Police Arrests Another Suspect In Attack On Amegu, Ebonyi State

The Ebonyi State Police Command has announced the arrest of yet another suspect linked to the gruesome attack on Amegu Nkalaha Community of the State.

The Source reports that  some gun men had, on February, 2, 2025 invaded the community, leaving behind no feawer than 15 deaths. Several others were seriously injured.

The attack also led to the razing of many homes ,and destruction of properties worth hundreds of millions of Naira.

Last week, the police authorities announced  the arrest of the first suspect during an operation that also led to the dismantling of a hide out used by the suspected hoodlums to launch the attack.

A statement issued on  Friday, February, 14, 2025 by  the Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson Joshua Unandu SP, stated that the second suspect was arrested following an intelligence driven operation that targeted another of the hoodlums’ camps in Amegu and Umulesha villages all in Nkalaha community in Ishielu Local Government.

According to Ukandu ,the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other sister security agencies in the state.

“Security operatives, acting on credible intelligence stormed hoodlums’ camps in Amegu and Umulesha villages within the Nkalaha Community.

“The hoodlums, upon sighting the operatives, opened fire. However, the brave operatives engaged them, and overpowered the criminals with superior firepower.

“The suspects reportedly fled into the bush and one of them was apprehended” the Police noted.

The operatives ,Ukandu noted, destroyed the suspects’ camps including shrines in both villages.

Items recovered during the operation were two dane guns, a mobile phone and a motorcycle.

The Police spokesman, reassured of the commitment of security agencies to intensify efforts at tracking down the remaining members of the criminal gang that perpetrated the heinous crime in Amagu.
