Nnamdi Kanu: Heightened Security In Abia State As Police Mounts 24-Hour Surveillance

The Abia State Police authorities have mounted heightened security in all parts of the State

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isah, on an unscheduled visit at the weekend, gave  marching orders  to heads of various police  formations to mount a round-the-clock surveillance around schools, particularly public institutions, faith-based centres and other critical infrastructural facilities in the State.

The Source reports that the heightened security arrangements  are believed to be part of proactive measures  meant to forestall security breaches in the face of the recent conviction and sentencing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra IPOB, and the spate of mass abductions, especially school children rocking some parts of the country.

There have been subdued tension, and anxiety within the South East region since Kanu was sentenced to life in jail by Justice James Omotosho of an Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday November 20,2025 .

Not are a few people are apprehensive that the region which has been the epicentre of agitations, violent activities, wanton destruction of properties and killings of innocent residents since the beginning of the travails of the IPOB leader, may be plunged deeper into the abyss as a result of the controversial Abuja Court’s pronouncement.

Although many political, religious and community leaders from the South East  including Peter Obi ,Dr Alex Otti ,the Abia State Governor ,and the Deputy speaker of the House of Representatives Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, have since sued for calm and understanding , there are palpable fears that the already fragile peace of region may be disrupted.by angry youths in particular.

The feeling of uncertainty, tension and fear is accentuated by the recent abduction of a sizeable number of school children in Kebbi and Niger states by  terrorists .

The unfortunate events have since forced the Federal Government , and some state Governments including Katsina, Kano l, Taraba ,Niger , Kwara, Plateau, Adamawa and Kebbi to order the closure of schools in security-challenged areas of their states, as well as issuing other security advisories meant to contain the ugly situation.

The Abia state CP who was accompanied on the visit by some Area Commanders, and heads of tactical units appealed to the people to always volunteer credible intelligence that could assist the police in adequately protecting the State.

He also called for calm and peace among the people.
