Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister, has denied that he pledged to “hold down” his Party, the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, for President Bola Tinubu ahead of his re-election bid in 2027.
The Source reports that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, an estranged ally of Wike, had penultimate week, alleged that the former Rivers State Governor, at a meeting they had with the President, assured him that he will hold down the PDP in 2027 polls for an easy win for Mr President.
The Oyo state Governor cited the promise made by Wike as the major reason the two, who had worked together during the 2023 general elections to frustrate the ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, their party’s presidential candidate fell apart.
But speaking during his monthly interactive session with the media on Monday December 29, 2025 ,the FCT Minister while insisting that the allegations against him are unfounded, described Governor Makinde as a frustrated and cowardly person who lacks the courage to publicly declare his presidential ambition.
“Look ,Seyi Makinde has never all these while referred to me as Wike. This is the first time I have heard him calling me Wike . It is unfortunate.
“In the first place, let us ask what was the purpose of the so-called meeting that would have led me into promising to hold down the PDP for Mr President?
“In other words, why did it take Makinde this much time to come up with this allegation or complain about what Wike is doing.?
“Nevertheless, to set the record straight, there was no such meeting. Rather my humble self, the former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, the former Governor of Enugu state Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Seyi Makinde went to see the President.
“We went to see the President after the 2023 general elections were over to discuss certain things. While we were there, the Chief of Staff- you should know that the Chief of Staff is always around the president, came in.
“I said look, Chief of Staff, come and sit down, so we can remind the President what we had discussed earlier.
“There was nothing like a meeting we booked to go and see Mr President. So, it is completely out of place for anybody to say that during that meeting I told Mr President that I would hold PDP down for him.
“Makinde’s allegation is a very unfair one, totally unfair . But I am not all that surprised because the Oyo state Governor is frustrated.
“I have said it before that frustration, if you see Seyi Makinde ,you have as well seen frustration. In this case, we have advised the young man severally.
“Look ,politics is not like being a contractor with Shell. Politics has different rules. When did Seyi Makinde come into politics? There is nothing wrong with nursing ambition . But the ambition must be pursued according to the rules”, Wike stated.
