The Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday August 19, 2025, has vowed to unravel the circumstances surrounding the brutalization of some youth corps members ,and the stripping of one of the female members among them by operatives of the state’s local security group, Operation Udo Gachi.
This is as a Civil Society Organizations ,the Haven 360 Foundation, in a statement, strongly condemned the action of the security outfit, also known as Agunechemba Vigilante Group, noting that it represents a new low in the outfit’s act of brutality against innocent citizens.
The Source reports that a footage of a viral video in circulation shows a gory and despicable scene where the local security operatives, after brutalizing the Corps members , singled out on Jennifer Edema Elohor, and stripped naked at Oba Community, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement by the Haven 360 Foundation ,the perversive security personnel had after invading the Corpers’ lodge , accused the corps members of engaging in internet fraud notorious as yahoo hahoo.
But despite pleading their innocence, including branding their official identity cards,the Anambra state local security personnel ,still went ahead to subject the Corps members to serious beatings and humiliation.
“We strongly condemn the brutal assault and violation of rights of National Youth Service Corps members by operatives of the Operation Udo Gachi or Agunechemba Vigilante Group in Anambra’ state.
“On July 23 ,2025 these state actors stormed the Corpers’ lodge accusing the members of being “yahoo people despite their prompt production of their NYSC identification cards and uniforms.
” The assault was particularly egregious in the case of Jennifer Edema Elohor, who was beaten, stripped naked ,and left exposed and covered in blood.
” The victims were subjected to unsavoury , horrible, sexually degrading words and actions l, including threats of sexual violation”, the group stated.
The Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga ,however, while speaking on Channels Television programme, “The Morning Brief” on Tuesday condemned the action of the operatives.
He informed that those who were involved in unfortunate incident have been arrested and are in custody.
“The action is very wrong. What they did to that lady ( Jennifer Edema Elohor) is very very wrong.
” We ,the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command, are ready to make sure that we enforce justice as far as this case is concerned.
” The point I want to make here is that the victim is not satisfied with the process she went through trying to get justice from the leadership of Agunechemba Vigilante Group. That was the reason she reported the matter directly to my office, and we will make sure that justice is served here”, the police spokesperson assured.
