Monday Ubani, a human rights lawyer said the former Task Forces Team has not been discharged from the allegations of mismanaging billions of naira contrary to some reports, that the essence of his release is to make him have access to his lawyers and prepare for his defence.
Maina was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Okon Abang, on October 25, 2019, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside his son, Faisal, and firm, Common Input Property and Investment Ltd. and had been in detention since the period.
Speaking on Tuesday after his release, Maina’s Lawyer, Adeola Adedipe, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that the ex-PRTT boss was released after completing the necessary documents for his freedom.
He said Maina should have been released early safe for administrative procedures.
“It was already late last week Friday so they now have a new timeline shifted at 6 ‘O’ clock.We went there and everything was done,” he said.
Adedipe expressed happiness that Maina has finally been released.
