As the people of Osun State prepare for the July 16, 2022 Governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured of its readiness.
The Commission also promised that the election will not be inconclusive.
This comes as the Commission announced that it has registered 600,020 voters online, with over 250,000 of them having completed the process.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji, announced this during a roundtable discussion with stakeholders ahead of the 2022 Gubernatorial election.
Justice Development and Peace Makers Centre (JDPMC) Osogbo hosted the conversation.
According to Raji, the Commission has received non-sensitive Electoral materials and is working to ensure a smooth election process.
“We’re here to engage with the stakeholders, notably the CSOs, and we’ve explained our level of preparedness and everything we’ve put in place to ensure a peaceful election.
“With the exception of sensitive materials, we have received delivery of the supplies we required for the election. All we are asking for is the people of Osun state’s full participation.
“We are prepared to hold an election that is free, fair, credible, inclusive, and conclusive. We want an election that is free of violence.
“On the internet, Osun State has over 600,020 registered voters, with over 250,000 having completed their registration.”
Coordinator of JDPMC, Rev. Peter Akinkunmi, had earlier appealed to all in his welcome message.
“Electoral process in Osun state in the last few years has been amazing as a result of partnership between INEC, Civil Society Organizations, and the media as well.
“It has been a wonderful experience that has allowed us to make significant progress in Osun’s democracy.
“We need to be in continual communication with one another to comprehend new developments and the difficulties that arise from them so that we can prepare appropriately.
“Just as INEC has improved its use of technology, which has had an impact on the election process, civil society organizations and the media are enhancing their use of technology in their engagement in the electoral process.”
