Ondo state electorate is to be sensitized and educated on the choice of a credible candidate among those being put forward by political parties, ahead of the October 20 governorship election.
Also, a coalition group, Coalition 2020, disclosed that it has concluded plans to search for a gubernatorial candidate that will be sincerely ready to serve the people of the state.
The Chairman of the coalition, Chief Akin Akinbobola, said in Akure on Monday that the Governorship Candidates of parties that will participate in the October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election in the state are to undergo questioning with a view to identify who, among them, is ready serve the people of the state.
Coalition 2020 is a pressure group, which cuts across 37 political parties, over 300 social organizations, labour unions, professional associations and artisans.
According to Akinbobola, the Coalition would also see to what could be done to bring about real change to enhance dividends of democracy in the state.
His words: “The Coalition, is self-sponsored and will relate with political parties and interface with the people of the state so that they do not fall victim of deceit.
“We must vote for someone that will respect the people, and this can be done if everyone comes together. So, it shall become a stakeholders’ meeting. People must not take us for a ride. They have to serve us.
“The bottom line is that we need a servant and not a ruler for the state. The scrutiny will take place in late August. With the pandemic, we will need to design it in such a way to achieve maximum result.
“At the moment, Coalition has no candidate, until the scrutiny of all the candidates is done. We need a candidate that will take the people of the state to the real next level so that the people can feel governance. We don’t want our people to spend money on what government should provide.”
The two prominent candidates are the incumbent Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of the APC, and Eyitoye Jegede, SAN, of the PDP.
