Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, says the defeat of President Donald Trump by Joe Biden is the victory of good over evil. He said by the victory, Biden, it is hoped would restore the rule of law and respect for international agreements and treaties.
Obadanjo made these remarks in a congratulatory letter he sent to the President-elect of the United States of America, USA, Joe Biden, and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.
Biden, the Democratic Party candidate defeated incumbent President Donald Trump in a tension-soaked election, which held the world captive, and for days, wracked nerves as the final results were awaited.
The election took place on November 3, but the winner did not emerge until Saturday, November 7. As at the time the winner was announced by most networks in the US, including the CNN and ABC, Biden had garnered the magic 270 Electoral votes to Trumps 213. Results from three other states – Arizona, Nevada and Michigan were still being awaited. Biden leads in all the three states.
In Obasanjo’s congratulatory letter to Biden and Vice President-elect, Kamala Harrison, Obasanjo said:
“I join millions in the United States of America and in the rest of the world who felicitate with you, President- Elect Joe Biden for your victory. It is a victory of good over evil, and it is not victory for you and the people of America alone, but victory for most people of the world that had been steadily and painstakingly built since tbe end of the second world war, was being pulled down. Not that the world was perfect and equitable, but it was reasonably predictable with some measure of rule of law and respect for international agreements and treaties. President-elect Joe Biden must restore confidence in the role of America as the largest economy in the world which has a very significant responsibility for the peace, security, stability and progress of the world.
“I felicitate with Vice President-Elect, Kamala Harris as the first female Vice President of the U.S., Barrack Obama, has Kenyan DNA in him and I am reasonably sure that the first African-American female Vice President-Elect of the US will have some Nigerian DNA in her as most of those tajen to the Caribbean from Africa went from Nigeria of today”
The letter was dated November 7. By the letter, the former President joined other world leaders, including Britain’s Boris Johnson as the early birds who congratulated Biden on the momentous victory.
