Just a few days after it carpeted an Aide to Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu over unguarded utterances, the Organized Labour has given the state government eight days, beginning from Thursday, to settle workers’ accumulated salaries and deductions.
In the alternative or failure to comply, the state government should expect the workers’ wrath – a long drawn industrial action.
Investigation revealed that government is yet to pay October salary and six months deductions, which have affected various cooperative societies in the state public service and tertiary institutions.
Organized Labour, which includes the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), called on government to urgently convene a meeting with the Labour leaders on, or before friday August 27.
This is to enable the state government discuss how to pay the outstanding salaries and allowances.
The warning was contained in a letter addressed to the governor and signed by the state Chairmen and Secretaries of NLC, TUC and JNC, Sunday Adeleye-Oluwole, Helen Odofin, Niyi Fabunmi; Omokehinde Shado, Tajudeen Balogun and Kehinde Olomiye respectively.
The Labour unions pointed out that the state government had failed to honour various previous agreements reached over their demands on salaries and deductions payment.
Early in the week, the labour group had written to the Governor over unsubstantiated allegations by one of his Aides who accused teachers in public schools of using students for personal domestic duties.
