Nigerian Army Bids Emotional  Farewell  To Its Late  Mascot

The One Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna,  has held a solemn, but full military funeral for its fallen Mascot (Horse), late Sgt Dalet Akawala

A statement on Sunday January 26, 2025 by the Deputy Director Army Public Relations,  Musa Yahaya, informed that the loyal Mascot was buried on Saturday January 25, 2025 at the Headquarters of the Division in Kawo area, Kaduna .

The Masco served the Division for many years .

The regimental funeral ceremony, according to the statement,  was presided over by the Deputy Chief of Staff Administration, Col Akabuike, who represented the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 1 Mechanised Division, Major General Mayirenso Saraso.

In his remarks, the GOC emphasized the imperativeness of honouring the life and service of the deceased horse.

General Saraso described the Mascot as a part and parcel of the  rich cultural and traditional heritage of the Division.

“Late Sgt. Dalet Akawala served the Division with loyalty and dedication embodying the spirit of courage and resilience.

“The ceremony is our way of paying the last respect to a companion who brought pride and identity. to the Division”, the GOC stated.

General Saraso, therefore, extended his condolences to the entire Stallion family, and the Nigerian Army over the demise of Sgt Akawala.

The GOC, also, thanked all the dignitaries that found time to attend the  event while praying for a perfect replacement for the departed horse.
