Nigerians React As Wives  Of Adamawa LGs Chairmen Attend Seminar Abroad

Reactions have trailed the decision of local government chairmen in AdamawaThe wives of all 21 Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen in Adamawa State to send their wives on foreign seminar.

Already, the local first ladies have landed in Istanbul, Turkey, for a week-long “leadership training” programme.

Reports indicated that the Local government chairmen in Adamawa state reportedly sponsored their wives for what was described as an empowerment programme.

Suleiman Toungo, chairman of Toungo local council and chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state,  confirmed the development in a viral media report.

He explained that the council chairmen embarked on their own training recently, arguing that their wives need similar exposure so they can offer useful advice to them on governance.

Toungo said: “We did our training two months ago, so I do not see anything wrong with our wives going for training outside the country.

“They are our wives and we need their advice. We are looking at the importance of training them on leadership, not the cost.”

Reacting, some Nigerians described the trip as wasteful in light of the recent financial autonomy granted to local governments.
