Ondo State University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED), has raised the alarm over unfounded allegations against the institution by some faceless groups.

The University is reacting to the latest letter to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa by a group, Coalition of Ondo State Indigenes Against Corruption, which called for probe of the University.

The Group’s spokesman, Feyi Emmanuel, had among other things, called for the sack of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Adesegun Fatusi

“Our demand is simple. Fatusi must go. He has wrecked and crippled the institution financially.

“Mr. Governor, we urge you to urgently intervene and sack Fatusi.

“He has rendered our people jobless by ensuring that 70 per cent of UNIMED staffers are non-indigenes.”

In its reaction, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Isaac Oluyi, in a statement maintained that some of those writing such letters do not know how a university works.

“As far back as 2016 under the leadership of the pioneer VC of the University, there had been spurious allegations bordering on high-handedness, and lopsidedness in appointment, among others by faceless protesters who operate under different unrecognized associations to distract the institution from concentrating on what matters.

“It is therefore not surprising to see the deployment of the stock-in-trade method of these hirelings disguising themselves as stakeholders in the affairs of the university again.

“It’s a familiar terrain. We must however not allow this to fester in the best interest of the university.

“Despite challenging infrastructural deficits and limited resources, the audacious mindset of the VC and his management has enabled the University to start the first Faculty of Medical Rehabilitation in West Africa.

“This operationalized the dream of the first full-fledged school of Public Health in Nigeria with its five departments and five Interdisciplinary centres.

“It commenced the first ever B.Sc. Community Health Sciences in Nigeria, established the first M.Sc. in Health Law and Policy in the country and now a PhD course in that field, partnered with the National Universities Commission (NUC) to bring in more than 10 new courses into the Nigerian university system, and much more.”
