Adams Oshiomhole, the embattled chairman of the All Progressives Congress, signifies the most recent knell in the coffin of the notion that the federal government is seriously fighting corruption. Allegations by opposition PDP has been vociferous in condemning the anti corruption war of president Buhari as witch hunt.
Oshiomhole has been accused of bribery and corruption by the duo of Rochas Okorocha and Ibinkunle Amosun, both APC governors, over disagreements on the conduct of the governorship primaries of their state. Incidentally, most politically motivated court cases are said to be instituted by APC against APC party members.
The duo had written to the Directorate of State Services, DSS, announcing their allegations, an event that led to the invitation of the party boss by security agency as reported by this magazine recently.
The magazine gathered that after meeting with President Buhari in Abuja, Oshiomhole was shocked by the presidential position, which indicated he was not aware of what was happening to him-Oshiomhole-in connection with the invitation. More shocking was the fact that some members of the National working committee feigned ignorance of the whole drama, a situation that, according to sources, decided the embattled chairman’s resolve to abandon the war front. Indications are that he is not going to come back in a hurry, as he is afraid that the case against him by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission, EFCC, may be resurrected due to pressures from his detractors. And he wants to take no chances.
With this scandal that has rocked the apex of the party, the Buhari Media Group are in a quagmire as to how to manage the crisis. Buhari as hooked his campaign issues on anti corruption war, and it appears tat he has lost on that front
Besides that corruption scandal that rock the party, their has been so much disgruntled elements whose wishes were shattered by the party. It also appears that this government can boast of more fifth columnists than any in the history of this country. Only recently Rochas Okorocha, Imo state governor, hinted that APC will lose in the whole of south east, including Imo state.
As things stand, it has been gathered that at least five APC governors are working for the PDP behind the scene, and may at the last minute decamp to the opposition party. It is also believed that the issue of the WASC result, the most recent in the basket of embarrassments, is an in-house job calculated to embarrass him and weaken his political position.”More of such embarrassment is expected as the campaign period approaches”, says a source close to party hierarchy’, “and the betrayal will come from some very trusted aids. The North has turned their back on Buhari this time. Apart from southerners, how many Northerners have you seen defending Buhari with vehemence””, he queried.
