time he said there was a cholera outbreak when the medical personnel visited the place they said there is nothing like that.

“Another day he (Okocha) said he was welcoming members of the House of Assembly who defected to the APC. What is the position today?

“He also said that he was going to ask the Members of the House of Assembly to commence impeachment of the Governor, what is the position today?

“All these talks are what we call bobo juice, He is talking to himself, he is not talking to anybody and he is not talking to Rivers people.”

PDP Candidate, Ajayi, Fingers Gov. Aiyedatiwa In Court Ruling Over Ondo LCDAs

Reactions have been trailing the nullification of the 33 newly created Local Council Development Council, (LCDA) in Ondo state by an Akure High Court.

The Court had on Thursday declared unconstitutional the signing of the bill which created the LCDAs outside the state by late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as illegal.

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Agboola Ajayi,  condemned an Ondo State High Court which nullified the creation of 33 Local Council Development Areas.

Ajayi said the judgment was anti-people and would hinder development of Ondo Communities.

Ajayi, who accused the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of backing the suit, said the people preferred a government that is close to them.

He said Governor Aiyedatiwa also filed a suit against Local Government Autonomy.

His words, “The judgment is anti-people. It will be promoting an agenda that will hinder rapid development of the communities.

“The Ondo State government is behind the suit. They must appeal the judgment. The suit filed by the PDP was not to totalling abrogate the LCDAs but illegal inauguration of Caretake Chairman.

Plaintiffs in the suit, Akoko Development Initiatives, on behalf of others in a statement explained that “The people of Akoko, having noticed the lopsidedness in the recommendation from the Executive Council to the State House of Assembly for the creation of the 33 LCDAs, in July, 2023, made representation to Government in letters addressed to the Governor and the Attorney General to correct the injustice meted to individual Local Government Areas and the entire AkokoLand.

“No adjustment was made to the error we pointed out before the damaging recommendation was forwarded to the Ondo State House of Assembly for legislation.

“In view of the protest at the House of Assembly by aggrieved citizens across the State, the House of Assembly adjusted its time-table which was designed to pass the bill in one sitting, to accommodate a hurriedly arranged public hearing on the bill.

“Representatives of Local Governments in Akoko presented memoranda at the hearing which were backed up with adequate records and data to assist the House arrive at equitable decisions.

“For instance, Akoko South West which was the largest Local Government Area in the State with 15 wards and 2 state constituencies had only one LCDA carved out of it, while Ose Local Government Area, with one state constituency had one too.

“In the overall consideration, the Owo ethnic group with originally 2 Local Government Areas was subdivided into 8 LCDAs, while Akoko that was originally 4 Local Government Areas was subdivided into 9 LCDAs.

“The fact that both ethnic divisions make up the Ondo North Senatorial district made the arrangement sinister.

“In spite of the veracity of the data presented before the House of Assembly to prove the lopsidedness of the LCDA creation, the House went ahead to pass the flawed bill into Law.

“We had no choice as law abiding citizens of Ondo State, than to approach the Court for redress. Moreso, the bill was signed into Law on the 9th of September, 2023.”

Ondo Court Nullifies Creation Of LCDAs, Says Law Was Signed Outside The State

Rotimi Akeredolu

By Ayodele Oni

One of the legacies of late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in Ondo state is being dumped into dustbin of history as  an Akure High Court nullified the 33 Local Council Development Areas, (LCDAs) created last year.

The administration of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had announced their creation in September, last year

Justice A.O Adebusuoye, in a judgment on Thursday described the creation of the LCDAs as unlawfull and unconstitutional.

The court said it was illegal for a Governor to sign a Law outside the State.

The court said that the Local Government Creation Law 2023 signed by late Akeredolu in Ibadan, outside Ondo State, was unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.

Late Akeredolu had on Saturday, September 9, 2023 assented to the bill creating 33 Local Council Development Areas, in the state.

The bill was presented to the Governor for assent by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Oladiji Olamide, during a brief ceremony at the Governor’s residence in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Late Akeredolu was on sick bed and confined to his Ibadan residence when he signed the bill into law.

Writing for Media and Monetising It: An entrepreneur’s perspective

0
Max Amuchie

By Max Amuchie

Last December, on my last day of work before Christmas, I sat alone in my office in Abuja, reflecting on my life’s journey. I thought about my years in the media, especially the few years since I ventured into entrepreneurship.

I remembered my post on Facebook in June 2015 announcing my resignation as Managing Editor at LEADERSHIP Newspaper and the planned unveiling of Sundiata Post as an online newspaper the following month. I thought about the people whose paths I had crossed in the media.

I remembered the statement made by Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar (Rtd) when, as military Governor of Kaduna State in the late 1980s, he said he could follow the then military President Ibrahim Babangida to war blindfolded. That was a profound statement of loyalty. Never mind that Col. Umar recanted after the 12 June 1993 election annulment in which the late MKO Abiola won.

I thought about the people who have impacted my life and wondered if there were any of them I could follow to war blindfolded. Mr. Azubuike Ishiekwene, known as “Azu” to many of us, his admirers, came to my mind. He is a man who has had a profound impact on the careers of many media practitioners who have crossed his path, and I have been a significant beneficiary of his generosity.

In Lagos, where I was Features Editor for several years at ThisDay, Azu set the pace at PUNCH, where he became an editor and, later, Executive Director of publications.

Our paths crossed again in 2013 in Abuja when he signed me as Managing Editor at LEADERSHIP, where he was Group Managing Director. No one wanted to miss the Management meetings on Mondays, not necessarily because of strict protocols but because of Azu’s leadership style.

I left the meetings enriched with deep insights into newspaper management, and they paid off for me when Sundiata Post was set up. When Sundiata Post was unveiled on 7 July 2015 in Abuja, Azu, ever supportive, was the moderator at the panel discussion on “New Media and the Future of Newspaper in Nigeria.”

The panel discussed the paper delivered by Malam Mohammed Haruna, then a syndicated columnist. Malam Haruna is a national commissioner at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, Azu is better known for his writing. A hugely respected syndicated columnist, week after week, he writes about Nigeria, its history, the state of the union, and its place under the sun.

His commitment to excellence is well-known to anyone who has worked with him. However, his concern about how journalists and content producers can earn money and live well would appear to be a revelation. This concern has kept many media practitioners awake at night, especially in the Internet age, when content is available almost free of charge or even stolen.

Getting paid for content is an issue that media practitioners have been grappling with. This has hit online publishers as they have no physical copies to sell. In the craze for traffic, they publish content without getting rewarded.

In this regard, Azu’s new book, Writing for Media and Monetising It, is an idea whose time has come. No other person is more suited to write this book than Azu, a media management guru, content producer and columnist who has made his mark nationally and internationally.

True, Azu didn’t set out to write a book for entrepreneurs. He is clear about the purpose of the book. He could no longer ignore suggestions from admirers to share his experience in a permanent form, having been writing for more than 35 years.

His words: “I thought perhaps it might be useful to combine my speaking experiences with decades of reporting, editing and writing a weekly column now enriched in both audio and visual formats, to serve the needs of a younger generation of content providers, especially students and those in the earlier stages of their career, trying to find their way and also trying to make an honest living while doing so.”

He has, however, written a handbook for media entrepreneurs, especially online publishers. The Nigerian media landscape is inundated with several online newspapers, most of them in the general news category, financially challenged and struggling to carve a niche in a way that can guarantee their continued operations.

The critical issue in online publishing is content. Other issues like search engine optimisation, digital marketing, website friendliness, and social media presence are also vital to the success and sustainability of an online media business. However, the factor that binds all these and makes a platform stand out is content. That is why Bill Gates said content is king.

An online publisher would find chapters 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 13 and 14 helpful. In these chapters, the author offers prescriptions that, if followed religiously, could lead to tremendous success. Apart from content, the author discusses the choice of subject, style, audience, staying out of trouble, etc.

His reference to an article by his former lecturer, Dr Olatunji Dare, on stalactites and stalagmites, for example, makes the point that evergreens do far better than ephemeral content, even on social media.

In Writing for the Media and Monetising It, Azu delves into the distinction between style and substance. He takes the reader through the efforts he made to create his style from a long list of writers he admired, from acclaimed journalists like Dele Giwa, Ray Ekpu and Yakubu Mohammed to literary writers like Chinua Achebe and Mark Twain before he settled on his unique style.

Azu deals with the subject of knowing one’s audience in Chapter 4. He writes: “Not everyone is interested in what you say. For those who follow you, however, you must find valuable ways of connecting with them in a world of many, often noisy and confusing voices.”

The author gives tips on how a writer can build their audience and earn money from content provided for that audience. In online publishing, a platform can adapt the tips given by the author, carve a niche, focus on that niche and earn money from that niche.

The author discusses content creation in detail, using the examples of Linda Ikeji, the blogger; Abdulsalam Idris, who has recorded tremendous success sharing content on X (now Twitter); Adeola Fayehun, producer of ‘Keeping It Real with Adeola’, and Tunde Olaoluwa Adekunle, blogger, comedian, entertainer and musician.

And hey, Azu’s book promotional videos in the last few weeks, ahead of the public presentation of his book in Abuja on June 26, is a master class in content creation!

His book is easy to read. I hardly put it down when I started reading it. The book’s strength lies in the practical examples the author uses to explain the issues discussed. He tells the reader about his own experiences, the challenges he encountered along the way, and the steps he took to overcome those challenges.

The sentences and paragraphs are short, and the design and layout are compelling. A reader can do exercises to engage or explore each subject further. In addition, each chapter has boxes, tips and reading lists for easy reading.

Whether one is a mass communication student, a journalist, a journalism teacher, a media entrepreneur or a New Media enthusiast, there is something in the book for everyone.

Why Nigeria Is Sending Astronaut To Space – FG

Uche Nnaji - Minister of Innovation-Science and Technology

By Akinwale Kasali

Nigeria is set to make history by sending the first ever Nigerian Astronaut to Space.

In achieving this feat, Nigeria and the Space Exploration and Research Agency, SERA, from Delaware, USA, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to send the first Nigerian to space.

Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who signed the MoU on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja said that human spaceflight was a major aspiration of Nigeria.

Nnaji said:  “Human spaceflight is not just a random aspiration of our Country, but a major objective of the Nigeria Space Policy and Programme which was approved by the Federal Executive Council, FEC, in 2001.

“Reviving and implementing all abandoned national plans is a cardinal point of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of President Bola Tinubu. This partnership provides a way of achieving our long-time aspiration as a nation,” he said.

The Minister added that the slot could be available from now till December, or in 2025, as SERA would still be test-running the platform.

Matthew Adepoju, Director- General of NASRDA, said the cost of sending a Nigerian to space had been fully sponsored by SERA, adding that the event marked the commencement of the agency’s efforts to implement part of its roadmap of having a human spaceflight.

He also said the event was worth celebrating at a time Nigeria was marking the 25 years of its space programme.

“The Human Spaceflight programme is one of the cardinal objectives of National Space Policy and Programme.

“It was with this in mind that we established the Department of Physical and Life Sciences about three years ago to forge this mandate.

“This is also coming as one of our deep space explorations because there are many spinoffs that will come from the collaboration and opportunities opened for Nigerians,” he said.

Joshua Skurla, Co-Founder of SERA, said that 80 per cent of astronauts, globally, had exclusively emanated from three countries.

Skurla noted that Nigeria had a rich history of scientific, technological innovation, adding that SERA was excited to partner with NASRDA to extend the legacy into space and create new opportunities for Nigerian space explorers.

While Sam Hutchison, Founder of SERA, said that the application to be in space was open to any Nigerian older than 18 years, in spite of their discipline.

“The Nigerian people will choose the citizen to go to space, the process of application will be open to anybody who is over 18 years, and there are no other qualifications required.

“You will be able to sign up and then encourage others to vote for you; as part of democratic process, the Nigerian people will select four potential astronaut candidates before a final selection process”.

By Akinwale Kasali

Following the abysmal performance of the Super Eagles in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Squirrels of Benin Republic, the Team has dropped from its 30th Position in the FIFA Ranking to 38th Position.

The Super Eagles now have 1498.93 points, a decrease from their previous 1520.27 points.

The latest drop of the Nigerian National Team marks a significant shift in the global football landscape, as Nigeria continues to face challenges on the international stage.

Nigeria was ranked 30th before now following its Runners Up position at the 2023 African Cup of Nations championship in Côte d’Ivoire. But its recent decline is as result of bad outing of late.

Nigeria’s hopes for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers remain doubtful, as the Nation failed to secure victories in these crucial matches.

Meanwhile, Argentina maintained its top position in the rankings, solidifying its status as the leading football Nation in the world.

The South American giants gained 2.14 points, bringing their total to 1860.14, reflecting their consistent high-level performance in recent tournaments.

The FIFA rankings, reported by PUNCH Online, are calculated using the Elo model, which considers team strength, match importance, and results.

Liberia remain the biggest climber in the rankings, moving up 10 positions to a new highest rank of 142nd.

Liberia also scored the most points, gaining 37.47 points.

Equatorial Guinea experienced the biggest drop, falling 10 positions and losing 47.53 points, marking a significant downturn in their ranking.

Suspension Of Health Commissioner, Alleged  Corruption In Govt Circles: Abia PDP, Gov Otti Trade Tackles

0
Alex Otti - Governor of Abia State

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Abia State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday, June 19 ,2024, insisted that it was its relentless call for transparency and accountability in the conduct of Government business that led to the suspension of the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo from office.

The Abia State Government had, penultimate week, suspended Dr. Okoronkwo, citing the need for an unfettered inquest into some allegations of misconducts against her and her office as reason.

The PDP, Abia State Chapter, while reacting to her sack,  not only  claimed  credit for the Government’s disciplinary action, but, also,  called for an extension of the cleansing exercise to other ministries and Government Agencies.

But reacting to PDP’s claim, Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kalu,  in a statement entitled “The PDP’s Web Of Deceit And Limits Of Propaganda” described its claims as a classic case of obtuse grandstanding, designed to mask its failures and corruption-ladden administrations in the state ,in last 24 years.

The Abia State Government’s spokesperson rather  attributed the fate of the suspended Health Commissioner to Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to the enthronement of a regime of transparency in the State.

“His commitment to good governance, transparency and accountability, has raised the bar for leadership in the state.

“Governor Otti’s suspension of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, therefore, demonstrates his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for misconducts by Government appointees.

“This bold action sends a clear message that Abia State will no longer be a haven for impunity by those in public office .

“Consequently, Ndi Abia have seen the difference between a Government that cares for its citizens and one that looted their commonwealth .

“Abians are witnesses to the transformative power of good governance in all ramifications and they will not be swayed by PDP’s empty claims and propaganda .

“Governor Alex Otti’s administration has brought a new dawn to Abia state ,marking a departure from the PDP’s destructive era. The PDP’s corruption and looting of Abia state’s resources are well documented .

“Billions of Naira meant for development projects were diverted into private pockets, while the State’s infrastructure and institutions were left to decay” Prince Kalu stated .

However, the PDP appears neither persuaded nor deterred by the Abia state Government position.

In a statement issued  late Wednesday, June 19,  by  Abraham Amah, Vice Chairman/Acting  Publicity Secretary captioned: “Governor Alex Otti And Camp Of Nazists” made available to The Source ,the Abia PDP  insisted that it is aware that the Accountant General of the State ,the Commissioner for Finance and some members of the Governor’s media team are under serious scrutiny .

“The Abia PDP insists that it is its call for transparency and accountability in the conduct of Government business that led to the investigation of the Commissioner for Health .

“And we also make bold to say that we are aware that the Accountant General, Commissioner for Finance ,and some members of the Governor’s media team are under very serious probe and investigations.

“True to type, they copied from their boss who has never followed due process and transparency in the award of contracts and continues to live large at the expense of Abians .

“We call for closer examination in other quarters. At every turn, Governor Alex Otti’s administration has never stopped twisting the narrative to evade critical issues of governance .

“The point the PDP made was  that the fire we constantly put under their feet exposed the grave allegations of massive corruption in the Health Ministry which led to the investigation and subsequent  suspension of the Commissioner for Health.” PDP noted.

Gov Otti Pays Fees For Abia Law Schools Students,  India, Removes His CPS, Approves C of O For Onyeka’s Football Academy

The Abia state Government on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, announced that it has opted to foot the school fees of about 271 indigenes of the state at the Nigerian Law Schools.

Similarly, reprieve also came the way of Abians studying in India ,as Governor Otti, directed that their tuition fees be paid. They were, allegedly, abandoned by the previous administration.

Okay Kalu the State Commissioner for Information ,who disclosed this at the end of an Executive Council Meeting, said the decision was made to ensure that all the concerned students complete their studies seamlessly.

“Following Governor Alex Otti’s interest and the high premium he places on students’ welfare, he has graciously approved the payments of school fees for Abia students in India.

“He also approved the payment of school fees for 271 Abia students at the Nigerian Law Schools” Kalu stated

According to the Commissioner, the State Government has assisted in securing accreditation for about 19 academic programmes for the State owned University in Uturu .

Also, in keeping with its avowed determination to encourage meaningful investments in the State, Prince Kalu ,informed that Governor Otti, has directed that a Certificate of Occupancy C of O be processed  within the next 48 hours for  Abia born Football International ,Frank Onyeka for the purpose of establishing a football academy in the State .

Onyeka, who had earlier on visited Governor Otti, alongside his wife and Baba Datti Ahmed , Peter Obi’s Presidential Running mate ,in the 2023 presidential election, is an indigene of Isukwuato Abia state .

The Nigerian International is billed to establish the academy in Aba and Umuahia .

Meanwhile,  the Abia State  Governor, has rejigged his Media department. He removed his Chief Press Secretary Kazie Uko, and replaced him with Njoku  Ukoha Njoku.

No reasons were adduced for the change of baton but, in the wake of the enforcement of a sit-at-home order declared by IPOB on May 30, Uko had issued a statement which stated that Governor Otti said he was not going to confront the promoters of the much condemned and abused order as people were free to mourn their dead who were victims of Nigeria Civil War genocide the way they deemed fit. The Governor later distanced himself from the statement which turned a huge embarrassment for him as it coincided with the unprovoked murder of five soldiers in Aba by alleged enforcers of the order. Three of the murdered soldiers hailed from Abia State.
