The Enugu State Police authorities said they have arrested no fewer than 10 suspected kidnappers and rescued 28 victims in a coordinated multiple operations in the last ten days.
Similarly, during the operations, that were mostly intelligence-driven, a large quantity of firearms, ammunition,and exhibits, including cash, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, and others were recovered.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Command’s Spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, informed that the operations which were carried out in collaboration with the Enugu State Neighbourhood Watch, Forest Guards and Community members on May18 2025, resulted in the rescue of two male and two female kidnap victims along Umumba/Ndiuno/Aguoba Road in Ezeagu local of the state.
Similarly, on the same day, following a distress call, officers from the 9th Mile Division apprehended a suspect and three accomplices after a failed kidnap attempt on a female would- have -been victim.
“Operatives from Okpuje Police Division of the Command, in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch, and forest guards, on 17, 2025, carried out a strategic bish-combing operation in a forest bordering Okpuje in Enugu and Odolu in Kogi State.
“During the operation, they intercepted two men found with N150,000,and N70 000 respectively, intended for ransom payments ,as well as loaves of bread, and drinks requested by the kidnappers.
“Upon further incursion, the team encountered armed resistance from kidnappers, but responded with superior firepower, forcing them to flee with gunshot wounds, and abandoned the victims ,a pump-action gun and two live cartridges.
“The victims were rescued unhurt ,and the exhibits were recovered .Efforts to track down the fleeing suspects are ongoing”, the Police stated.
In the same vein, operatives from the Igbo Eze North police formation, in conjunction with military personnel and the Neighbourhood Watch, successfully rescued 21 kidnap victims in the Amaka/Okpodu Community in Kogi state on May, 14, 2025.
Most of the rescued victims were said to have been abducted while returning from a traditional marriage ceremony on May 10, 2025, in Iyionu/Aguibe Road in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Following the receipt of credible intelligence, five suspects were subsequently apprehended in connection with the incident, according to the police.
Several weapons, ammunition, suspected stolen minibus, and four motorcycles used for operations were seized during the operation.
Operatives from the state’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad were said to have on May 13, 2025, equally rescued a victim along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway, recovering, in the process, a Toyota Camry vehicle.
Also recovered were a white Toyota Corolla vehicle used by the suspected hoodlums as well as a Lexus 330 SUV which was abandoned at the scene at Premier Layout, Independence Road Enugu .
