Groups and associations in Akure speaking communities in Ondo state have applauded the decision of the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP) Gbenga Edema to nominate one of the indigenes as a running mate in November election.
The people that spread across Akure North, and south, part of Ifedore have been apprehensive following non emergence of any politician from the area as a running mate.
Some of them have accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of deceiving them to support him during the primaries with an assurance to pick his running mate from the area.
After the primary, Aiyedatiwa opted to stick to his incumbent deputy, Adelani, who is from Owo.
Mr. Gabriel Owoyemi, an elder and indigene of Ifedore Local Government commended the NNPP for nominating Rotimi Adeyemi, a retired Local Government Environmentalist and an indigene of Akure, in Akure South Local Government Area of the state as the New Nigeria People’s Party Deputy Governorship candidate.
He described the decision of the NNPP in the choice of Adeyemi, as Deputy Governor nominee as a good turn that will be rewarded with votes in the other.
Another Akure leader, Sunday Temitope Akintide-Gbangba, commended the NNPP on the choice of Adeyemi as Deputy Governorship candidate of the party.
He noted that it is only the NNPP of all the political parties in the State that has chosen an indigene of Akure as Deputy Governorship candidate.
The immediate Past President of Association of Akures in the Local Government of Ondo State, Oluwole Ademoyegun thumbed up the choice of Adeyemi as the NNPP Deputy Governorship candidate in the State.
He noted that it is an oversight for all other parties to have neglected the choice of making an indigene of Akure speaking area their Deputy Governorship candidate.
The Oke Aro group a social-philanthropist group in the Akure South Local Government area, commended the NNPP on its choice of making Adeyemi, the running mate to the party Governorship candidate, Edema.
In a release by the Vice President of the group, Abayomi Ojo, praised the NNPP on the choice of Adeyemi, as the party Deputy Governor nominee, saying it is a right decision and the placing of a square peg in a square hole.
He noted that all other political parties neglected picking an indigene of Akure speaking area for the Deputy Governor’s slot, save for the NNPP.
He stated that the voting population of the people of Akure speaking areas are such that could not be toyed with and these shall be delivered to their son at the election.
