The Imo State Police Command has clarified that Mr Chinonso Uba, popular as Nonsonkwa was arrested by the Police Command Monday morning.
The clarification by the Command comes on the heels of reports, Monday morning, in some Social Media Platforms, to the effect that Nonsonkwa was abducted by unknown gunmen.
According to the Police Command, its Operatives arrested him on October 21, 2024, based on a petition written by a concerned over viral videos where he, (Uba) “engaged in Cyberstalking, Character Defamation, Spreading misinformation and inflammatory statements related to the razing of the National Open University (NOUN) Study Center in Nsu, Ehime Mbano LGA, on September 30, 2024, and, inciting civil unrest.”
The Command said he is currently detained at State Headquarters and will be arraigned in court with appropriate charges once a comprehensive investigation is completed.
“The Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace and order in the State. No individual involved in the tragic attack and burning of the NOUN study center will escape full legal consequences.
The statement by the Imo State Police Command was signed by its Spokesperson, Henry Okoye, ASP.
Recall that the NOUN Centre was invaded by gunmen and burnt down based on false information that the centre was for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, from the North. The country home of Senator Ibezim and that of his brother were also razed.
In a viral video, Nonsonkwa propagated the information which caused panic and distress in the State and beyond.
For the records, this is Uba’s second brush with the law. The first time, he was arrested in Owerri and transferred to Abuja.
Currently, he is in Court facing charges in a case with the State Government.
