The National Judicial Council (NJC)  has declared that its statutory powers and functions on Judges’ appointments and promotions still remain.

The NJC said that a letter purportedly addressed to the Chief Judge of Kebbi State and signed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola which gave the power to state Governors,  did not emanate from  the Council or  the CJN who is the Chairman of the Council.
