Ripples have not yet settled from the letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to Muhammadu Buhari, in which he accused President Buhari of pushing Nigeria to a Precipice of insurrection which may land Nigeria into the Situation.
In the face of the killing of the daughter of the Afenifere Chieftain, Ruben Fasoranti, Obasanjo had written to President Buhari, articulating the security situation and proffering solutions.
But in a meeting with the Buhari Campaign Organization in Aso Villa, Buhari made light of the security situation in the country, adding that those who are criticizing the presidency on account of insecurity are not patriotic. According to him, every country has its own share of insecurity, and their are issues of banditry everywhere.
But former president Jonathan, in a condolence visit to the Fasorantis, sided with Obasanjo, saying that insecurity has increased tremendously in the country.
“The issue of security must be approached from a different dimension. We cannot continue the old way because it is getting out of hand. We hope the federal and state governments will do something about it,” he said.
“Every generation face problems and this generation must find ways to solve these problems. Every government faces problem. The first commercial kidnapping, because it involved money, happened in 2006 when I was the governor of Bayelsa state. From that time, it moved to terrorism in the north. Now, it is a major problem in the country.
“The federal government in conjunction with state government must design a different approach to this issue. I was there as president and security challenge was there but now, it is getting worse everyday and we can’t continue to use the same old method”, he concluded.
Earlier, the Miyetti allah, the umbrella body of herdsmen in Nigeria, which suddenly has become untouchable and can flout presidential directives with no consequences, has called for the arrest of Obasanjo for writing a letter to Buhari.
