Nnamdi Kanu’s wife, Uchechi Okwu-Kanu is angry at his legal team. Mrs Kanu’s anger stems from what she described as their unprofessional and uncivilized conduct in the handling of her husband’s movement from the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, to the Sokoto Correctional Centre where he began his life sentence.
The Honourable Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had sentenced Kanu to life sentence after he convicted the leader of the Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra, IPOB, on all the seven charges preferred against him by the Federal Government.
After his sentencing, Kanu was abruptly moved to Sokoto.
His wife’s anger stems from the fact that members of his legal team, instead of, first, informing her of her husband’s movement, went and announced it on social media.
Reacting to that, a miffed Mrs Kanu said she has had enough of “the theatrics” of the lawyers and warned: “Enough is enough”.
He also warned them not to give her any stress, else she would suffocate them with her own stress.
Expressing surprise at her husband’s transfer to Sokoto, she said she was not informed at all.
She said: “Information reaching me about three hours ago is that my husband has arrived Sokoto prison.
“Those who went to see him today did not give me any update on his transfer. Rather, they ran to social media to broadcast it.
“If you do not sit up and behave in a civilized and professional manner, I will stress you with my stress. And I promise you, you will be stressed. Enough Of Your theatrics! Be warned.”
Recall that Kanu’s former Lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had, in a strongly-worded statement on Saturday, November, 22, blamed some members of Kanu’s legal team for the fate that befell the IPOB leader. He said they were more interested in cameras and social media and propaganda and lies instead of facing the crux of the case. He wondered how they allowed him disband his legal team led by internationally recognized senior Lawyers like Kanu Agabi, SAN and Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, when it mattered most, and opted to defend himself.
Kanu’s transfer to Sokoto was made public via the social media by his Special Counsel, Alloy Ejimakor.
