Stop your wishful thinking, we have no plan to join the All Progressives Congress, APC, governors elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP have told the Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello over his claims that 10 PDP governors have made up their minds to defect to the APC.
“There is no attraction whatsoever for any PDP member not to talk of a PDP Governor to join the APC, a party bedeviled by crises, without even an elected leadership as envisaged by Section 223 of the 1999 Constitution that specifically requires the Executive Committee of every political party in Nigeria to be democratically elected, “ said C.I.D. Maduabum, Director General of the PDP Governor’s Forum, PGF on Friday.
Bello shocked many Nigerians on Friday after he revealed that 10 PDP governors were ready to dump their party for APC, adding that their defection will bolstered the ranks of his party for the 2023 presidential election.
The APC has been marred in deep leadership crisis, climaxing in the dissolution of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC on Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In spite of the bickering in the party, Governor Bello said the APC is strong and was already preparing to welcome defecting PDP governors to swell its ranks.
But the PGF led by Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state described the APC as a sinking ship that nobody would like to associate with.
Reacting to the claim Maduabum said the 17 PDP governors are more focused in delivering dividend of democracy in their states, adding that the defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, to the party, is an indication that PDP is now the beautiful bride.
He said “This statement does not merit any response but for the fact that it may demoralise PDP members and Nigerians who are not aware of the facts.
It is obvious that this is a diversionary tactic to shore up the sagging morale of APC members who are mourning the loss of yet another state Governor, Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to the PDP, as a result of the chaos and anarchy currently existing in the APC, following the mismanagement of their affairs as acknowledged even by Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
The PDP Governors are very focused on delivering good governance and the benefits of democracy to their respective states and working tirelessly to strengthen and reposition the party.”
The PDP said President Buhari’s dissolution of the NWC suggests that the APC does not respect the country’s constitution.
President Buhari, on Thursday sacked the NWC; appointed Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe state to run the party under a caretaker arrangement, thus bringing the protracted leadership crisis under Adams Oshiomhole to an abrupt end.
The president’s action has further polarized the party as some aggrieved members of the dissolved NWC have threatened to drag the president to court.
