A Lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, Imo State,  Dr Christopher Echereobia, has lost his car while celebrating Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary in Owerri town.

Dr Echereobia had gone to the official celebration of the Anniversary in Imo State held at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Square (former Heroes Square). But the celebration brought nothing but sorrow to him as his car,  a Toyota Camry, was stolen at the venue.

An eye witness account said it was a shocked and distraught Academic who came out after the celebration, made for the spot where he packed his car, but found it was no longer there.

With his car key dangling in his hand, he searched,  everywhere, accompanied by sympathisers, but the search was in vain.

Dr Echereobia’s Camry Car Saloon Car is ash in colour. It’s registration number is Imo AE 446 IMD, with Engine No 55098445, and chassis number 4115K12E15U642123.

An information put out  asked for help from the public to locate the car, with a promise of a reward.

Since the era of kidnapping, the stealing of cars has been rare.

Said a Police source in Owerri, “This is a rare occurrence. Criminals have graduated from stealing cars to stealing human beings for all kinds of purposes. The Lecturer’s car will be found. It was probably stolen to commit a crime. It is likely to be abandoned somewhere thereafter.”
