The currently trending press release by former President Olusegun Obasanjo has currently put the presidency under pressure, so much so that several panic measures are being hurriedly put in place to boost the presidential ambition of the sitting president.
Already, immediately after he press release came out, the national leader of the all progressives congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and another chieftain, Bisi Akande, were reportedly summoned to Aso rock by the presidency to discuss the letter. Though Tinubu later denied that his visit has nothing to do with the press release, it was alleged that they were able to tell the president the home truth about the letter from the ex-president, and that he must act fast or forget the presidency in 2019. The visit was not lost on Obasanjo, who allegedly called the National leader of APC as he was stepping out of the presidential villa. “My leader, my leader”, he was said to have called Tinubu, who Immediately replied: “My father, my father”. What they discussed must have given Tinubu food for thought.
The presidency immediately summoned the Security Chiefs on a marathon meeting. This was almost all Fulani affair, and it was alleged that the meeting was held in Hausa language. Far reaching decisions were taken by the security chiefs, part of which is gagging the social media, since they are the greatest threat to the antics of the presidency. According to the security chiefs, security agencies have to monitor online activities of prominent Nigerians.The following day, President Buhari signed eight bills that has been lying on his table to sign-an unprecedented feat in the history the Buhari administration. One of the bills deals with immunity of National Assembly members from prosecution.
Obasanjo’s letter also prompted the presidency making clarifications on the appointment of a new National Intelligence agency boss, who is said to be a Chadian with a Moroccan wife, and who failed all his civil service promotion exams. The presidency insisted he is a Nigerian and highly qualified for the job.
