Tension enveloped the Ondo State House of Assembly on Friday as armed security operatives shut the Assembly Complex gate at Alagbaka Akure, thus preventing the Valedictory sitting of the lawmakers

The action of the policemen and others may not be unconnected with a suspected plot by the outgoing members of the Assembly to impeach the Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun.

Already, a letter of resignation, said to have been written by the embattled speaker, which the assembly spokesman described as fake, is in circulation.

It was gathered that the two gates of the assembly complex were blocked by armed security men from the Nigeria police.

It was still uncertain why the Lawmakers are planning to impeach the speaker, few days to the end of their tenure.

When contacted on telephone, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Olugbenga Omole confirmed that armed security men prevented the final plenary sitting of the Assembly that supposed to hold today, Friday.

Omole dismissed insinuation that the Speaker had resigned, adding that the signature of Oleyelogun was forged on a fake letter in circulation.

The outgoing Spokesman of the House said there are plots to scuttle the last sitting of the 9th Assembly.

Things fell apart at the assembly long ago when the deputy speaker, Ogundeji Iroju was removed and replaced by Samuel Aderoboye.

Iroju’s petition to the anti graft agency culminated in the arraignment of the speaker and others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).

What could have promoted last minute planned removal of the speaker still remains unknown.
