National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that the national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu personally signed the letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), announcing the party’s forthcoming November national convention.

The party refuted claims of “signature forgery” that were brought forward by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Anyanwu.

Speaking on behalf of the NWC at a press conference held in Abuja on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba asserted that Anyanwu personally signed several official letters, including the notification sent to INEC about the PDP’s convention, which is scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The PDP insisted that the documents were signed just hours before the 102nd National Executive Committee meeting held on August 25, and this signing occurred in the presence of state governors, NWC members and others.

Ologunagba specified that the signing took place in the presence of key PDP figures, including:

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal

Former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki, “among others.”

Furthermore, Ologunagba noted that at the subsequent NEC meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed, who is the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, confirmed that all relevant letters, including the one to INEC, had been duly signed.

Anyanwu had written to both INEC and the relevant security agencies, disclaiming the document and insisting that his signature was criminally forged.

In a strongly worded letter dated October 15, 2025, and addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chairman of INEC, Anyanwu said he neither signed nor authorized any correspondence relating to the planned convention.

“My attention has been drawn to the above titled official letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with Ref. No. PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol. 1M/25 – 140 dated Monday, August 25, 2025 purportedly signed by me.

“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorized or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged/cloned version of my signature on the letter

“I therefore, request that this criminal conduct by officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their collaborators within INEC be investigated and the culprits prosecuted.”
