Senator Adams Oshiomhole has some advice for former President Goodluck Jonathan. It is to distance himself from the 2027 Presidential Race. “You have managed to demonstrate that out of power, you can be relevant and at peace. Stay there.”, Oshiomhole advised.
Oshiomhole’s words to Jonathan come on the heels of the pressure on the former President to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential polls and Jonathan’s uncomfortable silence in the face of the strong speculations that he would.
But speaking Sunday night on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oshiomhole told Jonathan that only his enemies would want him to throw his hat into the race just to rubbish him.
He said with the global status Jonathan has attained, running in 2027, and losing would damage his political image.
He said Jonathan, since he left office in 2015, has remained relevant and respected and should strive to maintain that status instead of plotting an elusive come back.
Oshiomhole: “If I were to advise him, I will say ‘Sir, maintain this status.’ If I were him, I will spend the rest of my life trying to find relevance which he has already found”
On Jonathan’s chances if he were to contest or if he is a threat to President Tinubu, Oshiomhole was swift:
“I have a lot of respect for him. Now how can Jonathan be a threat? We defeated him before when PDP was truly PDP. If a man had a PDP at his best, at his peak, and he was defeated, I think only his enemy will push him to go into the race.
“There are other issues that may not be helpful to him. I think he has managed to demonstrate that out of power, you can be relevant and be at peace.
“We will defeat him if he comes out flatly, very flatly, because the South is no longer PDP. So, where is he going to start from?
Oshiomhole, a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, was, also, a two-term Governor of Edo State and a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
