Police Speak On Ikeja Explosion

The Lagos State Police Command has reacted to the explosion that rocked Ikeja, one of the state’s business district on Friday night. The explosion which occurred close to the popular Computer Village left no fewer than five persons wounded.

The injured have been taken to the LASUTH for treatment, according to the state police command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin.

According to eyewitnesses who gave different accounts of what actually happened, the  explosion occurred inside a CCTV dealer’s shop on Kodesho Street, near the Ikeja Under Bridge.

Hundeyi, a Chief Interdependent of Police said in a statement that the command has now launched investigations to what led to the explosion.

He hinted that security agencies, including operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, Mobile Police Detachment, and conventional police teams were immediately dispatched to the area to cordoned it off in other to ensure public safety and order.

“The scene was swept by the EOD experts of command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, who visited the area after the incident has urged residents to remain calm as they go about their duties.
