Ondo Gets FG Nod For Deep Sea Port

Ondo State Government continues to intensify effort to ensure the take off of a deep sea port in the coastal area of the state.

The proposed deep sea port, according to government will serve as an alternative to Lagos port and boost the economy of the state.

It is also expected to expose to the outside world the large deposit of bitumen, which ranks the state as the third largest in the world.

Investors from within and outside the country have shown interest in the bitumen deposit, but could not go further due to absence of a nearby port needed for the exportation of the mineral deposit.

The state deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, acting as Governor now, led the state executive council members to the office of the vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to further make case for the deep sea port.

The visit seems to have yeilded positive result as the Vice President declared that, the Federal Government would support Ondo State Government to ensure the port becomes a reality.

Aiyedatiwa was accompanied on the visit by the Chairman/CEO, Nigeria in Diaspora Commission ( NIDCOM ), Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Osinbajo commended Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, for his vision on the Deep Seaport, believed to be the needed turning point for economic boost in the State.

Aiyedatiwa thanked the Vice President for the audience and federal Government’s commitment to the actualization of the seaport, promising that Governor Akeredolu’s administration would not relent in its efforts for a new and prosperous Ondo State.
