Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, has promised to support the Olubadan -Designate Oba Rashidi Ladoja to ensure that his tenure is successful, highlighting the role the city has played in accommodating all Nigerians.
Obi made the admonition when he paid Oba Ladoja a courtesy call on Sunday, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. He said Ibadanland is very important to the development of the country, citing the social-economic and political role it has played in the country’s history.
Oba Ladoja is expected to be coronated later in the moth as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan. His predecessor joined his ancestors recently.
According to Obi, Ibadan has played a key role as a home to all Nigerians, because of its hospitable people, and that role of welcoming people of all shades cannot be overemphasized.
He said the city is blessed to have Oba Ladoja as its traditional ruler, saying he will bring his wealth of experience as an administrator and politician to bear for the development of the ancient city.
Obi: “Ibadanland has always played a pivotal role in both socio-economic and political history of the country.
“Its place in the history of the country cannot be ignored. Ibadan is home to all because of the hospitable nature of the indigenes.
“Also, the ancient city is blessed with the likes of Oba Ladoja, who has seen it all as former governor and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“It is expected that his wealth of experience will be brought to bear in his new royal assignment as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
“Oba Ladoja will enjoy the support of all and sundry across the Country in his new assignment.
“On my part, I will render necessary assistance to make the reign of Baba as the 44th Olubadan successful.”
The Oyo state government has slated September 26 for the coronation of Oba Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
