The comment was short, sharp, and straight to the point. It was apt.
In a response that not a few people say makes Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, look small, Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Peter, told Soludo: “You are more intelligent than me. You are a Professor, and I am a trader.” He then urged him to use his Professorship to do well the things he, Obi, did not do well when he was a Governor.
Obi who spoke when he went, on invitation, to the Lagos Business School, spoke in response to a very lengthy article where he dragged Obi in the mud.
In the article which shocked thousands of people, and scraped quite some from Soludo’s reputation, and attracted strong condemnation from far and wide, Soludo said Obi would never even take the third position in the oncoming February 2023 Presidential election. He said Obi was playing games and toying with the destiny of the Igbo. He said there were only two Political Parties and two candidates in the race.
He said Obi, by contesting is chipping away from the support base of the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, in the South-east, and making an easy pathway for the victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu.
He urged the Igbo to go now and negotiste with Atiku and Tinubu since one of them would be the President, and since because of Obi, Igbo votes would not matter in who emerges the President in 2023.
Finally, he ran down all Obi’s well-documented achievements in Anambra, especially, in the health and education sectors, just as he dismissed his investments for the State as nothing.
Since Soludo’s article was published, it has gone viral, and has attracted an avalanche of responses.
However, Obi who has been quiet since Soludo’s stinging write up responded, in few words, on Tuesday, November 15th to Soludo’s tirade against him.
Speaking at the LBS, Obi said: “Soludo is my senior brother and more intelligent than I am. He is a Professor, while I am a Trader. Now, he has the opportunity to do better than I did.
“Let him do those things that I was not able to do because Government is a continuum.”
Not a few people has acknowledged Obi’s response as brilliant.
