Lawmaker representing Ogun West in the National Assembly, Senator Tolu Odebiyi, has identified good governance as a panacea for development.
Senator Odebiyi made the remark at the inauguration of South West Movement for Good Governance and Ethical leadership (MGGEL) held in Akure, Ondo state capital.
He said the challenges facing good governance in the country is a fallout of bad leadership that has over the years hindered development.
Senator Odebiyi represented by Engr Ayo Olubori bemoaned people at the helms of affairs for refusing to lift up the people, despite having the opportunity.
“It’s quite unfortunate that a good number of people at the corridor of power does not have any bearing in governance at all.
“Majority of people at the leadership positions in the country don’t have the needed quality that can produce good and meaningful governance in the country.”
On the formation of the movement, Senator Odebiyi noted the group is aimed at promoting leadership and good governance across the national politics adding that the group came at a time the country is preparing for the 2023 elections.
Ambassador Henry Bello, the convener and Director General of the group, said the country has suffered a lot due to lack of good governance, urging electorate to vote wisely during next year’s general election.
“This is the more reason the movement is agitating for good governance and ethical leadership for a change of government in the country.
“The movement is giving full suport for the emergence of Bola Tinubu/Shettima for the presidency because it believes the team will provide quality governance.”
According to him, the antecedents of Tinubu and Shettima when they were governors in Lagos and Borno states informed the movement’s opinion to give them their full support.
He pointed out that members will intensify efforts to give the APC presidential candidate victory at the election.
Mr Bello said that the movement has designed some campaign strategies which include visiting of markets by members to preach the gospel of Tinubu and Shettima.
“So; artisans like hairdressers, bricklayers, fashion designer and a host of the artisan will be involved while various professional bodies in the South West will be engaged.”
In her words, the National Women leader of Asiwaju totality and Iyalode Ojodu Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Babajide urged women in the group to go back to their various states to work hard for the emergency of Tinubu.
Highlights of the event was the inauguration of the coordinators for the group in the South West states, and local governments.
