The directive by Osun State Government for an audit of the State workforce has set the two leading political parties against each other with the opposition All Progressives Congress, (APC), saying it is a sign of early failure by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP in its reaction declared that “The statement by the APC in Osun state was the latest in the party’s deceptive plot to hoodwink workers into believing it actually cares for them.”
The APC also stated that it sympathized with the Osun civil servants in the way that they were treated by the consultant handling the audit exercise.
A statement by the state Chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Lawal, in Osogbo, wondered why the state governor could not successfully conduct a staff audit, claiming that it was bungled because Adeleke is bereft of what is required to excel in the office as a governor.
“Successive events at the corridor of power in Osun State from November 27, 2022 to date are pointers to the fact that Governor Adeleke has nothing to offer the state but he is only interested in the glamour of the office of the governor at the expense of the improved fortune of the state.
“Has Governor Adeleke forgotten that he promised to pay all the accumulated pensions, gratuities and salaries of pensioners and active workers within six months of his administration during the governorship campaign?
“It is worthwhile to make a remark that with the promise and fail attitude of Governor Adeleke to the request of the active government workers and the pensioners, the immediate-past Governor Gboyega Oyetola has been vindicated as it’s on record that the former governor would never promise what he wouldn’t be able to provide or achieve.”
The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), lashed out at the Osun APC, alleging that the party wants to use the minor disagreement to launch itself back into the reckoning of the people.
In a statement by the state Chairman, Sunday Bisi, the PDP which stated that the APC’s sympathy was fake, noted that their record on civil servants’ management was replete with disaster.
Bisi while defending the governor added that Adeleke is committed to improving the situation of workers in the state.
He maintained that the PDP-led government will continue to pursue initiatives that will improve efficiency and accountability in the public service.
“The statement by the APC in Osun was the latest in the party’s deceptive plot to hoodwink workers into believing it actually cares for them.
“But the truth, which is well inherent in its record, is that historically, APC has never served the wellbeing of the civil servants, as the history of pains and anguish it had caused them over the years can never be forgotten.
“For the umpteenth time, the APC must stop pretending to be what it is not, because it can only deceive itself, not the ever intelligently vigilant workers in Osun, who have suffered a series of inhuman treatment in its hand over the years.
“Osun people, and indeed of the genuine efforts that Governor Adeleke’s administration has put in place to improve the state’s workforce service delivery which the ongoing audit will also compliment.”
