There was pandemonium at the Kuje Correctional Centre following the death of an inmate. His fellow inmates embarked on a protest early Monday morning.
The inmates lamented the ill-treatment meted on their fellow inmate that died. They cited the failure of the Prison authorities to give prompt medical attention to him.
It was further gathered that some inmates also attempted to escape from the prison facility amidst the tension but were prevented by the Warders.
Officials of the prison confirmed the death of the inmate to our correspondent.
“The guy had been sick for weeks now, but the situation deteriorated last night and the Wardens refused to attend to him until he gave up the ghost around 6:28 am this morning,” a Prison official was quoted to have said.
It would be recalled that the Custodial Centre in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, was attacked by terrorists in early July, leading to the escape of over 800 inmates, including 68 Boko Haram members.
