Ondo Cult War: Police Arrests 46 Suspects, Recovers Arms, Cult Insignias

In the aftermath of a deadly cult clash in Ondo town which claimed led to death of four persons and left many injured, the Ondo State Police Command has cracked down on cult-related violence. So far, it has  arrested 46 suspects in a coordinated raid.

The operation, which began in the early hours and lasted into the night of Saturday, was personally coordinated by the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayansola  Olushola, the suspects are believed to have strong ties with various cult groups responsible for the recent unrest.

Tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad (TIRS), were deployed to support divisional police units across Ondo City and surrounding areas.

The operation also resulted in the recovery of cult insignias, weapons, and ammunition allegedly used in the attacks.

“CP Wilfred Afolabi assured residents that the operation is part of a broader effort to restore peace and eliminate organized cultism across the state.

“This operation is just the beginning. We are fully committed to rooting out every element of cultism from Ondo State.”

The police command has pledged to work round the clock with other security agencies to sustain this momentum and keep Ondo safe.

“The Ondo State Police Command remains committed to restoring lasting peace and eliminating cult-related activities in the state through a robust and proactive intelligence network.

“Those arrested will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

The Police further urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring the public that all security agencies are working in synergy to sustain peace and secure the lives and properties of citizens across Ondo State.

The Police Spokesman confirmed that the suspects were arrested with firearms and ammunition in their hideouts across the town. Ayanlade emphasized that the police would not rest until all those responsible for the crisis were apprehended.

“Desperate times require desperate actions. Anyone arrested during the raid has one or two things to do with the clash.”

The police command has urged law-abiding citizens to cooperate with the authorities and provide timely information to support ongoing security efforts.

“We want the people of Ondo town and Ondo State generally to remain law-abiding and cooperate with the police.”
