Police, Chinese Company Disagree Over Payment Of Ransome For Release Of Staff |The Source

Ekiti state Police Command and a Chinese engineering company are divided on how a Chinese that was kidnapped in the state last week was released.

The Chinese, abducted last Friday in Ado Ekiti, is a staff of a construction company handling the new Ado/ Iyin road project.

Sources close to the firm disclosed that a ransome of N100 million was paid before his release was secured.

But the State  Police Command  spokesman, Sunday Abutu said no ransome was paid, and that combined efforts of security personnel led to his release.

The Chinese was reportedly found along Igede/ Ilawe road where he was dumped after the kidnappers collected the alleged N100 million Ransome from the construction firm.

Governor Kayode Fayemi had earlier visited the construction company site to allay the fears of  workers and assured them of adequate security protection.

According to the Governor, armed soldiers are to be deployed to guard the expartriates to complement the police effort.

The police escort guarding the Chinese was shot dead by the abductors before he was whisked away.
