The Labour Party, LP, candidate for the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship election, Chief George Moghalu has dismissed claims that he has been restrained from parading myself as the party’s flag bearer.
He has, therefore, advised opponents to meet him at the polls on Saturday November, 8, 2025, instead of dissipating their energies chasing shadows.
The Source reports that the social media was awash on Tuesday, August 26, with reports of a Federal High Court sitting in Enugu granting an order restraining Moghalu from further parading himself as the LP candidate for the Anambra State Governorship election pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice filed by some aggrieved party members.
In the substantive suit, the aggrieved LP members are challenging the validity and legality of the April 5 ,2025 , Labour Party Primaries conducted by the Julius Abure-led National Executive Committee NEC, a day after being sacked by the Supreme court of Nigeria.
They are demanding an order of the Court, declaring the primaries conducted by the Abure faction, which produced Moghalu as the party’s Governorship candidate, null and void.
The applicants are, also praying for an order of the court ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to only deal with the Senator Nenadi Esther Usman-led Interim National Working Committee, NWC, as the authentic leadership of the party in line with the April, 4, 2025 Supreme court ruling.
But in a statement issued late on Tuesday, Chief Moghalu dismissed the purported restraining order as a joke taken too far .
He accused detractors and opposition camps who are unsettled by his overwhelming acceptance by the people, of being behind the phantom order
He explained that his opponents completely misinterpreted the Court order to suit their predetermined purposes, noting that there was no where in the court ruling He was restrained as the LP Governorship candidate.
He called on those behind the misinformation to leave him alone and meet him at the polls on the election day.
“Ordinarily,I wouldn’t have bothered myself talking about social media speculations as a matter of personal policy.
But because of the sensitivity of the matter, and the need to do certain level of classification, it became necessary I speak to douse tension.
“That report is a joke of the highest order. It is clear that some persons are feeling threatened by my popularity and acceptability of my programmes for the people of the state .
These people have been looking for ways to stop me. Actually, we are expecting this one. For me, it actually came a bit late. But we will still respond to it.
“For the purposes of putting things in proper perspective, I came in and saw an order posted on one of my properties in my town. As a law abiding citizen, I requested the order be brought so that I can look at it.
“The order has seven prayers. Some of the prayers include that I should be restrained from parading myself as the gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party in Anambra state.
“They also asked for a restraining order on INEC not to accept whatever has to do with my nomination as a gubernatorial candidate.
“They also asked for substituted service. It is important to state that the last paragraph of the court order states that all other prayers are hereby denied while applicants are directed to place all respondents on notice.
“However, all parties, including the applicants and respondents must maintain status quo, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
“Everything they asked for except substitute service were denied. And the status quo is that Moghalu won the primary and was declared by INEC as LP candidate.
“Like I said , we know the source of this and those who procured it. They are only justifying their pay. I wish them well because it is an exercise in futility.
” I repeat, let them leave me alone and wait for me on November 8 at the polls”, Moghalu concluded.
